Due to the push for more sustainable generation, small-scale distributed energy resources (DERs) penetration has increased significantly. Most countries have no remote monitoring and control requirements for DERs below a certain size. Therefore, they can be labeled as uncontrollable DERs (UDERs). In isolated systems, the UDERs hosting capacity is limited due to frequency stability concerns, as it is impossible to modify or curtail their generation in a centralized manner. In this paper, we propose the utilization of the active power over-frequency reduction curve for increasing the hosting capacity of UDERs in isolated power systems. Cyprus’s power system has been used to evaluate the proposed solution’s performance. The optimal settings of the curve have been identified, and it was found that UDERs hosting capacity can be increased significantly with the proposed methodology.

Real-time vital signs (breathing and heartbeat) monitoring is essential for patient care and sleep disease prevention. Current solutions are mostly based on wearable sensors or cameras, the former affects the quality of sleep, while the latter is not conducive to privacy protection, and the cost of these methods is usually expensive. In this paper, we propose Wital, a real-time vital signs monitoring system based on the low-cost and widespread COTS WiFi device. Most of the existing WiFi-based vital signs monitoring solutions utilize the line of sight (LOS) WiFi signals to achieve powerful performance. However, in our daily environments, NLOS sensing is more common. In this article, we first model the relationship between the energy ratio of LOS/NLOS signals and the ability to monitor vital signs based on the Ricean-K theory and theoretically prove that blocking LOS signals in NLOS sensing is more beneficial. We have also established a real-time vital signs monitoring system to verify our method, and the experimental results prove the effectiveness of our method. © 2021 IEEE.

The outline of the project and the up-to-date status and the progress of the power transmission system towards the realization of the Space Solar Power System (SSPS) will be presented including newly started power transmission demonstration project from the LEO satellite to the ground based on the established technologies by the development projects preceded. Japan Space Systems and organized team have been engaged in the SSPS project for more than 30 years and the current power transmission system development project for SSPS was started under METI in the year 2019. The project consisted of three major tasks. The first is to develop system and to establish necessary technologies for so called power generation and transmission panel (PGTP) whose size is about 50 cm square and 10 cm thick, and the target weight should be less than 9 kg. This panel is going to be a unit to consist of the practical power generation and transmission system from the space for the operational SSPS in the GEO as the goal. The second is to improve the total efficiency from DC input to output RF power to exceed 60%. The third is to demonstrate long-range wireless power transmission from flying vehicle to the ground. And then, the power transmission demonstration experiment project from the LEO to the ground with 150kg class satellite started at the end of the year 2022, and is going to be introduced in this paper. This project consisted of the power beaming and configuring technologies from the on the orbit phase array transmission system integrated on the LEO satellite to the ground distributed beam configuration measuring system, and also to demonstrate power transmission based on the preceding development results. This study presents a novel investigation into the thermal behavior of a hybrid nanofluid (MgO − Ag − H2O) in natural convection around a porous fin in a triangular enclosure under the influence of radiation and magnetohydrodynamic effects. The research uniquely combines these complex phenomena, addressing a significant gap in the literature. This configuration has potential applications in advanced solar thermal collectors, electronic cooling systems for high-power devices, and compact heat exchangers in various industries. The main objectives are to understand how various parameters influence heat transfer and fluid flow behavior and to optimize the design for enhanced thermal performance. The study considers a range of variables including Rayleigh number (103 − − 106), Hartmann number (0 – 50), Aspect ratio (0.3 – 0.6), radiation parameters (Rd = 1 − − 5, λ = 1 − 5), and volume concentration (0- 0.05), which have been numerically analyzed using the finite element method (FEM). The findings reveal that increasing the Darcy number (Da) enhances heat transfer at low Rayleigh numbers (Ra = 103,104). However, at higher Ra (Ra = 106), the impact of Da becomes more complex, with a critical Da beyond which heat transfer efficiency decreases due to an increase in flow resistance. The nanoparticle volume concentration plays a vital role, as higher concentrations lead to improved heat transfer efficiency, especially at higher Ra, through enhanced thermal conductivity and thermal dispersion. The length of the porous fin greatly impacts fluid flow patterns and heat transfer rates, with longer fins creating more complex flow patterns, promoting enhanced heat transfer and stronger thermal plumes. Thermal radiation, represented by the radiation parameters (Rd and λ), significantly influences both the heat transfer rate and the convective flow patterns within the enclosure. Unsteady study of the natural convection of aluminum oxide-water nanofluid within a trapezoidal geometry containing a circular cylinder located at its center. Finite Element method has been considered for the numerical analysis. The proposed investigation handled the impact of Rayleigh number (103–105), chemical reaction parameter (0–4), aluminum oxide nanoparticles volume fraction (0–0.06), magnetic field (0–63) and its inclination angle (0°–90°), and circular obstacle diameter (0.3–0.7) effects on time-dependent natural convection of Al2O3–H2O nanofluid. On the other hand, the value of Prandtl number has kept constant at (Pr = 6.2). Since the nanofluid mobility at φ = 0.02, Ha = 3, and Fk = 1 significantly improved, the heat transfer rate achieved its maximum intensity at Ra = 105. Research also reveals a little effect on heat transfer by increasing the fraction of nanoparticles. Additionally, as Ha intensifies from 0 to 63, a final change in the mean Nusselt number of 28.65 % is displayed. Finally, as the magnetic field angle of rotation is diminished, more enhancement in heat transmission is achieved. This research provides insights into the intricate relationship between natural convection and exothermic reaction under the influences of various conditions. This can illustrate the flow and thermal behaviors of nanofluid in such non-uniform shapes in many engineering applications. © 2024

