In swarm robotics, research mainly follows a theoretical approach that considers robot systems in the abstract, where the complexity and capabilities of the underlying model are often reduced to their minimum. One general and well-investigated model is OBLOT, where the robots are silent, anonymous, and oblivious. In this work, we introduce MOBLOT, a model that extends OBLOT to address a larger spectrum of cases. MOBLOT stands for molecular oblivious robots: like atoms combine themselves to form molecules, in MOBLOT simple robots can move to form more complex computational units, having an extent and different capabilities with respect to robots;like molecules combine themselves to form the matter, in MOBLOT the complex structures can exploit their own capabilities to arrange themselves to form any shape defining an acceptable final structure. In MOBLOT, we formally define the Matter Formation (MF) problem and, as a preliminary general result, we provide a necessary condition for its solvability which relies on symmetricity. Informally, the symmetricity of a configuration measures the amount of symmetries of the robots' disposal. We actually show how dealing with molecules can resolve in some cases the symmetry breaking issue where OBLOT cannot. Finally, we provide a case study for MOBLOT, that is, a representative MF problem along with a resolution distributed algorithm. © 2021 International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems (***). Nowadays, there is a global need for energy management to reduce cost, planet damage and dependence on fossil fuels to save energy. In this paper, we suggest an efficient Energy Management System (EMS) with an emphasis on Demand Response (DR), the planning of generation units in the grid and exchanges between the grid and the upstream network, with the aim of reducing the Market Clearing Price (MCP), Emission Reduction (ER) and consequently reductions of Tax on Carbon (ToC). In the proposed problem, technical and economic constraints include any producer/consumer equipment, as well as the DR, ER, ToC, MCP and grid connection requirements to the main upstream network. To find the best possible solution, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) methodology is applied. The obtained results showed a noticeable decrease in MCP and ER by 37% and 55%, respectively. © 2020 IEEE.

In this paper, we examine the strength of deep learning technique for diagnosing lung cancer on medical image analysis problem. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) models become popular among the pattern recognition and computer vision research area because of their promising outcome on generating high-level image representations. We propose a new deep learning architecture for learning high-level image representation to achieve high classification accuracy with low variance in medical image binary classification tasks. We aim to learn discriminant compact features at beginning of our deep convolutional neural network. We evaluate our model on Kaggle Data Science Bowl 2017 (KDSB17) data set, and compare it with some related works proposed in the Kaggle competition. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Before releasing an anonymized data set, the data protector must know how safe the data set is, that is, how much disclosure risk is incurred by the release. If no privacy model is used to select specific privacy guarantees prior to anonymization, posterior disclosure risk assessment must be performed based on the anonymized data set and, if the result is not satisfactory, anonymization must be repeated with stricter privacy parameters. Even if a privacy model is used, it may still be advisable to empirically evaluate disclosure on the anonymized data set, especially if the privacy model parameters have been relaxed to improve data utility. Record linkage is a general methodology to posterior disclosure risk assessment, whereby the data protector attempts to recreate the attacker's re-identification scenario. An important limitation of record linkage is that it usually requires the data protector to make restrictive assumptions on the attacker's background knowledge. To overcome this limitation, we present a maximum-knowledge attacker model and then we specify and compare several record linkage tests for such a worst-case attacker. Our tests are based on comparing the distribution of linkage distances between the original and the anonymized data set with the distribution of distances between one of the two previous data sets and one random data set. The more similar the distributions, the more plausibly deniable are record linkages claimed by an attacker. Because attaining zero disclosure risk for all records is too costly in terms of utility, a less demanding alternative is presented whose goal is to reduce the maximum per-record disclosure risk.

Mobile devices are now very popular in many applications, and there is a trend to use them in statistic surveys. The main technical issue is privacy assurance. In this paper, we propose a certification-based approach for privacy assurance in multiple transactions of a survey conducted by a third-party application (TPA), which wants to find the maximal values of private data of some member groups in a social society. In our proposal, the computation burden on an involved user to verify the privacy assurance does not increase with the number of users participating in the survey. Furthermore, similar to traditional surveys, the users only need to communicate with the TPA. These features distinguish our approach from the existing research in literature for secure multi-party computation.

One of the fundamental elements in order to implement context aware scenarios to enable the deployment of Smart Health is the use of wireless transceivers. Modern wireless systems make use of high order modulation schemes in order to increase spectral efficiency dynamically, leading to interference dependent coverage-capacity relations. In this work, performance of wireless sensor network nodes deployed in an Emergency Room complex will be analyzed in terms of topological dependence and the influence to non-desired interference sources. The results provide estimations in order to adequately deploy multi-system wireless systems in order to increase the system capacity and to reduce the overall interference levels.

Data mining techniques can be applied in the area of Software engineering for getting improved results. Medical data mining has great potential for exploring the hidden patterns in medical data and these patterns can be utilized for clinical diagnosis. Analysis of medical data is often concerned with the treatment of incomplete knowledge, with management of inconsistent pieces of information. In the present study, the theory of Rough set is applied to find dependence relationship among data, evaluate the importance of attributes, discover the patterns of data, learn common decision-making rules, reduce the redundancies and seek the minimum subset of attributes so as to attain satisfactory classification. It is concluded that the decision rules with and without reducts) generated by the rough set induction algorithms (Exhaustive, Covering, LEM2 and GA) not only provide new medical insight but also are useful for medical experts to analyze the problem effectively and find optimal cost. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Microarray is a technology which allows biologists to potentially monitor the activity of all the genes of an organism. Microarrays, widely recognized as the next revolution in molecular biology, enables scientists to analyze genes, proteins and other biological molecules on a genomic scale. Image processing is the first step in knowledge discovery from the microarray. The process of extracting features consists of three stages: gridding, segmentation and quantification. Gridding is to assign each spot with individual coordinates. This paper presents a fully automatic grid configuration algorithm for detecting the microarray image spots as input, and makes no assumptions about the size of the spots, and number of rows and columns in the grid. The approach is based on the detection of an optimum sub image. This method is capable of processing the image automatically and does not demand any input parameters. Experimental result shows that this method is highly efficient method of gridding that uses intensity projection profile. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
