Similar to the shape description using Mexican Hat Wavelet functions we present in this paper the derivation of object descriptors using Haar Wavelets. The derivation is based on the continuous wavelet transformation of an angle function using the Haar function as mother wavelet. The angle function which represents a given object shape is derived from the extracted contour polygon by computing the angle differences between the angles at every position on the contour and the angle at the starting point. This angle function is periodical but with 2 offset and can be normalized in order to be independent of the object's size, it's position and orientation. The angle function depends only on the starting point on the given contour. Moreover, the used angle function doesn't include any singularity which might arise due to object rotations. The derived Wavelet descriptors were used in an agricultural application to recognize weed species. The paper presents in this context some derived results as well as possible solution for the problem of starting point.

At runtime, an embedded control system can switch between alternative functional modes. In each mode, the system operates by using a schedule and controllers that exploit the available computation and communication resources to optimize the control performance in the running mode. The number of modes is usually exponential in the number of control loops, which means that all controllers and schedules cannot be produced in affordable design-time and stored in memory. This paper addresses synthesis of multi-mode embedded control systems. Our contribution is a method that trades control quality with optimization time, and that efficiently selects the schedules and controllers to be synthesized and stored in memory. Copyright 2009 ACM.

As the voltage and current waveforms are deformed due to transient during faults, their pattern changes according to the type of fault. The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) can then be used for fault detection due to its distinguished behavior in pattern recognition. In order to minimize the structure and timing of the ANN, preprocessing of the voltage and current waveforms was done. The data delivered from a simulated power system using PSCAD (EMTP with cad system) was used for training and testing the ANN. An experimental setup, consists of a 3 phase power supply module and transmission line module, is utilized. A set of signal conditioning circuits is designed and implemented in order to transfer data to a PC which is used as an on-line relay for fault detection. This is done via a data acquisition card (CIO-DAS1602/12). The Matlab program captures and processes real data for training the ANN. Applying different types of faults for testing the system, right tripping action was taken and the type of fault was correctly identified. The suggested artificial neural network algorithm has been found simple and effective hence could be implemented in practical application.
