We consider the solution of a recurrent sub–problem within both constrained and unconstrained Nonlinear Programming: namely the minimization of a quadratic function subject to linear constraints. This problem appears in a number of LBM frameworks, and to some extent it reveals a close analogy with the solution of trust–region sub–problems. In particular, we refer to a structured quadratic problem where five linear inequality constraints are included. We show that our proposal retains an appreciable versatility, despite its particular structure, so that a number of different real instances may be reformulated following the pattern in our proposal. Moreover, we detail how to compute an exact global solution of our quadratic sub–problem, exploiting first order KKT conditions. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This study presents a dipper-throated-based ant colony optimization (DTACO) with the Seasonal Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average with eXogenous factor (SARIMAX) model (DTACO+SARIMAX) to forecast monkeypox cases. The work optimizes the SARIMAX model using grid search cross-validation and fine-tunes its hyperparameters using DTACO to improve prediction accuracy. The suggested model's consistency and accuracy are considerable compared to previous studies. Comparisons with state-of-the-art models validate the proposed model's predictions. DTACO+SARIMAX can be used to control disease and monitor monkeypox. Healthcare organizations and governments can better manage and track the pandemic's course by offering accurate predictions, reducing public panic, and enabling effective pandemic planning. The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests are conducted on the proposed DTACO-SARIMAX model and compared models.

This work incorporates an adaptive learning-based boosting (ADboost) ML classifier to classify four types of fuel: agricultural residue, coals, wood, and produced biomass. Further, the ADboost’s hyperparameters, such as learning rate, maximum number of splits, and minimum leaf size are adjusted using teaching learning-based optimization (TLBO), resulting in TADboost. The performance of TADboost is compared against various popular ML (NN, BAG, NB, and SVM) models. Simulated result reveals that the suggested classifiers outperform other compared ML classifiers for fuel classification with the classification accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and kappa as 0.9659, 0.9671, 0.9449, 0.9558, and 0.9482, respectively.

Magnetic-field simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) using consumer-grade inertial and magnetometer sensors offers a scalable, cost-effective solution for indoor localization. However, the rapid error accumulation in the inertial navigation process limits the feasible exploratory phases of these systems. Advances in magnetometer array processing have demonstrated that odometry information, i.e., displacement and rotation information, can be extracted from local magnetic field variations and used to create magnetic-field odometry-aided inertial navigation systems. The error growth rate of these systems is significantly lower than that of standalone inertial navigation systems. This study seeks an answer to whether a magnetic-field SLAM system fed with measurements from a magnetometer array can indirectly extract odometry information — without requiring algorithmic modifications — and thus sustain longer exploratory phases. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that such a system can extract odometry information and indirectly create a magnetic field odometry-aided inertial navigation system during the exploration phases. An electroencephalogram that was captured with electrodes placed can easily get contaminated with a variety of artifacts. Here is a comparative of various electroencephalogram (EEG) de-noising techniques. Three alternative techniques are used to eliminate five different kinds of noise, and also the outcomes are evaluated. These three methods are just the Least Mean Square (LMS) technique, the Connected Neural Network, and also the Recursive Least-square (RLS) adaptable algorithm (FCNN). Period charts of the actual EEG signal, the noise EEG signal, and thus the predicted EEG signal are used to display the results. RRMSE and signal-to-noise ratio were utilized to compare the effectiveness of the 3 de-noising strategies in this study. Investigating the model parameters in this case, we discover the FCNN forecasts a better outcome compared to the other two methods. © 2023 IEEE.

We implemented MDI-QKD with a novel polarization compensation scheme using discarded bits without reducing the key-sharing cycle or demanding additional resources. Polarization drift was maintained below 0.13 rad over a 40 km unisolated fibre spool for four hours, and the average secret key rate generated was 7.45×10-6bits per pulse. © 2023 The Author(s).

Humans have needs motivating their behavior according to intensity and context. However, we also create preferences associated with each action’s perceived pleasure, which is susceptible to changes over time. This makes decision-making more complex, requiring learning to balance needs and preferences according to the context. To understand how this process works and enable the development of robots with a motivational-based learning model, we computationally model a motivation theory proposed by Hull. In this model, the agent (an abstraction of a mobile robot) is motivated to keep itself in a state of homeostasis. We added hedonic dimensions to see how preferences affect decision-making, and we employed reinforcement learning to train our motivated-based agents. We run three agents with energy decay rates representing different metabolisms in two different environments to see the impact on their strategy, movement, and behavior. The results show that the agent learned better strategies in the environment that enables choices more adequate according to its metabolism. The use of pleasure in the motivational mechanism significantly impacted behavior learning, mainly for slow metabolism agents. When survival is at risk, the agent ignores pleasure and equilibrium, hinting at how to behave in harsh scenarios. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Recent innovations and developments in molecular biology and biotechnology have made it possible to acquire and store large omics datasets. In particular genomics, transcriptomics and the study of their relationship represent the key elements to understand how genotype influences phenotype. In this work we investigate the potential of multi-layer network modeling in integrating genomic and transcriptomic data of 152 advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with anti-PD-(L)1 therapy. For the transcriptomic layer, we performed differential expression and differential co-expression analyses in order to identify a subset of key genes in differentiating responder patients from non-responders. Adding to the genomic-transcriptomic model other three layers related to immune, myeloid and curated immunotherapy-based literature signatures we obtained a 5-layer Patient Similarity Network. The application of Similarity Network Fusion algorithm revealed a statistically significant stratification of patients (p-value ≤ 0.05) which allows the identification of two clusters characterized by patients responding and not responding to immunotherapy.
