We are currently witnessing the proliferation of blockchain environments to support a wide spectrum of corporate applications through the use of smart contracts. It is of no surprise that smart contract programming language technology constantly evolves to include not only specialized languages such as Solidity, but also general purpose languages such as GoLang and JavaScript. Furthermore, blockchain technology imposes unique challeng.s related to the monetary cost of deploying smart contracts, and handling roll-back issues when a smart contract fails. It is therefore evident that the complexity of systems involving smart contracts will only increase over time thus making the maintenance and evolution of such systems a very challeng.ng task. One solution to these problems is to approach the implementation and deployment of such systems in a disciplined and automated way. In this paper, we propose a model-driven approach where the structure and inter-dependencies of smart contract, as well as stakeholder objectives, are denoted by extended goal models which can then be transformed to yield Solidity code that conforms with those models. More specifically, we present first a Domain Specific Language (DSL) to denote extended goal models and second, a transformation process which allows for the Abstract Syntax Trees of such a DSL program to be transformed into Solidity smart contact source code. The transformation process ensures that the generated smart contract skeleton code yields a system that is conformant with the model, which serves as a specification of said system so that subsequent analysis, understanding, and maintenance will be easier to achieve. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) has developed as a prominent and intriguing topic in energy management recently. Even though a variety of NILM-based solutions have been proposed, a commercial-grade universal solution has not yet been established. Event detection and appliance identification algorithms have inherent critical limitations;therefore, this paper provides a novel real-time identification method aimed at being effective in NILM-based systems created for residential loads. Additionally, this work proposes an efficient event detection technique and a state identification method for multi-state appliances. A verification procedure allows for the correct identification of similar-featured appliances. The proposed algorithm identifies appliances with a high degree of accuracy by displaying their functioning condition in real-world conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

A real-time abnormal condition monitoring system for household appliances will help save energy, enhance safety, and extend the lifetime of appliances. Most solutions proposed in the past involve individual appliance-level monitoring and, thus, cannot be deployed directly on residential premises with a large number of appliances due to excessive cost and complexity. In this paper, we present a real-time abnormal condition detection mechanism that utilizes the principles of non-intrusive load monitoring to overcome the issues of existing work. A detection accuracy of 99 percent was achieved in experiments conducted with the generated custom dataset and two publicly available datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

The automated and reliable delineation of atherosclerotic carotid plaques in ultrasound (CUS) videos is of significant clinical relevance for management of the disease and the prediction of future stroke events. To facilitate stroke risk assessment, in this study, we propose an integrated software system for the automated segmentation and classification of atherosclerotic carotid plaques in longitudinal CUS videos, which was evaluated using 10 CUS videos, from 10 patients (5 Asymptomatic, AS, and 5 Symptomatic, SY). The proposed methodology involves the following steps: a) CUS video frame (VF) resolution and intensity normalization, b) speckle reduction filtering, c) Motion-mode state-based cardiac cycle (CC) identification, d) deep learning (DL)-based plaque segmentation, e) extraction and selection of plaque region of interest (ROI)-specific textural features, and f) machine learning (ML)-based plaque classification. Initially, one CC (cardiac diastole-systole-diastole) was selected per CUS video, and the CC's consecutive VFs were identified and reduced in number to exclude redundant VFs. All standardized VFs per patient were extracted, cropped and resized to mainly accommodate the ROI and were fed into a priorly trained and evaluated 2-dimensional DL plaque segmentation model. For each VF, the DL-based segmented plaque ROI was projected onto its primary resolution-normalized VF counterpart, from which textural and amplitude modulation-frequency modulation (AM-FM) plaque ROI features were extracted. Statistical analysis on the total AS and SY VFs was used for feature selection. We consider the problem of inferring the conditional independence graph (CIG) of high-dimensional Gaussian vectors from multi-attribute data. Most existing methods for graph estimation are based on single-attribute models where one associates a scalar random variable with each node. In multi-attribute graphical models, each node represents a random vector. In this paper we provide a unified theoretical analysis of multi-attribute graph learning using a penalized log-likelihood objective function. We consider both convex (sparse-group lasso) and non-convex (log-sum and SCAD group penalties) penalty/regularization functions. We establish sufficient conditions in a high-dimensional setting for consistency (convergence of the precision matrix to true value in the Frobenius norm), local convexity when using non-convex penalties, and graph recovery. We do not impose any incoherence or irrepresentability condition for our convergence results. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to the mobility of users and end devices, providing continuous service in Fog Computing (FC) is a difficult challeng.. With fog-assisted IoT healthcare frameworks, dealing with user mobility becomes even more complex because low latency in mobility support and fog node locating is a critical requirement. In this work, we offer a fog computing architecture with hand-over strategy that is tailored to user mobility and that reduces latency for location-sensitive operations and service stability with great data broadcast quality. In our design, it is no longer necessary to either complete a work or send it to the cloud;instead, it is necessary to connect with other FNs to continue with a request for a new job. This reduces average network delay by 30%-40% and increases end-to-end communication by 35%-45%. © 2023 IEEE.

