Nylon6 nanocomposites (with2.0 wt% and 4.0 wt% nanoclay-montmorillonite) and two kinds of PC film with thickness of 0.125 mm and 0.175 mm combined varied ink formulas were used to investigate the effect of nanoclay quantity on ink washout of in mold decoration molding (square plate specimen with thickness of 2.0mm). It was found that Nylon6 nanocomposites with nanoclay quantity of 4.0wt% would increase 30% washout area than of 2.0wt% addition quantity. In addition, higher injection speed would increase shear stress leading to large ink washout area whereas higher melt temperature would decrease ink washout area.

Nylon6 and Nylon6 nanocomposites (addition of 2.0 wt% and 4.0 wt% Montmorillonite) were used as molding material for in mold decoration (IMD) molding (square plate specimen with thickness of 1.0mm). The Taguchi method with orthogonal arrays was used to determine important factors affecting ink washout in thin wall IMD molding. It was found that the significant contributing factors in the descending order were injection speed (29.30%), nanocomposites additives (21.62%) and film type (15.26%);moreover, higher melt temperature, higher mold temperature and lower injection would increase moldability for Nylon6 nanocomposites (4.0 wt%) combined with 0.125 mm thick PC film.

In this study, hot gas is utilized to achieve rapid mold surface heating. Different inlet sizes (4mm, 6mm, 8mm) at the mold entrance was designed. Mold surface temperature was raised to above glass transition temperature within few seconds' heating prior to injection then mold is closed for melt injection. Heating speed can be as high as 40 °C/s. Hot gas heating was does eliminate the fiber floating marks of molded parts and achieving high surface quality. It was found that the gas inlet size can affect the heating speed and heating uniformity.

In mold decoration (IMD) has attracted attention for industrial applications in recent years. In this paper, PC films with thickness of 0.125 mm and 0.175 mm combined varied ink formulas were be utilized and the effects of processing conditions on Nylon6 nanocomposites and Nylon6 molding were investigated. Related processing conditions include melt temperature, mold temperature, injection speed and packing pressure. It was found that high injection speed would increase shear stress leading to large printed ink will be washed out whereas high melt temperature would decrease shear stress. In addition, Nylon6 nanocomposites can reduce 50% washout region than the IMD Nylon6 molding.
