The purpose of this paper is to determine the suitability of low-cost and low-power FPGA boards for acceleration, focused especially on cells classification in microscopy images. Our approach is based on simulation by means of using Matlab and Simulink. An implementation of the DCT is presented for the extraction of characteristics along with a classification Neural Network. Results show the execution time of the algorithms, their efficiency in terms of accuracy and the limitations of the hardware. The presented system is able to process 640x480 images in 0.53 seconds on average, with a total execution time of 5.04 seconds due to the transfer overhead. © 2017 Society for Modeling & Simulation International (SCS).

Three-dimensional Network-on-Chip systems are becoming popular because of reduced communication delay, heterogeneous integration of different technologies in a single chip, high yield, reduced latency, and less consumption of interconnect power. However, the addition of functional units in the Z-direction has resulted in higher on-chip temperature and appearance of hot spots on the die. Liquid channel cooling has emerged as an efficient and scalable solution for 3-D NoC. This paper proposed a placement strategy of liquid micro-channels in the chip using the genetic algorithm. The proposed liquid cooling approach is independent of any topology. By performing an extensive set of experiments, the result shows a substantial decrease in peak on-chip temperature. © 2017 Society for Modeling & Simulation International (SCS).

This paper aims to provide control strategies for distributed micro-storage energy systems at the residential level to contribute to smart grid goals. The operation of local Energy Storage Systems (ESS) at homes in a Smart Community with distributed generation based of renewable energies is analyzed by simulation. Each individual home receive the active and reactive power set-points from the Smart Community Energy Management System (SCEMS), acting as an aggregator of resources in the community according to the expected demand and production. Besides, in case the ESS has got available capacity, once the SCEMS requirements are satisfied, it is used to inject the harmonic current components demanded by the household circuitry. It allows a local improvement in the power quality of the demanded current, and so contributes to the global power quality consumption of the community. Simulation results showing the operation of the local ESS are presented to validate the proposed control strategies. © 2016 IEEE.

Power dissipation is a major issue with testing of designs having full scan architectures. The proposed scan technique minimizes toggle activity while scanning in test patterns. The method uses bit inversion technique to avoid toggles in scan flip-flops. The setup is dynamically configurable to one among the logic reversal structure and traditional scan while shift-in/shift-out of test patterns. Experimental results indicate that the average toggle activity is minimized substantially compared to California Scan architecture. It has features of full diagnosability of single stuck-at faults along the scan chain path.

computer based simulation technology remains one of the most popular approaches in the research field. It has the advantages with comparison to analytical methods for some applications. However, it requires implementing procedures devoted to the determination of developing simulation model's parameters in order to provide better performance and accuracy of the results. In the paper, the developed model of functioning process of the radiocommunication devices was briefly described. Parameters estimation of the model was performed and the smoothing and interpolation methods were chosen.

The way of thinking on Big Data, Open Data and their use by organizations or individuals has been a trending topic over the last few years. Big Data deals with collecting, storing, analyzing and putting data in value. Big, medium and small enterprises want to include information technologies in their management and decision processes. At the same time, movements about rights on public data have increased their presence and force. Data from governments must be open. Every day, more and more cities and countries are opening their data. Open Data has emerged as a new paradigm for the public service provision model with a special role in Smart City. The main goal of Big and Open Data in a Smart City is to develop systems which can be useful for citizens. In this work we analyze how both private enterprises and governments manage to improve their data value by combining private and public datasets and we give some examples of our work in this area. © 2015 IEEE.
