Quantum Image Representation is a well-studied area in quantum informatics. The first proposed algorithm was the qubit lattice method introduced in 2003. This method was not harnessing the full potential of the quantum system - using as many qubits as there were pixels in the image. The most commonly used methods right now are Flexible Representation of Quantum Images (FRQI) proposed in 2011, and Novel Enhanced Quantum Representation (NEQR) proposed in 2013, which uses superposition to encode a monochrome image on a quantum computer using a reduced number of qubits. In this paper, we want to compare these two methods, alongside Local Phase Image Quantum Encoding (LPIQE) method proposed in 2020, to see which method produces images with minimal data loss. Another comparison will be done with image encoded using the LPIQE method with Phase Distortion Unraveling (PDU) error mitigation method, which is done entirely on a classical computer. LPIQE implementation was intended for using the photonic quantum system since the phase-shift is easy to produce, and it will be implemented on real, photonic quantum computers after further development. © 2023 The Authors. The paper presents the results of the study of the process of porous materials impregnation from the point of view of percolation theory. Diffusion front, diffusion front shell, percolation cluster are determined using developed application. Processing of digital images obtained during the study of the porous object impregnation is used. This allowed obtaining the necessary quantitative characteristics of the diffusion front, percolation clusters and percolation shell. Quantitative characteristics were analyzed and kinetic curves of the impregnation process were constructed on the example of leather tanning process. As a result, the main stages of the impregnation process of the tanning composition: accumulation, percolation and distribution have been revealed. The methodology of the impregnation process study and the method of its visualization have been developed and applied to the processes of leather tanning. The universality of this development will allow applying them to the study processes in other porous materials, and in modeling and creation of new materials. © 2024 IEEE.

Deep learning as a tool for quantum error reduction in quantum image processing

Despite the limited availability and quantum volume of quantum computers, quantum image representation is a widely researched area. Currently developed methods use quantum entanglement to encode information about pixel positions. These methods range from using the angle parameter of the rotation gate (e.g., the Flexible Representation of Quantum Images, FRQI), sequences of qubits (e.g., Novel Enhanced Quantum Representation, NEQR), or the angle parameter of the phase shift gates (e.g., Local Phase Image Quantum Encoding, LPIQE) for storing color information. All these methods are significantly affected by decoherence and other forms of quantum noise, which is an inseparable part of quantum computing in the noisy intermediate-scale quantum era. These phenomena can highly influence the measurements and result in extracted images that are visually dissimilar to the originals. Because this process is at its foundation quantum, the computational reversal of this process is possible. There are many methods for error correction, mitigation, and reduction, but all of them use quantum computer time or additional qubits to achieve the desired result. We report the successful use of a generative adversarial network trained for image-to-image translation, in conjunction with Phase Distortion Unraveling error reduction method, for reducing overall error in images encoded using LPIQE. © 2023, CC BY.

The paper proposes to change the bit-dept. of the original data sequence as a preprocessing of the measuring data, which is carried out before the compression procedure. In this case the digit capacity conversion is performed without accounting for the primary data sample boundaries. The simulation was carried out in the Matlab software environment. The findings of the authors' research are presented. They prove to be a promising approach for some types of the studied data at least and several digit capacity values. The analysis of autocorrelation function values showing the data correlation revealed by the conversion is used as an assessment of perspective of the active conversion. In this article the authors review the values of secondary maximums of autocorrelation function. Their occurrence shows the demonstration of the implied correlative correspondence. Such correlations can potentially allow the converted data to be compressed more effectively than the original data using the known compression methods. © 2022 IEEE.

In the presented paper, detailed schematics and descriptions concerning communication in the context of swarm drone control are introduced. Methods and technologies behind them are discussed. The implementation of the presented concept was verified through a series of tests. Simulation results which confirm the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed solutions are presented. The obtained results prove the correctness implementation of the presented methods and also demonstrate the benefits derived from the proposed approach. The presented concept of controlling a swarm of drones represents the current state of knowledge and technology in the field of drones and their control. By utilizing advanced communication technologies, positioning, and analysis of communication structures, this work makes a significant contribution to the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) field. © 2023 IEEE.

Simulation of indoor airflow in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system in construction design is critical in order to control spread of volatile organic compounds (VOC) or germs and viruses in the case of a pandemic, as we witnessed during 2019-2021. This paper presents the findings from comparing two types of fluid simulations: grid-based and particle-based methods. The former is widely used for scientific computation due to its precision;however, it is time consuming and requires designers to do pretreatment of the building model for airflow simulations in construction design using grid-based methods. The particle-based method is used in visual effects, games, and other applications requiring real-time simulation. This paper presents a review of the literature on different methods of fluid simulation like finite volume method (FVM), smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH), position-based dynamics (PBD), and provides a comparison of heat transfer between particle-based and grid-based methods in indoor airflow simulations with HVAC system. © 2021 Computing in Civil Engineering 2021 - Selected Papers from the ASCE International Conference on Computing in Civil Engineering 2021. We consider minimal-perimeter lattice animals, providing a set of conditions which are sufficient for a lattice to have the property that inflating all minimal-perimeter animals of a certain size yields (without repetitions) all minimal-perimeter animals of a new, larger size. We demonstrate this result on the two-dimensional square and hexagonal lattices. In addition, we characterize the sizes of minimal-perimeter animals on these lattices that are not created by inflating members of another set of minimal-perimeter animals. © 2022, CC BY.

It is a time-consuming task for the instructors to design the examples, assignments, and projects to meet the requirement of learning outcomes. Luckily, most of the courses in information technology major are relevant and some are closely related to each other. Therefore, we propose to take advantage of the same problem which can be analyzed from different aspects under a series of IT courses. It will not only reduce the burden of the instructors to design the brand-new exercises but also help students quickly understand the foundation of the problem from what they studied and embark on exploring the high-level topics in new courses. In this paper, we use the classic producer-consumer problem as an example to present our proposition. This problem is generally shown up in operating systems course to illustrate the multi-process synchronization. We expand this problem from different angels and motivate the students to further explore other relevant topics: The objects? datatypes, properties, functions are declared in programming course and the built-in thread feature in some specific language like Java can also be demonstrated by this problem's solution. The design of data structure of the producer, the consumer, and the buffer can be discussed in data structure course. The collaboration between the producer and the consumer can be used for explaining the cause of deadlock in database course. Finally, the producer-consumer problem is used to clarify different application architectures in application/software design course. We expect that our methodology on IT education can illumine other educators looking to the similar mode in their program. © 2020 ACM.
