Fiber optic sensors have been widely used in various biomedical applications due to their high sensitivity, reliability, and non-invasiveness. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to designing an optical sensor for detecting impurities in a mixture. The proposed sensor utilizes a flexible polymer layer and an optical fiber cable to detect variations in the power of the adulterated mixture. The polymer layer is made of PDMS, which swells or shrinks in response to the level of adulteration present in the mixture. As a result, the intensity of the output spectra changes, which can be used to detect impurities. The sensor's results will be compared with those obtained from the pure mixture to evaluate its accuracy. In conclusion, the proposed sensor has several advantages, such as low cost, easy to handle, ease of fabrication, and high sensitivity, making it a promising candidate for detecting impurities in various mixtures. © 2023 IEEE.

A car-like robot with an Ackermann steering system is a type of nonholonomic which is characterised by a set of first-order differential constraints on its configuration variables, which are not integrable. This distinctive characteristic gives rise to complex issues in the construction of feedback controllers. This research proposes reactive control using a feedback controller using PID algorithm for a car-like robot navigation. The proposed method controls the steering angle of the car-like robot to follow the prescribed path with a constant longitudinal robot velocity. The open-loop car-like dynamical system has been formulated in the form of state-space model. Two PID controllers in parallel computed the lateral position error and the yaw angle error. The summation of the two outputs from the PID controllers was inputted into the state-space model. The PID controller parameters were selected based on trial and error. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

Sealed capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) mostly consists of two parallel electrodes separated by a structural layer of silicon nitride (Si3N4) and a vacuum cavity. Biasing the transducer element generates electrostatic force of attraction where the lines in the field bulge at the boundaries of the layers contributing to fringing effects. These fringing capacitances result in overall increment of the device capacitance. To capture this effect a very simple model of Landau and Lifschitz is incorporated, where the analytical model outputs are well matched with commercially available PZFlex FEM simulated results. Because silicon carbide (SiC) has a higher Young's modulus and lower residual stress than Si3N4, it is used as a structural material in the CMUT. The improvement in device capacitance is approximately 13.1% through adjustments in the thickness of gaps and insulation. However, factoring in the relative dielectric constant and the electrode radius, this improvement reduces to around 7.9%. Additionally, introducing a high-k insulating layer enables the upper electrode to be structured on the lower face of the SiC layer. This modification leads to an augmentation in the device's total capacitance. This article also examines HfO2 materials of varied thicknesses. © 2024 IEEE.

This article explores how the Alpha-x framework can improve network robustness under Nakagami-m fading and co-channel interference (CI), The study evaluates network performance using key metrics such as outage probability, spectral efficiency, and capacity degradation. The simulations show a 50% reduction in outage probability, a 20% boost in spectral efficiency, and a 33.3% lower capacity degradation compared to traditional models. These results demonstrate how the Alpha-x framework enhances network performance by adapting to various fading conditions and interference levels in wireless communication systems. The framework not only improves reliability and efficiency but also shows practical relevance in network planning and management. This can potentially lead to better user experiences and increased operational resilience. Future research could focus on optimizing the underlying algorithms and testing their performance on a larger scale in real-world environments. As telecommunications systems evolve, frameworks like Alpha-x could play a crucial role in ensuring reliable and efficient wireless networks. © 2024 IEEE.

An advanced Fuzzy Logic controller (FLC) that considers all the states of the brain tumor system is designed for the chemotherapy treatment. A Mamdani-type FLC is proposed for dynamically controlling the chemotherapy drug for the tumor system;the chemotherapy treatment of brain tumors requires advanced strategies which mainly depend upon the severity of the tumor. In this work, the advanced FLC designed aims both at determining the amount of chemotherapy to eliminate tumor cells, and at preserving the minimum amount of healthy and immune cells. The controller's performance is verified using MATLAB software based on different control parameters, showing its effectiveness in reducing the tumor cells. It has shown favorable results in terms of steady-state error, rate of convergence, and amount of drug consumed. © 2023 IEEE.

