In the industrial sectors, machines and sensors communicate with each other and with the control or central units through the Internet;this forms a network of Industrial devices called the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). IIoT is an emerging trend that generates big data which could be vulnerable to cyber-attacks. In the IIoT network, data and control instructions are usually flown through a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. We propose to install a Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) between SCADA and IIoT devices to monitor real-time network traffic and detect cyber-attacks. Several deep learning algorithms can be used on a large dataset for intrusion detection. In this paper, we implement and compare three deep learning algorithms, namely, MultiLayer Perceptron (MLP), Fully Connected Deep Neural Network (FCNN), and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), on two different datasets by varying the number of selected features for classifications using the XGBoost algorithm. The study shows that CNN with XGBoost is superior in its performance over other methods applied to NIDS. Our proposed methodology has proven to be effective regardless of the highly unbalanced dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks pose severe risks to large networks by disrupting services. Effective detection and response are crucial. Despite progress, current DDoS detection methods need improvement in adaptability and scalability to manage growing network traffic complexity. Existing models often fail to generalize across various network environments, protocols or attack types. This research introduces a hybrid model combining a Time Series Transformer (TST) with feature eng.neering to enhance DDoS detection and classification. Based on an experimental evaluation using the CICDDoS2019 and CICIoT2023 datasets, which encompass diverse DDoS attack types and network environments, the proposed model outperforms RNN, BiLSTM, and TransformerRNN models. The TST approach achieved an accuracy of 0.971 and an F-beta score of 0.701 on the CICDDoS2019 dataset, and an accuracy of 0.981 and an F-beta score of 0.952 on the CICIoT2023 dataset. We also compare the TST approach's performance across different network protocols for DDoS classification, analyzing the model's ability to detect attacks within various protocols, such as TCP, UDP, and ICMP. © 2024 IEEE.

Real-time systems are complex to design and implement. Various modelling and simulation techniques are employed to make this task more structured and efficient. However, there is often a disconnect between modeling for simulation and development for deployment. In this paper we discuss a technique to bridge this gap between simulation and deployment, specifically dealing with a framework to handle asynchronous inputs into a system developed using the Discrete Event System Specification. Further, this paper presents a case study that demonstrates the effectiveness of the framework, and the congruence between simulation and deployment of a real-time system is determined. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a distributed framework for simplifying smart pilot signal assignment in cellular massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) networks, aiming to reduce the complexity of pilot decontamination that comes with high cell count. The framework is based on the Triangular Lattice (TL) structure, tackling the problem of computing pilot assignments for the entire network by dividing it into 'molecules'. These molecules equate to lattice unit cells in a Triangular Lattice pattern for a network with hexagonal cell geometry. Molecules can constitute independent sub-problems by treating each one as a separate network, over which existing pilot assignment methods can be run. The resulting molecule pilot assignments can be efficiently merged to produce assignments for the entire network. In simulations, we show that the application of the TL framework to pilot assignment methods significantly reduces their computational overhead while preserving their efficacy, a trend which scales well with cell count. © 2024 IEEE.

We derive the likelihood functions and the maximum likelihood (ML) detectors for single-input double-output (SIDO) communication systems. The received signals are contaminated by a Gaussian noise and a non-Gaussian signal induced by the Gaussian transmissions of a proactive continuous single-antenna jammer over an unknown complex 2× 1 Gaussian vector channel. We consider cases in which either full channel distribution information (CDI), or partial CDI about the transmitter channel and the jammer channel is available at the receiver. The vector channels considered herein interweave the components of the received signal vector, rendering the derivation of the likelihood function a daunting task for more than two receive antennas. The interweaving of the received signal components prevents the optimal ML detector for unit-norm constellations from reducing to the corresponding Gaussian approximation based detector. This contrasts with the scalar channel case, wherein the two detectors are equivalent for unit-norm constellations. Simulation results show that the difference between the two detectors can be significant, especially when the transmitter and jammer channels have substantial line-of-sight components. © 2024 IEEE.

