This paper presents a mobile robot aided self deploying wireless sensor network aiming to detect radiation leaks and to measure radiation levels, and explains design considerations to prolong network life. Special attention is given to the factors which are important for the specific requirements of radiation leak detection. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) provide numerous benefits to applications with low duty cycle, such as environmental monitoring, event detection, etc. However, the realization of these potential benefits directly depends on energy efficient and reliable communication and coordination capabilities of the deployed system. In this study, challenges of WSNs, deployment strategies using mobile robots, and energy harvesting techniques to maximize lifetime of WSNs are discussed. Also, a comparison of two different exploration strategies is shown with the results of our own application developed in C#. Main contributions of this study are discussions on mobile robot aided WSN deployment strategies and energy harvesting techniques to maximize WSN lifetime. © 2012 IEEE.

Simulations based on cognitively rich agents can become a very intensive computing task, especially when the simulated world represents a complex system. Those simulations can however benefit from optimizations coming from the way in which agents react to changes in the simulated environment. This paper presents an approach for improving the efficiency of the decision-making process of autonomous agents in a simulation. The optimization is reached by dynamically adapting the agent's perception to a bounded subset of all the agent's surrounding elements, which contains only the most important elements for the agent at the current time. In other words, the agent is modeled as having a dynamic focus of attention. © 2011 IEEE.

Modern universities, developing a digital environment, rely on a student-centric approach relevant to pedagogical and didactic practices. Personalization of the educational environment allows improving the quality of the educational process, raising it to a new level. This article presents the usage of multivariate modeling to identify common relationships and patterns between academic performance and psychometric characteristics. The study sample includes psychometric testing data of students from Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU), which determines cognitive, motivational and personal characteristics, and also data on their academic performance. The results obtained are further used for diagnostic and prognostic purposes to recommend educational content depending on the student's personality. © 2022 IEEE.

The paper presents a work in progress. Personalization of the educational environment allows improving the quality of the educational process, raising it to a new level. Our development is intended to diagnose and recommend educational content, depending on the students' personality. This article describes a system of ontological models (Learner Model, educational content model and cognitive functions model) designed to diagnose students' characteristics and the subsequent issuance of educational content, taking into account these characteristics. The learner model, implemented as a Protege ontology, is based not only on human professional experience but also on student testing results. This approach, based on the use of various IQ tests, allows reflecting in the ontology the dependencies identified due to linear regression methods, as well as other types of analysis. By this way we will reduce the dependence of the model on the human expert's personality and make it more objective. Using the Protege tools, we will combine three ontologies in the architecture of a personalized environment through rules and axioms. © 2022 IEEE.

The paper considers the possibility of improving the educational ecosystem by using ontologies in the architecture of the university electronic information environment. Various types of actors of the modern educational ecosystem, interacting within the educational process with educational resources, are presented;their needs that are relevant for its development shortly are analyzed. This paper describes a general approach to using ontology as an element of the IT architecture of a university. Formalizing objects of the educational process in the form of ontology (OWL, RDF models) allows creating various applications for its intellectual support, ensuring the uniformity of architectural solutions and further evolutionary development of the university information environment based on the IEEE LOM and TinCanAPI standards. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents the results of ongoing work. Today, personalization is one of the main trends in education. Universities collect and analyze data about the students' identity and their needs in order to develop specialized systems that support the personalization of the educational process. The purpose of the current work is to verify the applicability of the "Learner model"that was designed previously. This model is one of the main component of universities' intelligent learning system architecture. This model is based on the results of psychometric test. We increased the sample of students by including new observations and new predictors. Having performed preliminary data preparation, we obtained linear regression models. The results of psychometric tests were used as independent predictors (regressors). We tested students from the 2nd to 4th year of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics. The dependent variable is the general ECTS score, as well as the average score for the groups of disciplines (mathematical, work-oriented, humanitarian). We compared the resulting models with those obtained using a smaller sample. In general, our conclusion was confirmed. © 2022 IEEE.

Automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system is a main control process to keep the terminal voltage of generator in power systems between the determined values. In this study, the optimal tuning of a fractional order PID controller used in an AVR system is proposed by using the optimization technique called honey badger algorithm (HBA). The transient response analysis of the HBA-FOPID, HBA-PID, and HBA-PI controllers were obtained by using the integral time-weighted squared error (ITSE) as the objective function. Then, the performance of the HBA tuned FOPID controller was compared with the performances of other controllers. It has been demonstrated that the FOPID controller provides remarkable performance compared to other controllers in terms of overshoot and settling time of the AVR system. © 2022 IEEE.

Feedback narrowband active noise control (NANC, FBNANC) systems have been developed to suppress sinusoidal noise signals generated by rotating machines such as diesel engines, fans, etc. They do not require any reference sensor and can avoid the frequency mismatch and the acoustic feedback, as compared with the conventional feedforward NANC (FFNANC) systems. In this paper, a modified FBNANC system is proposed which contains three subsystems, namely: 1) a cascade pre-filtered and parallelly updated adaptive notch filter bank (CPANFB) that is included to synthesize the reference sinusoidal signals for the FBNANC controller, 2) an online secondary-path modeling (SPM, OSPM) subsystem that is introduced into the new system to track the secondary-path changes, and 3) a bandpass filter bank that is applied to the residual noise for separating the remaining sinusoids from other broadband noise components, with the former utilized to scale the auxiliary white Gaussian noise (AWGN) for the purpose of reducing its contribution to the residual noise. The three subsystems including the MPA (magnitude and phase adjuster) based controller are seamlessly integrated to work in harmony such that the whole FBNANC system enjoys nice advantages in both convergence and noise reduction performance (NRP). Extensive simulations are conducted to demonstrate and confirm the effectiveness of the proposed system. © ICA *** rights reserved

Feedback-based methods combining proportional-integral and/or resonant controllers are the most common option for Active Power Filter (APF) control. Alternatively to classical feedback-based control, state-feedback current control could be used, potentially enabling better dynamic performance. State-feedback current control has been previously proposed for grid-connected converters;however, reference tracking response of multiple harmonic components of the controlled current has not been reported. This is highly relevant to comply with grid codes. This paper analyses the design and implementation of state-feedback current control for harmonic current compensation in APFs. © 2024 IEEE.
