Cluster-based routing or Hierarchical is a widely recognized approach with particular benefits in terms of scalability and communication efficiency. In Wireless Sensor networks supported IoT, the utilization of clustered routing is a cost-effective method of data collection and transmission, where nodes with the most energy remaining can be utilized to collect and transmit data. This paper proposed a soft Fuzzy C-Means Dynamic Clustering (FCM-DC) Approach. A new Cluster Head (CH) selection technique was presented also. The proposed model was compared with an existing cluster based routing protocol, LEACH protocol, and LEACH-C protocol. The proposed FCM-DC model reduce the packet delay about 16% in 50 nodes scenario and 86% in 100 nodes scenario compared with LEACH. © 2024 IEEE.

Satellite communication system is crucial to the advancement of sixth-generation (6G) networks, providing global connectivity and supporting applications that demand ultraspeed high and low latency. However, the high mobility of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites poses significant challenges to maintaining consistent communication links, primarily due to the frequent handover required by user equipment. Traditional signal strength-based handover technique, which is effective in terrestrial networks, struggles in the satellite network due to the minimal signal strength variation across overlapping cells. This leads to frequent and unnecessary handovers, resulting in reduced network performance. To address these challenges, we propose an CNN-LSTM based predictive line-of-sight (LoS) duration estimation method that allows user terminals to anticipate satellite connection stability, minimizing unnecessary handovers and improving network efficiency in dynamic satellite environments. © 2024 IEEE.

In next-generation 6G scenarios, non-terrestrial net-works employing low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites will be pivotal in achieving ultra-wide coverage, ultra-connectivity, and ultra-precision. Although LEO satellites provide comprehensive global coverage, their rapid mobility introduces frequent handovers, requiring sophisticated scheduling to maintain uninterrupted service. This paper proposes a deep reinforcement learning-based scheduling algorithm in order to improve service rate and continuity for terrestrial users in multi-LEO) environments. © 2024 IEEE.

The advent of smart industry, propelled by the inte-gration of digital technologies and automation, has revolutionized manufacturing and industrial processes. Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) are at the forefront of this transformation, driving extensive research into robotic automation and motion planning. Traditional motion planning algorithms, such as artificial potential fields, bio-inspired heuristics, and sampling-based methods, often falter in complex environments due to their high computational demands and tendency to produce non-optimal solutions. Reinforcement learning (RL) has emerged as a powerful alternative, offering real-time adaptation and optimal decision-making in dynamic settings. This paper reviews the inherent limitations of classical motion planning approaches and explores contemporary trends in RL-based methods, with a focus on their application in smart industry. It highlights the advantages of RL in enhancing adaptability, efficiency, and robustness, particularly in high-dimensional and dynamic environments. Key discussions include the integration of RL with traditional techniques, the extension of RL applications across various domains, and the role of sensor-based approaches in improving motion control. © 2024 IEEE.

