Realtime Hardware System Design for Collision Detection Based on LGMD2 Visual Interneuron

In this paper, we designed a realtime collision detection system using a visual neural network including LGMD2 of insects. The algorithm was designed to be hardware-friendly, and a pipeline structure was applied through critical path analysis. The exponential function was replaced with a linear approximation through error analysis to satisfy complexity and accuracy. By modifying the algorithm in the on/off channel, the space for storing the intermediate values of one frame size was reduced. Through performance analysis, errors were minimized and appropriate bit widths for each signal were determined. The simulation shows that collisions were detected at the correct time when five artificial and real images were applied. The proposed architecture was synthesized using Dongbu HiTek's 110nm standard cell library. As a result, 30.7K gates are required, and the maximum operating frequency is 263MHz, showing real-time processing performance of 125fps when applying 1920×1080 video. With the development of the smart shipping industry, unmanned vessel technology is rapidly evolving, accompanied by a demand for robust Internet of Things (IoT) communication security practices. Key communication technologies for the operation of unmanned vessels include external vessel communication. One crucial aspect is the verification of the identities of the parties involved in these communication systems, as this ensures secure and trusted interactions between unmanned vessels and port management authorities. Identity authentication plays a vital role in ensuring the secure communication of unmanned vessels. This paper aims to analyze potential risks related to identity authentication technology in unmanned vessel communication systems. To effectively address these risks, we propose leveraging digital certificates and blockchain technology to achieve device non-repudiation and substitution. Based on this technology, we organize and implement defense strategies using the MITRE ATT&CK framework. This framework provides a comprehensive and systematic approach to understanding potential threats and designing appropriate defense measures. By utilizing this framework, security teams can better comprehend vulnerabilities and formulate effective countermeasures. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed defense framework, we conducted simulation experiments. These experiments helped us evaluate the efficiency and reliability of the strategies in real-world scenarios. Through these experiments, we could ascertain whether the countermeasures effectively mitigated the identified risks and ensured the secure communication of unmanned vessels. © 2024 National Taiwan Ocean University

Comparison of Output Characteristic of Six-Phase Synchronous Motor with Different Winding Configurations and Rotor Shape Variations

In a six-phase system, the difference in phase shift affects the winding factor and the degree of magnetic coupling, which influences the motor performance. However, the phase shift can lead to complex problems in motor design because both the phase shift and the rotor shape affect the performance of the motor. Therefore, the phase shift should be selected by considering its combination with shape parameters. This study analyzed the output characteristics according to the six-phase winding configuration and rotor geometry. The motor type used in this study is a synchronous reluctance motor, and the six-phase winding is classified into three types (Type 1, Type 2, Type 3) based on the phase shift. Afterwards, finite element analysis simulations were conducted by adjusting the values of the rotor shape parameters for each winding type. The result showed that the phase shift has a minimal impact on the rotor shape. Furthermore, analysis of the simulation confirmed that the parameters in the d-axis region are relatively more affected. Therefore, these analysis results can be utilized in future research related to the design of six-phase rotor shapes. Copyright © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

A 4×4 CPW MIMO Antenna array with an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) reflector is presented for Wi-Fi7 access point on a metal wall application in the study. The 10-dB impedance of the integrated MIMO antenna array covers the Wi-Fi 7 operating bands, and the transmission coefficients are under -15 dB in the whole Wi-Fi7 bands. This proposed integrated MIMO antenna is low profile and has good total radiation efficiency (over 60%). The height of the integrated MIMO antenna array is 6.325 mm. © 2024 IEEE.

Hybrid CNN-ViT architecture to exploit spatio-temporal feature for fire recognition trained through transfer learning

Fires are becoming one of the major natural hazards that threaten the ecology, economy, human life and even more worldwide. Therefore, early fire detection systems are crucial to prevent fires from spreading out of control and causing destruction. Based on vision sensors, many fire detection techniques have evolved with the recent surge of curiosity in deep learning, which exploits the spatial features of individual images. However, fire can take different forms, scales, and combustion materials can produce different colors, making accurate fire detection from an image challenging. Small fires captured from long-distance cameras lack salient features, further complicating detection. This paper proposes a hybrid structure that uses attention-enhanced convolutional neural networks and vision transformers (CNN-ViT) to detect fire. The proposed CNN-ViT first pays spatial attention to every frame and then aggregates temporal contextual information from neighboring frames to improve detection performance. Due to the limited availability of training fire datasets, the study employs deep transfer learning for feature extraction using pre-trained CNN. We used various metrics to examine the efficacy of the proposed approach. The results showed that the CNN-ViT method outperformed previous models based on spatial-temporal characteristics by achieving a relative improvement in accuracy and F1 score. The satisfactory results on images contaminated with different intensities of noise confirm the robustness of the approach. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

