The paper demonstrates the process of developing mathematical models for identifying breakdowns of electric motors using machine learning methods. The authors have developed three mathematical models for identifying breakdowns of electric drives with a power of 55 kW, 1500 rpm on the example of sugar production: model for quadratic discriminant analysis;binary classification decision tree;feedforward neural network model. The best structures and parameters of the models were determined by machine learning methods. The performance of the models on the training and test sets was more than 96% by F-score. It was proposed to use all three models independently for diagnosing breakdowns of electric drives, while the decision maker makes the final decision on the replacement or repair of electrical equipment. This approach is justified and effective because of the diversity of models. The developed models, except for assessing the state of the engine, can also be used for simulation modelling, forecasting, and serve as information support for process operators in organizing equipment maintenance. The availability of real-time information about the state of equipment in production will allow timely repair or replacement of equipment, thereby reducing the risks of stopping production and increasing the resource efficiency of technological processes. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper shows the process of developing a model of multistage evaporator station of a sugar factory based on a neural network. The neural network predicts the main performance indicators of the multistage evaporator station, such as the concentration of syrup at the output of the evaporator and the amount of evaporated water at the station. Unlike existing solutions, forecasting is performed in real time based on a set of indicators of the automation system (temperatures, flow rates, levels, pressure, density in the apparatus) and industrial laboratory (concentration of solids at the inlet to the evaporation station). The proposed neural network model has an MLP structure with 27 inputs, 2 outputs and one hidden layer with 20 neurons and predicts these indicators with an error of less than 5%. This allows to increase the informative support of the operator-technologist on the quality indicators of the enterprise without additional load on the industrial laboratory and without additional cost automatic quality devices, as well as to perform timely adjustment of the technological mode of the department. © 2022 IEEE.

Photovoltaic (PV) power plants are a form of renewable energy and their importance is increasing all around the world. In Brazil, the PV power plants connected to the grid are regulated through a credit compensation, in which the prosumer pays the difference between consumed and generated energy. Medium voltage consumers pay different prices for the energy consumed in peak load time and off-peak load time. This paper compares the return of investments of a PV plant without and with energy storage systems. This latter injects active power during peak load time. Results show that although the plant without storage presents lowest costs, the solution with batteries can be more profitable depending on the energy tariff and the equipment cost. © 2017 IEEE.

Optimization Algorithms, especially evolutionary algorithms, have gained wide acceptance among many disciplines such as electrical, control or industrial engineering. The ability to solve an objective or cost function with more unknown parameters than known equations, which make the problem unsolvable by means of deterministic approaches, is the main benefit of using evolutionary algorithms. In all cases optimization algorithms rely on starting with a completely random initial solution set then evolves this set towards better ones in respect to fitness or objective function iteratively. In this study, we have proven that starting from a unique point after a brief local and deterministic search instead of a pure random set is more beneficial in respect to fitness function evaluation count, or computation time. This approach, although it can be applied to any optimization algorithm, is a natural add-on to Big Bang - Big Crunch (BBBC) optimization method.

The increasing concern about climate change has been leading researches in many areas to investigate solutions for this issue. An emerging subject related to it is electric vehicles (EV). Although it is an important topic, there is still a lack of review papers about EVs modeling. In this context, this paper aims to bring a review about EV modeling to fulfill this gap. A wide bibliography review is made to cover different kinds of EVs modeling, in many aspects. As a conclusion, in some areas, authors do not diverge from each other, while in others may exist a large range of different ways to model the EVs. In this case, researchers should choose the modeling that fits the best for their research, which may vary in simplicity and computational effort. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents investigations of a transformerless half bridge sub-module (HBSM) modular multilevel converter based distribution static synchronous compensator (MMC D-STATCOM) performance in reactive power compensation considering the application of the modified ADRC controllers in the inner current loop and in the outer DC voltage loop using Synchronous Reference Frame control. Simulation results with the imposition of severe variations in reactive loads were obtained on a 5 km medium voltage feeder and will demonstrate that the modified ADRC controller enables superior performance for flexible operation with fast and efficient response of the MMC D-STATCOM in reactive power compensation. © 2023 IEEE.

In the time domain, on the basis of two-probe straightness error separation technology, this paper gives a new measurement measuring the flatness error based on the error separation technology-the two-probe flatness error separation measurement. It also gives the principle of the two-probe flatness error separation measurement, establishes the corresponding mathematical models, and carries on the simulation analysis and experiment testifying. Theoretical simulation and experimental result have proved the correctness and effectiveness of the separation principle (1) after analyzing the data with the two-probe error separation measurement, we can obtain the flatness of the panel measured as well as the straight error of the guiding rail.(2) when measuring with the two-probe measurement, the accumulation error of the initial position of the sensors is linear, so it can not influent the assessment of the error.(3) the two-probe error separation technology uses less one or two probes than the flatness error separation technology with the three or four probes does, so it need not consider installing several sensors on a plane and eliminates the problem made by the non-linear accumulation error of the initial position of the sensors. Therefore, the two-probe flatness error separation measurement this paper gives can make the flatness error separation technology more applied.

Smith Predictor is very sensitive to uncertain system with variable time-delay. Using dual-locus diagram method, we first analyse the essence of Smith Predictor's sensitivity and present a proposition to illustrate the system stability criteria with relation to system gain and time-delay variation. Then a new modified Smith Predictor is proposed to compensate the variable time-delay system with uncertain model for set-point tracking. After that, we discuss the system internal stability and give two-degree freedom controller self-adaptive to eliminate the impact of system uncertainty with varying time-delay. Examples show the improved performance compared to previous Modified Smith Predictor structures. © 2006 IEEE.

Many algorithms have been developed based on the Rapidly-exploring Random Tree (RRT). Among them, the Informed-RRT* stands out, because it aims to sample only a particular elliptical sub-region of the map to facilitate the optimal path convergence process. This way, it can find an optimal path in a shorter time by reducing the search area. However, this algorithm loses its benefits and acts similar to the the RRT* algorithm on multi-curve paths. In this study, we propose the n-Sliced Informed RRT*(nSIRRT*) to address this issue by dividing the reference path into a certain number of path segments and optimizing these segments one by one. Using this approximation, we addressed the convergence problem of Informed-RRT* in multi curved paths. Results showed that our method is more sample-efficient and converges the optimal trajectory faster than Informed-RRT* method. This method optimizes the path by focusing the sampling area around small segments on the path. Therefore generated trajectory converges optimal results faster.
