This paper presents a procedure to estimate a homogeneous equivalent resistivity for typical transmission line tower ground arrangements that are immersed in a stratified soil model. This technique is based on artificial neural network training due to a dataset developed in a numerical routine to compute grounding resistance. The results obtained from Levemberg-Marquadt algorithm and Bayesian regularization show good accuracy compared to the applied dataset and to the measurement data from a 230 kV transmission line, a practical case analyzed. We note medians lower than 5% and acceptable values of standard deviation for practical cases, which suggests that the proposed procedure can be used for real-world conditions.

The method of detection and localization of design errors in HDL-models of finite state machines with arbitrary output functions was proposed. The diagnostic experiment is carried out bypassing all arcs of the Mealy machine, starting from the initial vertex, including for machines of the "non-exclusive" class. To ensure the return of the machine with a possible design error in the initial state, it is suggested to use synchronizing sequences. Diagnostic experiments were performed in the Active-HDL design environment.

This work presents a practical evaluation of an Android app developed for grounding resistance estimation of typical transmission line (TL) towers arrangement. Such arrangements, composed by counterpoise cables, are evaluated for a two-layered soil model by a trained artificial neural network (ANN), which derives in a significative low computational cost for the solution problem. The developed algorithm is evaluated with measurements made in TL towers and compared to the solution provided by a rigorous numerical routine. The results indicate a good accuracy, with median and standard deviation lower than 7%, of the developed app for conditions where the input parameters have values within the range used to training ANN. Values outside the specified range can reach significative errors up to 5 and 17 times, respectively, for median and standard deviation.

In this paper, an adaptive controller is proposed for attitude and altitude control of a quadrotor. First, mathematical and dynamic models of a quadrotor are analyzed. Next, PID and LQR controllers are designed separately. This step is followed by application of hyperbolic tangent weight function to increase the overall performance by selecting the proper controller at proper time. Finally, all the three controllers' performances are observed in Matlab Simulink simulation environment. Simulations show that adaptive controller's overall performance is remarkably superior to that of a single PID or LQR controller.

Renewable energy management and conditioning system for distributed generation (DG) has been a promising research topic due to the advantages on efficiency, energy quality and environmental effects. Recently, it has been emerged as an efficient tool to meet the demand by residential loads. There have been presented numerous studies about the integration of DG units with hybrid configurations of energy storage systems and renewable sources to supply the domestic loads via single phase inverters. In this paper, a novel operation strategy of a single phase inverter for DG systems has been proposed. The essential point of the proposed strategy has been based on to generate a rectified sinusoidal waveform on DC bus contrary to the conventional methods. The proposed operation strategy has been tested on Matlab ® /Simulink environment and then it has been verified by an experimental study.
