Falling film evaporators and condensers have demonstrated a good performance in air-conditioning and refrigeration. A study of falling film evaporation and condensation models is presented in this document. Two different evaporator models and a condenser model are being developed considering a trade-off between efficiency and accuracy. These models are based on classical Newton's viscosity law and Nusselt falling film theory. Two libraries, with evaporator and condenser components, compatible with Modelica. Fluid, Modelica. Thermal and Modelica. Media have been implemented. The presented simulations have the expected behaviour. These models will be used to complete a model of a heat pump.

It is shown how, for a given order of the transfer functions, CP is much more accurate at low frequencies than the continued fraction expansion (CFE). Current concerns about data privacy have lead to increased focus on data anonymization methods. Differential privacy is a new mechanism that offers formal guarantees about anonymization strength. The main challenge when using differential privacy consists in the difficulty in designing correct algorithms when operating on complex data types. One such data type is sequential data, which is used to model many actions like location or browsing history. We propose a new differential privacy algorithm for short sequence counting called Recursive Budget Allocation (RBA). We show that RBA leads to lower relative errors than current state of the art techniques. In addition, it can also be used to improve relative errors for generic differential privacy algorithms which operate on data trees.

Policy Optimization (PO) algorithms have been proven particularly suited to handle the high-dimensionality of real-world continuous control tasks. In this context, Trust Region Policy Optimization methods represent a popular approach to stabilize the policy updates. These usually rely on the Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence to limit the change in the policy. The Wasserstein distance represents a natural alternative, in place of the KL divergence, to define trust regions or to regularize the objective function. However, state-of-the-art works either resort to its approximations or do not provide an algorithm for continuous state-action spaces, reducing the applicability of the method. In this paper, we explore optimal transport discrepancies (which include the Wasserstein distance) to define trust regions, and we propose a novel algorithm - Optimal Transport Trust Region Policy Optimization (OT-TRPO) - for continuous state-action spaces. We circumvent the infinite-dimensional optimization problem for PO by providing a one-dimensional dual reformulation for which strong duality holds. We then analytically derive the optimal policy update given the solution of the dual problem. This way, we bypass the computation of optimal transport costs and of optimal transport maps, which we implicitly characterize by solving the dual formulation. Finally, we provide an experimental evaluation of our approach across various control tasks. Our results show that optimal transport discrepancies can offer an advantage over state-of-the-art approaches.

Deals with the use of object oriented technologies in the modeling of industrial plants that have to be remotely monitored and/or controlled. The main goal is to propose a design methodology for obtaining the model of the so-called Virtual Plant, that a remote and certified user will use to access the real plant for performing command actions and/or monitoring. The type of applications and systems targeted must have autonomous behavior and be interconnected and accessible. Reliability, maintainability and flexibility are also required goals, as well as a high rate of reusability of the applications. The methodology has been applied to the remote process monitoring and control of manufacturing processes. The Virtual Plant Model is, in fact, the part of the plant that can be accessed by a certified remote client and thus it can be constituted by a set of sub-models, as many as different types of clients. The Virtual Plant resides inside the Application Server who is responsible of communicating with the cell controller and sends the image of the actual plant state (the Virtual Plant) as required by the remote client (monitoring) or sends the client commands to the cell controller.
