With growing interdependence among various energy forms, such as electricity, heat, and cooling, multi-energy system (MES) is playing an increasingly important role. As a focal point in MES, energy hub (EH) needs to be properly planned for increased efficiency of energy utilization. This paper presents a generic mixed-integer linear model for EH planning to minimize the overall investment and operation cost given the demand and price of each energy. Our approach uses a graph with multiple rows and layers to represent the energy conversion topology in an EH. In this work, we formulate the EH optimal planning problem with a single combined model to implement the following two steps: 1) optimize the device investments represented in system topology graph; 2) manage the energy conversion and flow to meet the end-use demands meanwhile minimizing the cost. The numerical study shows the efficacy of our proposed model.

The goal of this paper is to create a Voice Activated Braille as a portable device that will help individuals who are blind or visually impaired without any partial help to recognize certain written characters. This is a system controlled by Arduino that will be able to direct blind people. The system acts mostly as a guide for the blind, a particular virtual environment for the visually disadvantaged, making them similarly optimistic to the rest of the world's regular citizens. Blind people will benefit from these innovative braille methods to tackle the challenge of information technology around the world. This system is compact and will keep blind people from partial assistance and can also help them read something without any help. Thus, the daily inconvenience of blind individuals can be significantly decreased and they can enjoy a certain level of freedom and activity. © 2021 IEEE.

The anticipated massive penetration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) will significantly impact the operation of electric power systems. The effect will be more prominent on low-inertia, isolated, power systems. Modern grid code requirements can be used to ensure that RES will remain connected to the system during abnormal or transient operating conditions and provide support. In this paper, the Cyprus transmission system is used to evaluate the impact of primary frequency support (PFS) from Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs), both during low- and high-loading conditions. A sensitivity analysis of the major parameters of PFS has been performed to evaluate their impact on the frequency response in low inertia conditions. It is demonstrated that PFS provided by IBRs during low loading conditions positively affects the power system frequency stability without any additional curtailments. During high-loading conditions, PFS from RES also improves the system performance, however, significant RES curtailments from the IBGs participating in PFS are required which may raise fairness concerns.

The report presents a low-cost and flexible solution to control and monitor home and industrial appliances. The popularity of automation devices has increased greatly in recent years due to higher affordability and simplicity through IoT phone and tablet connectivity. For this purpose, we have developed the IoT Outlet: a stand-alone communication unit, used to connect outlets to the internet. The IoT Plug is a power switch which can be accessed via Wi-Fi connection. Users can plug devices into the IoT Plug to remotely switch power on/off, get information of device's power consumption and local motion status, using wireless commands from the web and Android application. To access IoT Plug, it is connected with a router in Wi-Fi access point mode and control the Plug. An Android-based IoT phone application and Website having the control panels, employs standard operations such as Get and Post requests that return responses to communicate between the remote user and the Plug using PHP MySQL Databases. The main purpose of the paper is for IoT application to control and save power by setting the time scheduling through the controlling interface. Through this IoT device we can control and get feedback from any plugged device. There is a lot of need on large scale industries, laboratories, military fields and real-life situation, where one wants to know the status of the electric operated devices. This project is the building block for the application such as wireless controlling of any appliance that can be plugged in with local voltages i.e. 220V. © 2022 IEEE.

With increasing penetrations of renewable energy in power distribution systems, operators is facing challenges on reducing renewable energy curtailment, which is caused by supply-demand mismatch, feeder congestion, and nodal voltage limits. Converting surplus renewable electricity into hydrogen by electrolyzors has been recognized a potential way to address this. To this end, we proposed a coordinated operation approach for hydrogen and power distribution systems, considering distribution level power and hydrogen pipeline flows, as well as storage capabilities provided by linepack. The proposed approach can be used to investigate the benefits from our coordinated approach on the basis of current separated practice. Our numerical simulations show that the proposed coordinated dispatch model can utilize the benefit of renewable power to minimum the total cost and improve the utilization of transmission lines.

Driver fatigue, manifesting as drowsiness and loss of concentration, poses a significant risk to road safety. We present a novel real-time approach for detecting driver fatigue by combining feature recognition, head pose estimation, and eye gaze tracking. Utilizing 3D landmarks from the MediaPipe framework, our method provides a comprehensive assessment of driver alertness in both real-world and controlled environments. Our system leverages the YOLOv5 algorithm for feature recognition to extract crucial driver cues and employs advanced 3D facial landmarks from MediaPipe for precise head and eye position estimation. This multimodal approach effectively evaluates driver concentration and alertness, focusing on critical fatigue indicators such as drowsiness and yawning. The face mesh, with 468 facial landmarks, calculates head position, eye position, and blink patterns to accurately identify signs of sleepiness. A total of 17 subjects participated in the data collection, driving the car under various lighting conditions and 13 subjects for in lab data collection under different lighting conditions. This diverse dataset was instrumental in training and testing the model, ensuring its robustness and adaptability to real-world scenarios. By integrating these techniques, our approach offers robust detection of driver fatigue and concentration levels, enhancing road safety.