Rice category identification by image analysis is essential to ensure the quality and safety of rice production. In this study, we propose an intellectual approach to improve rice category identification using deep transfer learning features and machine learning classifiers. Specifically, we extracted features from three pre-trained models (Inception V3, VGG-19 and VGG-16) using transfer learning techniques. These were used as inputs to train MultiLayerPerceptron (MLP) and support vector machine (SVM) classifiers. The results of our experiments show that the proposed strategic results achieve high accuracy in identifying rice categories. The SVM (polynomial kernel) achieves the second-highest accuracy among all models and features, with an accuracy of 0.9948 using the VGG-19 and 0.9912 using Inception V3. The MLP classifier with (30 30) hidden layers achieve the first high accuracy, with an accuracy of 0.9972 (99.72%) using VGG-19 features. The results also show that the choice of deep transfer learning model and machine learning (ML) classifier can significantly affect the accuracy of rice category identification. Among the three pretrained models, VGG-19 features consistently perform the best, followed by Inception V3 and VGG-16. The choice of MLP hidden layer size also affects the accuracy, with 30 HL neurons achieving the best performance. Our proposed approach using deep TL features and ML classifiers shows promising results in improving rice category identification. Our study provides valuable insights into optimizing ML models for agricultural image analysis. © (2024) International Association of Engineers. All rights reserved.

Multi-level, hybrid models and simulations, among other methods, are essential to enable predictions and hypothesis generation in systems biology research. However, the computational complexity of these models poses a bottleneck, limiting the applicability of methodologies relying on large number of simulations, such as the Optimization via Simulation (OvS) of complex biological processes. Meta-models based on approximate surrogate models simplify multi-level simulations, maintaining accuracy while reducing computational costs. Among Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks are well suited to handle sequential data, which often characterizes biological simulations. This paper presents an LSTM-based surrogate modeling approach for multi-level simulations of complex biological processes. Validation relies on the simulation of Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) administration to a 3T3 mouse fibroblasts tumor spheroid based on PhysiBoSS 2.0, a hybrid agent-based multi-level modeling framework. Results show that the proposed LSTM meta-model is accurate and fast compared with the simulator. In fact, it infers simulated behavior with an average relative error of 7.5%. Moreover, it is at least five orders of magnitude faster. Even considering the cost of training, this approach provides a faster, more accurate, and reusable surrogate of multi-scale simulations in computationally complex tasks, such as model-based OvS of biological processes. © 2024 IEEE.

The issue of low birth weight in infants is a significant concern in prenatal care, and it can have adverse effects on the newborn's health, sometimes leading to mortality. This problem contributes to high rates of child mortality worldwide. Artificial intelligence, particularly ML, offers potential solutions for predicting whether a fetus will be born small for its gestational age. Early detection of fetal developmental issues is critical, as timely intervention can increase gestation days and improve fetal weight at birth, reducing the risk of neonatal morbidity and mortality. This proposal aims to explore various machine learning methods for predicting small-for-gestational-age infants, emphasizing the importance of early detection and intervention to improve outcomes. © Grenze Scientific Society, 2023.

"ShopNest" is a mobile application which connects local customers to local retailers. Due to massive supermarkets most of the minute retail shops have taken a bad hit. This idea provides a great opportunity for small retail shops to increase their business and also a quick delivery saves time for customers. As we see, most parents and elder people depend on the caretaker of their family to get their essentials. So, the concept is to help the dependent, to reach out for their essentials. It was also observed that some people are emotionally connected with some specific shop(s) and people usually write down a list of their essentials on a piece of paper which has no use in online ordering. In this article a novel approach is proposed which provides the liberty to the people in the way they order, providing value to that piece of paper while placing the order and to connect people to their favorite shop(s) through the application and service and deliver the ordered products. © 2023 IEEE.
