Software bug classification is a critical task in software engineering aimed at identifying defects early to improve software quality and reliability. Despite its importance, effectively classifying software defects remains a challenge, necessitating the use of advanced techniques such as feature selection. This research presents a comprehensive study on feature selection methods for software defect classification, to evaluate their effectiveness in enhancing classification accuracy. The study investigates the impact of feature selection methods (filter-based, wrapper-based, and embedding) on model performance using classification algorithms such Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machines, K-Nearest Neighbour, and Random Forest. The studies are carried out using publicly accessible software defect datasets, and conventional evaluation measures such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score are used to evaluate the effectiveness of each feature selection strategy. The findings of the study confirm the effectiveness of ensemble methods in bug severity classification, with Random Forest achieving notable accuracy rates for different datasets. Additionally, the study highlights the superiority of wrapper feature selection techniques over filter methods, demonstrating their ability to select informative features for defect severity classification. The findings of this work give useful information for practitioners in selecting and implementing feature selection approaches when developing defect classification models, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of software quality and reliability. © 2024 IEEE.

The process of a supply chain involves a series of activities that distribute, assemble, and manage products, transferring them from the supplier to the end consumer. It operates as a complex, interconnected network regulated by supply and demand. Security in supply chain management is a crucial aspect of its overall security measures, focusing primarily on maintaining essential end-to-end protection. Without this, several attacks can be used to manipulate data and valuable information from the entire chain of networks. This paper explains how encrypted intermediates can secure the entire SCM by validating each intermediate using public-private key encryption. We also demonstrate and assess how the proposed AAF-SCM model can aid in tracing security breaches or unauthorized data tampering. We also validate this model against nefarious attacks like Fabrication, Assertion, Deletion, and Modification. Finally, we propose opportunities to develop innovative systems that enhance security through intermediary steps. © 2024 IEEE.

In the field of book search, research on a web service-based user-customized book recommendation system is being conducted to respond to increasingly diverse user requirements. The collaborative filtering algorithm, which is mainly used for book recommendation, has a problem in that it is difficult to reflect the user’s recent interest without considering the changes in preference over time, and the user’s satisfaction decreases because it repeatedly recommends only similar items. In this paper, we propose a book recommendation method using category similarity based on deep learning. The proposed method is to predict books to be used next time by inputting users’ past and current book usage history through BERT, a natural language processing model, and to recommend popular books in other categories with high similarity to the predicted book category in the BERT model to reflect serendipity. This method reflects serendipity, which can lead to users’ recent interests and practical preferences, so that recommendation accuracy and user satisfaction can be satisfied at the same time. © 2025 River Publishers.

Data is often thought of and treated as a non-rival good, which would imply that one person’s use of data does not inherently diminish its availability for others. Building on research in privacy and statistics, we argue that there exist many important settings in which data should be treated as a rival good. Our argument takes into account modern uses of data for statistics, machine learning, and a variety of other purposes, in conjunction with requirements of privacy protection and statistical validity. Excessive sharing or reuse of data about individuals can lead to leakage of sensitive personal information, potentially causing harm to those whose information is included in the data. Overuse of data in statistics or machine learning can lead to overfitting, i.e., models that perform well on training data but poorly on fresh unseen data. Recognizing the rival nature of data offers an opportunity to rethink the way data are managed and used. In an age where the training of AI models generates a massive appetite for data, this perspective has the potential to inform the creation of new regulation and technical infrastructure that will be able to safely and responsibly manage data, track their various uses, and ensure that privacy and statistical usefulness are respected and preserved. We observe that current EU regulation and existing approaches to science seeking to increase opportunities for data-sharing and reuse of data misconstrue the complex nature of data, inadvertently creating risks of privacy harms and overfitting, hence squandering the societal benefits that can be derived from data. Recognizing the rival nature of data has implications for policy and practice. Regulation should address the limitations and risks associated with data reuse and facilitate technological measures to track, analyze, and manage data usage with the goal of ensuring that privacy and statistical validity are maintained. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