A New Challenging Curve Fitting Benchmark Test Set for Global Optimization

Benchmark sets are extremely important for evaluating and developing global optimization algorithms and related solvers. A new test set named PCC benchmark is proposed especially for optimization problems of nonlinear curve fitting for the first time, with the aspiration of helping developers to investigate and compare the performance of different global optimization solvers, as well as more effective optimization algorithms could be developed. Compared with the well-known classical nonlinear curve fitting benchmark set given by the National Institute of Standards and technology (NIST) of USA, the most distinguishable features of the PCC benchmark are small problem dimensions, unconstrained with free search domain and high level of difficulty for obtaining global optimization solutions, which make the PCC benchmark be not only suitable for validating the effectiveness of different global optimization algorithms, but also more ideal for verifying and comparing various related solvers. Seven of the world's leading global optimization solvers, including Baron, Antigone, Couenne, Lingo, Scip, Matlab-GA and 1stOpt, are employed to test NIST and PCC benchmark thoroughly in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency. The results showed that the NIST benchmark is relatively simple and not suitable for global optimization testing, meanwhile the PCC benchmark is a unique, challenging and effective test dataset for global optimization. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Due to its speed, safety, and affordability, ultrasound imaging is preferred in medical diagnosis; nonetheless, speckle noise and limited scan lines cause detail loss. Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) enhances tissue perfusion and tumor detection using microbubbles but is prone to motion artifacts, particularly in dynamic settings like Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (DCE-US), where patient or probe movement degrades image quality. Motion artifacts in traditional DCE-US are usually corrected by removing the affected frames, which leads to a loss of useful data. To maintain image integrity and improve clinical analysis, recent advances have concentrated on motion correction algorithms. Using quantitative metrics like Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Correlation Coefficient (CC), and qualitative assessment through visual inspection of Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP), this paper assesses three such algorithms: Block Matching Algorithm, Sub Pixel Registration, and 2-Tier image registration. The objective is to determine the most efficient technique for reducing motion artifacts and enhancing both qualitative and quantitative analyses in medical imaging.

Phishing attacks pose significant threats by mimicking legitimate websites to steal user credentials. To address this, the study explores novel techniques for detecting phishing websites, focusing on evasion attacks that exploit vulnerabilities in existing classifiers. This research proposes a method combining URL feature extraction and machine learning classification to enhance phishing detection. The methodology includes crafting adversarial samples to test classifier robustness and evaluating phishing website appearance via image alteration metrics like mean squared error. The study utilizes the Phish Tank and Alex Data datasets, applying various classifiers with Logistic Deterioration, SVM, KNN, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and a Voting Classifier (Bagging with RF + DT). The Voting Classifier achieved accuracies of 96% and 85% on the Phish Tank and Alex Data datasets, respectively. Additionally, a Flask-based front end with user authentication will be developed for practical user testing. This research introduces a significant advancement in phishing detection and defense mechanisms.

Since the cloud users are expanding, their voluminous amount of data, along with their demands, are also growing alarmingly. To tackle these rising demands, Cloud computing has been evolved as cutting-edge technology. Cloud computing felicitates an efficient task scheduling mechanism that can schedule the cloud requests on the most compatible heterogeneous virtual machines. Since the involvement of various scheduling parameters, task scheduling algorithms fall under an NP-hard problem. Therefore, a metaheuristic approach is implemented in this work to mitigate the aforementioned challenges. In this regard, this work proposes a nature-inspired improved variant of the JAYA (IJAYA) optimization algorithm for scheduling tasks on heterogeneous resources. A binary IJAYA is adopted in order to convert the continuous values into discrete values. The CloudSim is used as a simulation tool to conduct the experiments. To assess the effectiveness of the algorithm, a real-world dataset is taken into consideration. The proposed algorithm is compared over Bird Swarm Optimization (BSO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA), and the standard JAYA for gauging the performance. The simulation results depict notable improvements for makespan, degree of imbalance (DOI), response time and resource utilization over other compared algorithms. © 2021 IEEE.
