In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR) in the beauty industry. In this paper, we present an AI-assisted skin care recommendation system integrated into an XR platform. The system uses a convolutional neural network (CNN) to analyse an individual's skin type and recommend personalised skin care products in an immersive and interactive manner. Our methodology involves collecting data from individuals through a questionnaire and conducting skin analysis using a provided facial image in an immersive environment. This data is then used to train the CNN model, which recognises the skin type and existing issues and allows the recommendation engine to suggest personalised skin care products. We evaluate our system in terms of the accuracy of the CNN model, which achieves an average score of 93% in correctly classifying existing skin issues. Being integrated into an XR system, this approach has the potential to significantly enhance the beauty industry by providing immersive and engaging experiences to users, leading to more efficient and consistent skincare routines. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), selecting a chain leader is a critical issue. In this paper, we present a novel method for selecting chain leaders in a chain-based routing protocols that utilizes a Neural network (NN). Our proposed method is applicable to any chain-based routing protocol, such as PEGASIS (Power-Efficient Gathering in Sensor Information Systems) [6], CBERP (Cluster Based Energy Efficient Routing Protocol) [15], CCM (Chain-Cluster Based Mixed Routing Protocol) [14], CCBRP (Chain-Chain Based Routing Protocol) [18], and others. To validate our claim that our method can be applied to any chain-based routing protocol, we checked it on two of the most well-known protocols, PEGASIS (the original chain-based routing protocol) and CCBRP. It is well recognized that energy consumption is a critical issue for all WSNs. Our proposed methodology uses the Neural network as a tool to select chain leaders based on the residual energy of each network member node. The simulation results show that the use of our proposed method improved the performance of both PEGASIS and CCBRP in terms of consumed energy and network lifetime. © 2021 IEEE.

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are key to sustainable cities, in particular when they get charged from renewable energy resources. However, the intermittent nature of variable renewable energy impacts the distribution system’s reliability. With the increasing maturity of energy storage system (ESS), the integration of solar photovoltaics (PV), ESS, and EVs can provide a cost-effective and green alternative to grid-based charging primarily based on fossil fuels for most regions. This paper presents a cost-effective energy management system (EMS) at a fast-charging station (FCS) for charging EVs based on electricity prices, which offers a platform for energy transactions among the FCS’s selling and procuring parties. The EMS of the FCS is simulated taking into account the solar PV, grid, ESS, EV charger, and building load limits. A mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed and analysed for FCS owner profit maximization using IBM ILOG studio with CPLEX solver. Results indicate that, for the case of Auckland, New Zealand, the viability of FCS with solar and ESS exist, and the framework developed in this work can serve as a reference for all such deployments worldwide.

In today’s digital world, the Internet is an essential component of communication networks. It provides a platform for quickly exchanging information among communicating parties. There is a risk of unauthorized persons gaining access to our sensitive information while it is being transmitted. Cryptography is one of the most effective and efficient strategies for protecting our data and it are utilized all around the world. The efficiency of a cryptography algorithm is determined by a number of parameters, one of which is the length of the key. For cryptography, key (public/private) is an essential part. To provide robust security, RSA takes larger key size. If we use larger key size, the processing performance will be slowed. As a result, processing speed will decrease and memory consumption will increase. Due to this, cryptographic algorithms with smaller key size and higher security are becoming more popular. Out of the cryptographic algorithms, Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) provides equivalent level of safety which RSA provides, but it takes smaller key size. On the basis of key size, our work focused on, studied, and compared the efficacy in terms of security among the well-known public key cryptography algorithms, namely ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography) and RSA (Rivets Shamir Adelman). © 2023 River Publishers.

Algorithm Families for Computing Information-Theoretic Forms of Strong Converse Exponents in Channel Coding and Lossy Source Coding

The error exponent of a discrete memoryless channel is expressed in two forms. One is Gallager’s expression with a slope parameter ρ ∈ [0, 1] and the other is Csiszár and Körner’s information-theoretic representation expressed using the mutual information and the relative entropy. They differ in appearance, and existing proof methods for their agreement are not elementary, requiring an evaluation of the Karush-Kuhn-Tacker (KKT) condition that an optimal distribution must satisfy. Similarly, there are two expressions of the correct decoding probability exponent or the strong converse exponent. They are Arimoto’s expression with slope parameter ρ ∈ (−1, 0] and Dueck and Körner’s information-theoretic expression. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the relationship between two different ways of representing exponents, namely, representation using slope parameters and representation using information-theoretic quantities, from the viewpoint of algorithms for computing exponents. Arimoto’s algorithm for computing the exponents is based on representation using slope parameters. On the other hand, the authors’ and Tridenski and Zamir’s algorithms compute the strong converse exponent based on Dueck and Körner’s information-theoretic expression. A family of algorithms that includes the above two algorithms as special cases was recently proposed by Tridenski et al. We clarify that the convergence of Tridenski and Zamir’s algorithm proves the agreement of Arimoto’s and Dueck and Körner’s strong converse exponents. We discuss another family of algorithms and, using the surrogate objective function used therein, prove that the two representations of the error exponent coincide. This proof method is elementary in the sense that it does not require evaluation of the KKT condition. In the second half of the paper, we discuss the error and correct decoding probability exponents of lossy source coding of discrete memoryless sources and the algorithms for computing them. We introduce a variant of knapsack problem which deals with divisible items and combinatorial discounts. Here, a combinatorial discount means that if we buy some combination of items with certain amounts, we receive a discount. If some items are left over for one discount and another discount is available, both discounts will be applied. In this way, multiple discounts could be applied. We consider to apply Benders decomposition technique for this problem, and prove that we only need to consider a subset of the cone used in Benders decomposition. This implies that we can apply Benders decomposition efficiently to this problem. Results of preliminary numerical experiments are also shown.

Due to the ever increasing usage of multimedia content sharing and the inherent nature of the insecure links used for transmission, it is quite necessary to provide a fast and secure encryption algorithm. Current symmetric ciphers possess properties that may reveal some content of the plaintext images, especially when a block cipher is used without any chaining. Chaotic encryption has been proposed to allow for hiding inherent properties of the images and to generate almost uniform histograms of the cipher image (i.e.;hiding any visual properties). To that end, we propose the use of hardware to implement chaos-based ciphers for faster execution time. The results of this work show that such an implementation is feasible, and even favorable, when compared to software-based image encryption. © 2023 IEEE.

Filtered-OFDM scheme recently considers a promising element for Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems. Converting the F-OFDM bipolar signal to a nonnegative signal and being compatible with the Intensity Modulation and Direct Detection (IM/DD) is a crucial issue for researchers. To achieve a unipolar signal, many techniques have been proposed. In this paper, a Direct Current-bias (DC-bias) technique is employed to acquire a signal unipolarity and evaluate the efficiency of the F-OFDM system. The simulation findings offer that when the DC bias increased, the peak–to-average-power ratio (PAPR) increased even when using different modulation orders. In contrast, comparing different modulation orders, F-OFDM shows better bit error rate (BER) performance, especially in low-order modulation schemes.

We analyze the fundamental trade-off of secret key-based authentication systems in the presence of an eavesdropper for correlated Gaussian sources. A complete characterization of the trade-off among secret-key, storage, and privacy-leakage rates of both generated and chosen secret models is provided. One of the main contributions is revealing that unlike the known results for discrete sources, there is no need for the second auxiliary random variable in characterizing the capacity regions for the Gaussian cases. In addition, it is shown that the strong secrecy for secrecy-leakage of the systems can be achieved by an information-spectrum approach, and the parametric expressions (computable forms) of the capacity regions are also derived.
