Fuzzy Matrix Game Perspective for Problems of Cooperation, Non-Cooperation, and Conflicts

In societal applications of systems science where competition under conflicting interests is pertinent to, the decision making faces situations in which one must decide whether to cooperate or not with a competitor or opponent. Each of the opponents (‘players’) has as well as carries own missions within the society out. At least two if not more parties need to make decisions under fully or partially conflicting objectives when involved in a dispute or open conflict. By and large decisions must be made under risk, uncertainty, and incomplete or fuzzy information implying large amounts of linguistic and probabilistic information. For cases of two opponents, the synergy of fuzzy control approach and matrix games seems rather effective to represent and find solutions for such multi-criteria conflicting situations. The fuzzy procedure is used to take into account some of the subjective attitudes of the decision makers that are difficult to model using classical game theory.

Nature is gorgeous for her imbalance. The innate bias from non-human to human results in a wonderful yet mysterious biological foundation towards the inspirational thinking for real application. The vision researchers evidenced that the left gaze bias in humans and non-humans. Nevertheless, the acousticians observed the right ear advantages in both non-humans and humans. Unlike the vision and acoustician researchers investigating the underlying mechanisms of human innate bias, we are more interested in mimicking these characteristics. In this paper, we propose two simple yet effective methods to generate the left eye gaze bias and the right ear advantage. We further discuss the potential applications, e.g., real life driving, from these inherent phenomena. We believe that this paper could bring an inspirational impact for future cognitive transportation, by implementing these human innate biases properly.

In this paper recent results on intelligent communication protocols (ICP) tailored for applications within flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) are presented. These have been derived on the grounds of the concept of ICP emulation by using the technique of object oriented modelling and emulation programming. The resulting ICP have been tested through their application in parallel simulation of complex medium size FMS. Developed models have been derived using three alternatives: math-analytical queue, adequate Petri-net, and appropriate object-oriented models. Some of simulations results obtained illustrate this novel development in ICPs for FMSs. Copyright ©2001 IFAC

Swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms are widely applied in industrial scheduling, mobile edge computing, etc due to their strong robustness and fast optimization speed. However, some real-world industrial optimization problems involve numerous decision variables, known as high-dimensional problems. Current algorithms often require considerable computational resources to evaluate objective function values because of high-dimensional decision spaces. Moreover, they are also prone to be trapped in local optima. To solve the above problems, this work proposes an improved algorithm named Surrogate-assisted Multi-class Collaborative Teaching and learning optimizer (SMCT). A multi-class collaborative teaching and learning optimizer is proposed as a base optimizer to improve exploration and exploitation abilities. Furthermore, an autoencoder-assisted radial basis function is proposed as the surrogate model to replace true function evaluations, thereby saving computational resources and balancing the complexity and accuracy in fitting true models. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that SMCT surpasses its existing peers in both search accuracy and convergence speed across eight high-dimensional benchmark functions.

Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) is a data-driven algorithm that offers a promising approach for robust control design. This paper investigates the effectiveness of first-order and second-order ADRC for 3D cranes. To compare the results fairly and reduce the heuristics in parameter tuning, the ADRC parameters were optimally computed via the African Vultures Optimization Algorithm. Both controllers based on ADRC are validated using experiments on a 3D crane laboratory system and their design and performance evaluation are done by minimizing the sum of squared errors. The results demonstrate the robustness of the ADRCs. This comparative analysis highlights the advantages and limitations of both control strategies, providing valuable insights for selecting the appropriate ADRC order for specific applications. © 2024 The Authors.

Using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to generate synthetic Electronic Health Records (EHR) has attracted increasing attention. However, in existing approaches, the events in EHRs are treated as separate variables which are indiscriminately entered into the model, without taking into account the meaning and grouping of them. Besides, the efficacy of treatment is often neglected. In this paper, we first embed the efficacy information into the disease diagnosis, and then propose Grouped Correlational GAN (GcGAN) to explicitly learn inherent correlations between different groups of variables. We also introduce a dense connection to strengthen the generator capacity in GcGAN. Experimental results on real-world data demonstrate that the generated data from GcGAN are able to simulate real-world data in terms of distribution statistics. The results on multi-label treatment recommendation tasks show that GcGAN can boost the performances by augmenting the training dataset with the generated data and outperforms state-of-the-art approaches. It can also automatically distinguish between disease-specific drugs and adjuvant drugs, which enhances the model interpretability.

In this work, a 'qualitative reasoning' (common-sense reasoning) approach to the synthesis of dexterous manipulative synergies for articulated robot hands is provided. An intelligent planner has been developed in order to perform this synthesis. The synthesis is performed in the following step-wise manner viz., (i) determination of a desired displacement of an object, given an initial and final configuration and (ii) determination of the corresponding displacements of the fingers, that induces the desired object displacements. The determination of a desired object displacement, is the main subject of this paper. A 'qualitative' formulation of object motion, and an algorithm to determine the sequence of motions necessary to change an arbitrary initial configuration of the object, to a desired final configuration, are provided. The details regarding the implementation of this algorithm and the future implications of this work are highlighted.< >