Lung diseases are one of the most important areas in medicine that significantly impact individuals' quality of life. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate timing of these diseases are crucial. In recent years, with the advancement of technology and the utilization of deep learning methods and neural networks, the diagnosis of lung diseases is performed relatively quickly and accurately. Utilizing the best technologies and algorithms can be effective in diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases. Therefore, investigating, comparing, and selecting the best algorithms for the development and advancement of future work is essential. Advanced technologies in online software and web-based platforms, along with medical knowledge, play a significant role in enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases. This process not only aids lung health but also plays a fundamental role in prevention and treatment. This study introduces prominent and new architectures of machine and deep learning-based in lung disease diagnosis using radiographic images. It also examines the role of these architectures in increasing the accuracy, speed of lung disease diagnosis and presents advanced solutions for improving the process of lung disease diagnosis on the web. The obtained results suggest that deep learning methods perform significantly better than traditional feature-based classifiers. © 2024 IEEE.

For high transmission latency from users, cloud computing (CC) is not the best choice for processing latency sensitive applications that require real time response with minimal delay. To tolerate this issue, a new computing paradigm named fog computing (FC) was introduced to make cloud services closer to the user. It has been proposed to support real-time applications. Resource allocation and Task assignment are important issues for fog environment. Inefficient resource allocation causes poor performance for the system. Some tasks are constrained with a time limit called deadline. In case of real time applications, tasks need to be scheduled in the fog environment without violating its deadline. A new algorithm called Modified Deadline Aware Resource Allocation (MDARA) was proposed in this paper. Its aim is minimizing the completion time of applications, minimizing average response time, augment usage of resources under a constraint of deadline for enhancing the performance of fog environment. The proposed algorithm is compared with one of effective load balancing algorithms as Modified Round Robin algorithm (MRR) and compared with one of the recent algorithms like DRAM algorithm, which focuses on load balancing and resource utilization without taking into consideration the overall completion time and user-defined deadline of tasks. According to the results, the proposed algorithm outperformed both MRR and DRAM algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

Blindness is a prevalent disability with significant personal and societal consequences. While medical advancements offer treatment options, severe damage to the retina, optic nerve, or brain may remain untreated. Visual prostheses are implantable medical devices that aim at providing limited vision to such individuals. However, such prostheses offer low spatial resolution making activities like reading, facial recognition, and navigation challeng.ng. This work aims to enhance implantees' ability to recognize faces through real-time scene preprocessing, machine learning and computer vision techniques. Virtual-reality visual models simulating prosthetic vision were tested on normally/corrected sighted subjects, investigating the use of histogram equalization for contrast enhancement, facial region magnification, and caricaturing of facial features. Results revealed that histogram equalization with magnification increases facial recognition accuracy by 60%, distinguishability accuracy by 50%, and accuracy of seeing facial details by 90%. In contrast, adding facial caricaturing improved the accuracies by 66.66%, 25%, and 75% for recognizability, distinguishability, and seeing facial details, respectively. Consequently, the combination of visual field histogram equalization, face magnification, and optional caricaturing can be considered as a promising enhancement approach that could enhance the quality of vision perceived through visual prostheses. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents a regulated cascode (RGC) based trans-impedance amplifier (TIA) using an active feedback topology. The circuit topology of the proposed TIA improves the gain by applying a gain boosting amplifier to a local feedback section in our previously proposed TIA. The TIA was implemented using a 65-nm CMOS technology and consumes 24.5 mW with a supply voltage of 1.0 V. The proposed TIA had also 25 Gb/s data rate operation. © 2024 IEEE.