Behavior trees (BTs) have gained recognition for their modularity and scalability, establishing them as a robust framework for task automation and planning in various domains, including robotics, game AI, and autonomous systems. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the integration of BTs with reinforcement learning (RL) and learning-from-demonstration (LfD) to enhance decision making and task planning in robotic systems. The review emphasizes the advantages of BTs, such as increased adaptability and efficiency through RL integration and the simplification of robot programming via LfD. Despite these benefits, challenges persist in the areas of computational complexity, scalability in multi-agent systems, and the automatic generation of BTs. This paper concludes by identifying key areas for future research to address these challenges and further advance the development of autonomous robotic systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Facial expression recognition (FER) in an uncontrolled environment presents a formidable challenge in affective computing and human-machine interaction domains. Existing FER models fail to generalize due to the innate expression nature of the intra-class separability and inter-class compactness. Although most state-of-the-art FER research focuses on more advanced frameworks and well-separated discriminative loss functions, further exploration is needed to obtain high-quality expression features. This paper proposes a robust feature enhancement approach for FER by integrating the De-pooling Feature Enhancement and Weighted Exponential Moving Average (WEMA) of Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The proposed method utilizes De-Pooling Feature Enhancement to capture and enhance the high-quality expression features, while WEMA of SGD optimizes the training process for improved stability and convergence. Our extensive experimental analysis of benchmark datasets signifies that our proposed method prevails over state-of-the-art methods, achieving superior accuracy performances of 86.43% on FER2013, 94.97% on FERPlus, 94.71% on RAF-DB, as well as 80.62% and 72.90% on AffectNet, of 7 class and 8 class, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are key to sustainable cities, in particular when they get charged from renewable energy resources. However, the intermittent nature of variable renewable energy impacts the distribution system's reliability. With the increasing maturity of energy storage system (ESS), the integration of solar photovoltaics (PV), ESS, and EVs can provide a cost-effective and green alternative to grid-based charging primarily based on fossil fuels for most regions. This paper presents a cost-effective energy management system (EMS) at a fast-charging station (FCS) for charging EVs based on electricity prices, which offers a platform for energy transactions among the FCS's selling and procuring parties. The EMS of the FCS is simulated taking into account the solar PV, grid, ESS, EV charger, and building load limits. A mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed and analysed for FCS owner profit maximization using IBM ILOG studio with CPLEX solver. Results indicate that, for the case of Auckland, New Zealand, the viability of FCS with solar and ESS exist, and the framework developed in this work can serve as a reference for all such deployments worldwide. © 2024 IEEE.

Responding to inefficiencies in traditional classroom management methods, this paper proposes an innovative, technology-driven approach to enhance educational processes. Central to our proposal is the development of a facial recognition system designed for efficient student attendance tracking, thus eliminating time-consuming roll calls. Additionally, we plan to introduce interactive whiteboard features to enrich classroom dynamics between students and faculty. However, our approach extends beyond mere attendance tracking and interactive learning. We aim to launch a Program Learning Outcomes (PLO) and Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) mapper. Leveraging Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, this tool will auto-align CLOs with PLOs, facilitating a more efficient curriculum development process. We also suggest implementing a feature powered by YOLOv5 to monitor and assess student attention in the classroom. Our comprehensive suite of tools is designed to equip educators with resources to refine their teaching strategies and boost student learning outcomes. By integrating facial recognition for attendance, interactive whiteboard features, NLP-based CLO/PLO mapping, and attention monitoring, we aspire to provide a robust solution enabling educators to adapt their teaching methods to students' unique needs. © 2023 IEEE.

We introduce a variant of knapsack problem which deals with divisible items and combinatorial discounts. Here, a combinatorial discount means that if we buy some combination of items with certain amounts, we receive a discount. If some items are left over for one discount and another discount is available, both discounts will be applied. In this way, multiple discounts could be applied. We consider to apply Benders decomposition technique for this problem, and prove that we only need to consider a subset of the cone used in Benders decomposition. This implies that we can apply Benders decomposition efficiently to this problem. Results of preliminary numerical experiments are also shown. © 2022 IEEE.

Genetic instability is one of the hallmarks of cancer, however mutations can occur for different causes and induce different effects. Mutational signatures are characteristic patterns of somatic mutations in cancer genomes, reflecting the underlying mutational processes. A mutational signature can be determined by studying the kind of mutations a patient has acquired during their life: patient stratification based on mutational signatures has become more and more useful in genomic studies, given its possible clinical implications. In this work we focused on Single Base Substitution (SBS) signatures to study a cohort of 115 metastatic melanoma patients. We inferred and identified two mutational signatures characterizing the patients. Based on these signatures we divided patients into two group: the bigger group was characterized by a signature associated with exposure to ultraviolet light, while the smaller group resulted to be mostly composed of patients which did not respond to immunotherapy (anti-PD1) and that presented a low mutational count. More importantly this second group showed a significantly worse survival outcome. The use of mutational signatures is clearly a powerful tool to identify disease sub-types that have a clinical relevance, however we believe that this topic needs further investigation focused on the characterization of patient subtypes with a multi-omics based approach. © 2023 IEEE.