Nowadays Smart grids utilize digital controllers to guarantee the reliable and efficient operation of their components. However, the numerical simulation of these types of controllers is challeng.ng due to the numerous discrete time events introduced. The interpolation-based method (IBM) can effectively simulate smart digital controllers alongside the differential-algebraic equations of the system under control. Compared to the traditional step-reduction method (SRM) that reduces the time step for each time event during the simulation, IBM allows the use of variable time steps and solves the system while ensuring simulation accuracy. However, in the case of computationally demanding controllers, the computational performance of IBM suffers significantly. In this paper, a modified version of IBM is introduced, which can handle computationally demanding controllers in dynamic simulation of power systems. The performance of the proposed method is assessed and compared to SRM and IBM by simulating a test system with different controllers. © 2024 IEEE.

The practice of testing in modeling and simulation software development can be a very leng.hy and tedious process but is arguably one of the most important phases in the software development lifecycle. As the complexity of a simulation model increases, so does the amount of testing to thoroughly verify and validate and to achieve adequate quality assurance of the software. This paper introduces a testing framework that is used to assist in proving the validity of DEVS atomic models in the open-source simulation tool Cadmium. Furthermore, this framework utilizes the ChatGPT Application Programming Interface (API) to help lighten the workload involved in testing those DEVS atomic models. We show how to use the framework using the Cadmium simulator to show the effectiveness of the framework. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated Learning (FL) is a decentralized machine learning strategy that ensures training data stays on personal devices while also facilitating collaborative machine learning of complicated models among dispersed devices. FL is used to circumvent Mobile Edge Computing's constraints (MEC). In FL, mobile devices utilize their local data to train an ML model that is controlled by the Federated Learning server. The model changes, i.e. the model's weights, are subsequently sent to the FL server for collection. This stage is performed several times until the desired precision is obtained. Federated Learning has several issues, including communication costs, resource allocation, privacy, and security. The Federated Learning method is outlined in this work, and existing solutions to overcome its constraints are categorized and reviewed. Furthermore, there are several research directions and unanswered questions that must be addressed while considering a better method to Maximize Federated Learning Models in The Mobile Edge Computing Environment. © 2023 IEEE.

Visible body signals are utilised to communicate through gestures, which are effective and common non-verbal methods of communication. The identification of meaningful expressions of human body parts is known as gesture recognition. In our everyday lives, the use cases for gesture recognition have been expanding quickly. Dancing gesture recognition is the identification of significant expression in various dance stances. The expressive hand gestures known as Mudras are used in dancing as a visual language. Various bodily components are positioned expressively in these mudras. Also, it can be useful for self-evaluation and dancing e-learning. Since they are the most flexible and capable of conveying the most significance, human hands are employed in this work to identify the Mudras of the Bharatnatyam dance form. It is possible to teach a model to understand various dance motions and convert them into eng.ish. The Mudra image is taken, analysed, and converted to text after the pattern is detected. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are advantageous for picture representation and classification, according to recent study. As CNN is capable of understanding intricate, non-linear correlations between images, that is how this model was created. Train a TensorFlow model to recognise gestures as well. Even with a big dataset, the system maintains a high level of accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

This research introduces an automated road extraction model utilizing deep learning techniques for high-resolution aerial imagery. Focused on applications in urban planning, disaster management, and logistics, the study employs convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and a conditional Generative Adversarial Network (cGAN) architecture. The Massachusetts Roads Dataset, comprising 1171 images, is subject to advanced preprocessing techniques, including resizing, concatenation, and normalization. The proposed model features a carefully crafted generator with an encoder-decoder architecture and a modified Pix2pix-based cGAN for semantic segmentation. Inspired by the PatchGAN concept, the discriminator assesses image patches to distinguish real from generated images. A literature survey evaluates methodologies, emphasizing the Road Structure Refined CNN (RSRCNN), generative learning approaches, and the fully convolutional network (FCN) for road extraction. Performance analysis demonstrates the model's competitive IoU score compared to existing approaches along with accuracy, precision, recall and f1-score. A novel road extraction model using the Massachusetts Roads Dataset is introduced, highlighting WFuseNet architecture and advanced pre-processing techniques. © 2024 IEEE.
