In recent years many works related to the design of block-based transceivers have been published. The main target of this research activity is to optimize the use of the spectral resources in broadband transmissions. A possible way to address this problem is to reduce the amount of redundancy required by block transmissions to avoid interblock interference. An efficient solution is to employ zero-padding zero-jamming (ZP-ZJ) transceivers, which allow the transmission with reduced redundancy. ZP-ZJ systems have been successfully employed in the context of linear transceivers. This paper shows how the ZP-ZJ concept can be applied in decisionfeedback equalization. Some performance analyses based on the resulting mean-square error and error probability of symbols are included to show the possible degrading effects of the reduction in the amount of redundancy. Nevertheless, simulation results illustrate that data throughput and average mutual information between transmitted and estimated symbols can be enhanced significantly without affecting the system performance, for a certain level of signal-tonoise ratio at the receiver.

The Audio and Video Bridging (AVB) technology equips Ethernet with Real-Time characteristics, based on standards developed by IEEE 802.1. In 2011, the IEEE 802,1 AVB Task group completed the first generation of AVB Standards, and is currently starting standardization work on AVB Generation 2, aimed at Industrial automation & control networks, as well as Automotive networks. One aspect of this standardization effort is to adapt AVB stream reservation mechanisms to operate with industrial-standard fault tolerance technologies. This paper proposes a method to allow AVB to be used flexibly with different use-cases and different stream configuration mechanisms to achieve fault-tolerance. The method has been verified through simulation and has been proposed to the AVB task group for inclusion into the 2nd Generation AVB standards.

In this paper, two synthesis approaches are proposed to stabilize the fractional order chaotic Lu system. In the first approach, the equilibrium point of the system is stabilized locally while the second approach is based on the Lyapunov technique which guarantees global asymptotically stability of the origin. Simulation results demonstrate validity and effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

ring normal operations, response or quality variables of a process will follow a input-output relation that depend on certain key sensor variables. A soft-sensor with limited model size can be developed. When the process enters into a “faulty” state, the structure, of this model may change. Moreover, disturbance that is not reflected by sensor outputs may also be present. In this paper, we introduce a recursive soft-sensor modeling algorithm which employs a nonnegative garrote (NNG) variable selection procedure. This model can be used for both prediction, and detection of structural model change and the emergence of disturbance. The advantages of the proposed method were demonstrated by a simulation example and an industrial application to temperature prediction of a blast furnace hearth.

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms with multiple autonomous robots have received considerable attention in recent years. In general, SLAM algorithms use odometry information and measurements from exteroceptive sensors of robots. The accuracy of these measurements and the performance of the corresponding SLAM algorithm directly affect the overall success of the system. This paper presents comparative performance evaluations of three Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), Compressed Extended Kalman Filter (CEKF) and Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). Specifically, it focuses on their SLAM performances and processing time requirements. To show the effect of CPU power on the processing time of SLAM algorithms, two notebooks and a netbook with different specifications have been used. Comparative simulation results show that processing time requirements are consistent with the computational complexities of SLAM algorithms. The results we obtained are consistent with the CPU power tests of independent organizations and show that higher processing power decreases processing time accordingly. The results also show that CEKF is more suitable for outdoor SLAM applications where there are a lot of natural and artificial features.