This paper proposes a very novel and dynamic approach to psychological assessment by utilising virtual video games as a psychometric tool. Traditional methods, such as interviews and surveys, often yield conscious responses, leading to potential inaccuracies. Leveraging the interactive and immersive nature of video games, our research aims to enhance the accuracy and engagement of data collection. We introduce a dynamic scale to quantify player responses, providing a structured framework for systematic assessment. Collected data can be analysed using statistical models or customised by experts to evaluate psychological indicators precisely. This research explores the benefits of virtual video games in improving the accuracy, engagement, and flexibility of psychological assessments, contributing to more effective solutions in clinical psychology. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) brings numerous benefits but further presents fresh difficulties, especially in terms of security. The distributed and interconnected nature of IoT devices makes them susceptible to various security threats. An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) plays a crucial role in safeguarding IoT networks by monitoring, detecting, and responding to potential security incidents. The Internet of Things (IoT) connects billions of devices, sensors, and systems, transforming industries and everyday life. However, this extensive interconnectivity also introduces significant security risks, making Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) a critical component for safeguarding IoT environments. Feature selection is a crucial aspect of building effective Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). Selecting relevant features not only helps in achieving better classification accuracy but also contributes to reducing false alarm rates. In the proposed system a moth flame optimizer is utilized to select the efficient features from the dataset, overall accuracy of over 97%. Fatigue during driving significantly impairs a driver's reaction time, awareness, and decision-making abilities, leading to an increased risk of accidents. Recognising and mitigating driver fatigue is crucial for enhancing road safety and preventing potential collisions. This research introduces a non-intrusive method to reduce road accidents caused by driver fatigue. Recognising that accidents often occur due to lapses in driver alertness, the system utilises an affordable, high-quality webcam and dashcam. The approach involves extracting essential information through a multi-stage monitoring process to evaluate the driver's state thoroughly. The study includes a detailed analysis of webcam specifications, such as resolution, frame rate, and additional features. It also compares the traditional cascading technique with the advanced MediaPipe method, incorporating facial recognition, eye movement tracking, and head position analysis to detect driver fatigue accurately. © 2024 IEEE.

Vision-based autonomous navigation is pivotal in mobile robot technology, involving autonomous movement, path planning, obstacle avoidance, and target reaching in unknown environments. Reinforcement Learning (RL) offers a trial-and-error-driven learning method for autonomous navigation. However, training RL models directly on physical robots is time-intensive and poses potential risks. Simulators accelerate RL training efficiency and reduce costs, but they typically provide only approximate models of robot dynamics and their interactions with the environment. This leads to a simulation-to-reality gap (Sim2Real Gap), where strategies trained in simulation under-perform in real-world applications, sometimes resulting in task failures. To address the issue of reducing the Sim2Real Gap in visual sampling training, this paper establishes a bridging plugin between the simulator and ROS, enabling the subscription to interaction data between the ROS-based robot and its real-world environment. We propose a Sim2Real domain adaptation method based on CycleGAN, which generates effective visual observations for autonomous navigation learning. The experimental results demonstrate that this domain adaptation-based method, by utilizing minimal real-world data, significantly reduces the Sim2Real Gap compared to approaches relying solely on simulation data, achieving a performance improvement of 62.38%. © 2024 IEEE.

We introduce Maskify, an innovative tool designed to automatically detect and evaluate the use of face masks. Amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, wearing masks has emerged as a crucial strategy to limit the virus's spread, especially in environments where mask mandates are enforced. Reliable systems for monitoring mask usage are therefore vital for public *** solution leverages deep learning to not only determine if a person is wearing a mask but also to assess how well the mask fits using a specialized metric called the "wearable score."This score quantifies the extent to which the mask properly covers essential areas of the face. Developing Maskify involved creating a diverse dataset that includes images of both masked and unmasked *** process begins with advanced pre-trained models that accurately identify faces in images. Once a face is detected, key landmarks on the lower face are extracted to assist in classifying the mask. We utilize ResNet-based architectures, known for their robust image classification performance, to enhance the detection accuracy.