A Novel Music Recommendation System Using Filtering Techniques

With the growth of the World Wide Web, a large amount of music data is available on the Internet. A large number of people listen to music online rather than downloading and listening offline. But only some sites provide personalized and accurately recommended songs while they listen to an auto-playing playlist. Hence the need for recommendation systems arises. Two approaches can be applied to the recommendation system: content based filtering and collaborative filtering. While in content-based filtering approach, analysis on the songs’ content which has been preferred by the user in history is done and the songs with relative similarity are recommended. While latter suggests songs that certain users of similar listening pattern have preferred. But collaborative filtering-based recommendation systems not only requires time to attain stability but also might recommend unsuitable music because it is not personalized to each user’s preference. Also, the latter requires the songs to be listened by a few users already to recommend it any other user. Hence for overall analysis, answers to few questions need to be implemented in recommendation systems: the very first one is how the properties should be analyzed, next one is how the analysis should be done and last is how the songs related to the user’s preference should be chosen. So, for suggesting the better system which solves these three questions as well as provides better and personalized recommendations, In this paper we build a collaborative filtering as well as content based filtering recommendation system, where various factors determine the essence of the songs, i.e. liveliness, keys used, loudness, pitch, valence, etc., are analyzed for comparison. From the experimental analysis in has been identified that content-based filtering technique performed best on KNN machine learning classifier with accuracy of 85%. © 2024 Slovene Society Informatika. A Realtime Lane Detection System Design using Gradient-based Hough Transform

Straight line detection using the gradient-based Hough transform has high accuracy, but has the disadvantage of increased memory and longer processing time due to storing and processing a lot of data. The proposed architecture applies the gradient-based Hough transform algorithm to consider only the points in the range of -4 to +4 centered on the gradient angle in parallel, and increases accuracy by applying the highest weight to the central pixel. In order to improve overall performance, the LUT for the trigonometric functions and voting memory for weight values are divided into 9 parts for each address area, so that the line detection speed is improved by processing data at the same time. The proposed architecture was designed with VerilogHDL and synthesized with DBhitek 110nm standard cell library and the results showed that the maximum operating frequency was 210Mhz (73 fps) with 15K of 2-input NAND gates and 5,950Kb of memory. In this paper, the error rate was reduced by using a calibration algorithm that can correct errors that occur in the initial disparity calculation stage using adaptive support-weights. Performance can be further improved by overlapping the initial disparity calculation and the disparity calibration stages. Because the adaptive support-weight algorithm includes nonlinear functions, it is impossible to reuse already processed data. In this study, it is designed to reuse data by separating rows and columns, and as a result, performance is improved and real-time processing is possible. To optimize the delay path, the exponential function is approximated with a step function, and a 5-stage pipeline is applied to the division operation. The proposed architecture was designed using VerilogHDL and synthesized with DBhitek 110nm standard cell library. The synthesized system used a maximum frequency of 666MHz (57fps) with 33K gates, and a memory of 4.9KB, and showed an error rate of 1.88% for tsukuba image. © 2023 Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers. Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a widely adopted technology in dental healthcare, particularly for surgical planning. However, effective visualization methods are crucial for formatting and analyzing volumetric data. Two primary formatting options - Curved Multi-planar Reformatting and Direct Volume Rendering - are used widely for evaluating jaw shape and creating panoramic views. Existing software methods frequently require the manual selection of several nodes along the jaw on an axial image that roughly represents the shape of the dental arch. Our work intends to introduce a novel and automatic algorithm for detecting the patient's jaw from CBCT, suitable for defining a focal trough and evaluating an optimal patient-specific dynamic rotation trajectory applicable to rotational panoramic radiography based only on the CBCT volume data without the need to delineate a dental arch. Our findings showed that this approach works well even for patients without teeth or having heavy metal implants. © 2024 IEEE.

Real-world images often encompass embedded texts that adhere to disparate disciplines like business, education, and amusement, to name a few. Such images are graphically rich in terms of font attributes, color distribution, foreground-background similarity, and component organization. This aggravates the difficulty of recognizing texts from these images. Such characteristics are very prominent in the case of movie posters. One of the first pieces of information on movie posters is the title. Automatic recognition of movie titles from images can aid in efficient indexing as well as information conveyance. However, it is accompanied by other texts like the names of actors, producers, taglines, dates, etc. Though the organization of components is somewhat similar across different film industries like Tollywood (West Bengal), Bollywood (Mumbai), and Hollywood (Los Angeles), the graffiti patterns differ in multifarious instances. To address the problem of movie title understanding, we propose a dataset named MOvie POsters-Hollywood Bollywood Tollywood (MOPO-HBT) that encompasses movie posters from the aforementioned industries. The entire dataset is publicly available (http://***/11564) for research purposes. The baseline results of title identification and recognition were obtained with a CNN-based (Convolutional Neural Network) approach, wherein the titles were extracted using the M-EAST (Modified-Efficient and Accurate Scene Text) detector model. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2023.
