This paper presents a new in-flight alignment algorithm for an SDINS under large initial heading error. To handle large heading error a new attitude error model is introduced. The attitude errors are divided into heading error and leveling error using a newly defined horizontal frame. In this algorithm a Kalman filter with speed measurement is used. The simulation results show the heading error decreases very quickly from large value above 40deg to somewhat over lOdeg. © 2001 by Hyun Su Hong.

Fault monitoring and diagnostics are important to ensure reliability of electric motors. Efficient algorithms for fault detection improve reliability, yet development of cost-effective and reliable classifiers for diagnostics of equipment is challenging, in particular due to unavailability of well-balanced datasets, with signals from properly functioning equipment and those from faulty equipment. Thus, we propose to use a Bayesian neural network to detect and classify faults in electric motors, given its efficacy with imbalanced training data. The performance of the proposed network is demonstrated on real life signals, and a robustness analysis of the proposed solution is provided. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper we build on previous work exploring a formal way to assess the composition of learning groups. We start from our existing framework, designed to provide support to personalization in e-learning environments, comprising an implementation of the Vygotskij Theory of proximal development. In such theory, effective individual learning achievements can be only obtained within the boundaries of a cognitive zone where the learner can proceed without frustration, though with support from teacher and peers. In this endeavor, the individual development cannot disregard social-collaborative educational activities. Previously we gave operative definitions of the Zone of Proximal Development for both single learners and groups;here we aim at assessing the viability of a partition of students in groups over a common task. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

Cascaded Buck conversion system is a typical structure in dc distributed power system (DPS). It is known that, the interaction between its individually designed power modules/subsystems may cause the instability problem of the whole system. The traditional solution is to design this system by Middlebrook criterion. However, authors found that, even if the entire system meets Middlebrook criterion, the fast scale instability problem may still occurs. In order to analyse and solve this problem, this paper presents a fast scale model for the cascaded buck conversion system. By this model, the essential reason for fast scale intsability problem is explained and a phase-shifted-carrier (PSC) solution is also proposed. Finally a 48 V-24 V-5 V 200 W cascaded system is built, and the experimental results confirmed the theoretical analysis.1 © 2015 IEEE.

Programming Contests are a special branch in the general area of training and education programming support and cover an important role in the area of computer science. Rather than the direct provision of concepts and exercises related to programming, the main concern is on the algorithms and data structures managed while composing the solution to a problem, and the quality of the solution program itself. Training via web for programming contests is mainly comprised of the activity of producing solutions to problems offered by the online system (online training platforms), whereas a solution is a program, submitted by the student, and it has to be evaluated, in order to assess the programming performance, and give suggestions about the quality of the solution, so to make the experience an informative (learning) one. To the best of our knowledge, supporting a personalized approach and possibly recommendations given by the system, is a challenge. In this paper we tackle the problem of supporting students in their online training toward the participation in a programming contest, aiming at defining a framework that can allow recommendations, under the form of suggestions, to the learner, about the next programming problem to undertake, and that can foster motivation in students by means of a lightweight, badge-based, gamified approach. © 2018 IEEE.

Web Laboratories (WebLabs) are essential resources for engineering education. Within this type of laboratory, a new Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) package design model is shown in this work. The proposed model is based on a set of resources that form a complete educational structure;taking into account the sequencing and navigation among the elements that compose it. In addition, it can be uploaded to a Learning Management System (LMS), offering to the students an effective tool to work with web labs. The package is structured in 4 sections or pages: Introduction, Theory, Virtual/Remote Laboratory (VRL) and Assessment;where the last performs an automated verification of the work done by the learner. In this way, one of the advantage of this methodology is that the instant results of the assessments, performed by the SCORM package, is stored in the inner LMS. Some WebLabs performing this methodology are being developed in the University of Jaén. In this work, an example is developed: 'Modelling of Dynamic System: DC Motor'. This WebLab is used in the Industrial Automation course that is included in several Industrial engineering degrees. © 2014 IEEE.

Radiomics represents a specialized branch of medical imaging where quantitative features are extracted from images. Performing a classification using radiomics means solving two common problems: the imbalanced setting, and the large number of features that would increase the risk of overfitting. Moreover, since its main application and impact are in clinical field, there is the need of interpretable models for explaining their results. The aim of this study is to compare two modelling approaches: one based on a logistic regression model, known for its simplicity and interpretability, and RUSBoost, an ensemble method designed to handle class imbalance with potentially higher complexity, in order to answer the question whether higher complexity and lower interpretability are justified when dealing with radiomics data. Additionally, due to the large literature suggesting it, we analyze the impact of a feature selection step applied to these two classifiers. Test performances measured across 20 repeated splits on two datasets show how the RUSBoost approach is able to capture more detailed patterns of the data but this is highly dependent on the dataset at hand. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to the increasing complexity of industrial production systems, there exists a need for the development of efficient formal approaches for their analysis and control. Various methods have been proposed and examined from researchers, without being widely adopted for direct industrial use. in general, an industrial production line can be modelled as a Discrete Event System, but a more accurate representation would result, if we considered it as a real-time system. This paper presents a new mathematical abstraction for modelling real-time systems. in comparison with the conventional methods, the proposed method introduces new formulation parameters and handles variables in a different manner. It gives the opportunity to handle both discrete and real valued variables as inputs, outputs or both. A formal definition of the method is given and some examples of computations or runs of two typical examples are also presented. Copyright © 2005 IFAC.
