Evaluation of emergency medical services (EMS) is a very risky and crucial task because taking a wrong decision on that stressful circumstances leading to an uncompensated event. Recently, emergent specialists come to this conclusion that their traditional decision making process, in the situation of incomplete information, is not as accurate as they expected. This paper is aimed at developing intelligent software to take a precise decision, even in the situation of facing with uncertainty and incomplete data. In this way, a fuzzy rule-based classifier system (FRBCS) capable of working with various types of input (hybrid inputs), even in the situation of facing with missing features, is proposed and compared to the conventional machine learning algorithms. In order to exhibit effectiveness of the proposed scheme, a data set is collected with the help of “Management and Medical Emergency Center of Fars Province” containing 227 subjects with heart attack. Recorded attributes for each subject includes 33 boolean, 4 real value, and 2 nominal features (totally 39 hybrid attributes) belong to 16 essential prehospital care order. Experimental results show the superiority of the introduced scheme to the state-of-art machine learning schemes in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity.

BitTorrent (BT) is one of the most popular Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network applications. Most characteristics (except the topology) of BT network have been examined extensively by measurement approaches. In this work, we deploy a measurement system to study the performance-related properties of BT topologies. We also use our measurement system to verify some previous simulation and experiment results obtained by other researchers. Different from previous results, we observe that a BT swarm has short distance, low clustering coefficient and Gaussian-like degree-frequency distribution. This indicates that a BT swarm is very close to a random network rather than a scale-free network or a small world. We observe that the diameter of a BT network at the initial stage is small even when 95% of peers use the peer exchange extension but the networks are not fully connected at the steady stages.

In change detection analysis, the computation of the no-change distribution is affected when changed pixels are in large number in the scene. Because of this, the performance of several techniques are compromised. In this paper we compare two well known automatic change detection techniques (ITPCA and IRMAD) by performing an initial elimination of the strong changes in order to minimize the contribution of the changed pixels to the radiometric normalization computation. These two techniques are ineffective in correctly estimating the distribution of the no-change pixels when this kind of scenario is encountered. The strong changes are identified by building an initial change mask (ICM), which is based on the statistical analysis of the given data set. In this paper we show two simple algorithms for building the ICM. From the experiments on a data set characterized by a high amount of changes due to the agriculture activity, the improvement in quality of the map of changes obtained by the proposed approach with respect to the ones obtained without using the ICM has been observed.

IPv6 is designed to address the scalability and service shortcomings of the current IPv4 protocol. Unfortunately, IPv6 is not backward-compatible with the IPv4. It is necessary to consider IPv4-IPv6 protocol conversion. To resolve this problem, in the paper, we use Petri nets to simulate and model the IPv4-Pv6 protocol conversion process. By analyzing the bounded ness, activity and reversibility of the model, we prove that the process can both achieve IPv4-IPv6 conversion and satisfy system security requirements. © 2012 IEEE.

Social inuence in social networks has been extensively re-searched. Most studies have focused on direct inuence, while another interesting question can be raised as whether indirect inuence exists between two users who're not directly connected in the network and what affects such inuence. In addition, the theory of complex contagion tells us that more spreaders will enhance the indirect inuence between two users. Our observation of intensity of indirect inu- ence, propagated by n parallel spreaders and quantified by retweeting probability in two Twitter social networks, shows that complex contagion is validated globally but is violated locally. In other words, the retweeting probability increases non-monotonically with some local drops. A quantum cognition based probabilistic model is proposed to account for these local drops. LTE and IEEE 802.16 WiMAX are competing access network technologies in 4G wireless networks. LTE is one of 3GPP standards while 802.16 WiMAX is standardized by IEEE. Although WiMAX already commercially operates in Taiwan, it is limited to the independently new system that cannot compatible with current 3G system. Hence, the cost of system construction is higher and cannot be popularized fast. On the other hand, LTE is developed by 3GPP which is organized by telecommunication manufactories and operators. Moreover, LTE is backward compatible with 3G/UMTS cellular systems. The LTE specifications define how user equipments (UEs) connect and communicate with base stations (eNBs). The enhanced version, LTE-Advanced, add a new entity called relay node (RN) to enlarge service coverage. The architecture is changed and becomes more complicated when RN is added. This paper focuses on handover procedure in LTE-Advanced networks and proposes a smart forwarding mechanism to improve handover performance.

In this paper, we present a robust and efficient mesh denoising algorithm which preserves high-resolution details very well. Our method is a three-stage algorithm. Firstly, we modify a robust density-based clustering method and apply it to the face neighborhood of each triangular face to extract a subset of neighbors which belong to the same cluster as the central face. Because the faces within the extracted subset are not distributed across high-resolution details, we filter the central face normal iteratively within this subset to remove noise and preserve such details as much as possible. Finally, vertex positions are updated to be consistent with the filtered face normals using a least-squares formulation. Experiments on various types of meshes indicate that our method has advantages over previous surface denoising methods. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Lowest eigenenergy states of electrons in a semiconductor quantum ring with cylindrical geometry have been evaluated in the presence of external magnetic field, applied parallel to the plane of the quantum ring. Kinetic energy is modified by the appearance of a vector potential due to the magnetic field thus controlling the electron energy-eigenvalues inside the ring. Time-independent Schrdinger equation is solved with appropriate boundary conditions, and first and second-order Bessel functions are considered for computation of energy subbands. Non-monotonic spacing of quantized electron energy states have been observed by changing different dimensions as well as changing magnetic field considering n-GaAs material. Tailoring of dimension and magnetic field helps to obtain absorption and emission spectra, making it suitable for photonic applications. © 2012 IEEE.

The fast temporal variations shallow water acoustic (SWA) channels need the temporal variations channel coding scheme at the acceptable cost. Hence, flexible channel coding rate, adjusted according to different ocean channel characteristics, should be desired in the design of practical error control SWA communication system. In this paper, we propose rate-compatible LDPC (RC-LDPC) codes to improve the communication system reliability for SWA communications. The proposed SWA system adopting RC-LDPC codes consists of three important preprocessing: channel state information (CSI) estimator, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimator and RC-LDPC pattern. For the estimation error, we define and derive the sensitivity to imperfect CSI and imperfect SNR. Then the design of RC-LDPC codes and SWA channel profile are described. Furthermore, the RC-LDPC performance pattern is given and sensitivity to estimation error of CSI and SNR are analyzed via simulation. It is shown that RC-LDPC codes have good performances with wide range of rates in SWA channels. Finally, coding rate distributions of RC-LDPC codes in different SNR at BER below 10-4 for SWA channel are investigated. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