The evolution of Software Defined networks (SDN) and network Function Virtualization (NFV) introduced a revolutionary development in network architecture. SDN together with NFV provides users a platform to design flexible virtual networks (VNs) on a shared computer infrastructure. However, network administrators have specific requirements to secure this network. There are new security demands for VN such as flexible network function migrations and user-focused security system, which may not be supported by traditional firewalls. In our work we have implemented SDN and NFV based firewalls on an open source platform mininet. POX module and Click Modular Router are used to develop our firewall modules. Then we evaluated the performance of both firewalls with packet loss and throughput measurement. © 2020 IEEE.

3D object detection is an essential perception task in autonomous driving to understand the environments. The Bird's-Eye-View (BEV) representations have significantly improved the performance of 3D detectors with camera inputs on popular benchmarks. However, there still lacks a systematic understanding of the robustness of these vision-dependent BEV models, which is closely related to the safety of autonomous driving systems. In this paper, we evaluate the natural and adversarial robustness of various representative models under extensive settings, to fully understand their behaviors influenced by explicit BEV features compared with those without BEV. In addition to the classic settings, we propose a 3D consistent patch attack by applying adversarial patches in the 3D space to guarantee the spatiotemporal consistency, which is more realistic for the scenario of autonomous driving. With substantial experiments, we draw several findings: 1) BEV models tend to be more stable than previous methods under different natural conditions and common corruptions due to the expressive spatial representations;2) BEV models are more vulnerable to adversarial noises, mainly caused by the redundant BEV features;3) Camera-LiDARfusion models have superior performance under different settings with multi-modal inputs, but BEV fusion model is still vulnerable to adversarial noises of both point cloud and image. These findings alert the safety issue in the applications of BEV detectors and could facilitate the development of more robust models. © 2023 IEEE.

Electronic media knowledge is unprecedently increasing in recent years. In almost all security control areas, traffic control, weather monitoring, video conferences, social media etc., videos and multimedia data analysis practices are used. As a consequence, it is necessary to retain and transmit these data, by considering the security and privacy issues. IN this research study, a new Div-Mod Stego algorithm is combined with the Multi-Secret Sharing method along with temporary frame reordering and Genetic algorithm to implement high-end security in the process of video sharing. The qualitative and quantitative analysis has also been carried out to compare the performance of the proposed model with the other existing models. A computer analysis shows that the proposed solution would satisfy the requirements of the real-time application.

Due to the ever increasing usage of multimedia content sharing and the inherent nature of the insecure links used for transmission, it is quite necessary to provide a fast and secure encryption algorithm. Current symmetric ciphers possess properties that may reveal some content of the plaintext images, especially when a block cipher is used without any chaining. Chaotic encryption has been proposed to allow for hiding inherent properties of the images and to generate almost uniform histograms of the cipher image (i.e.; hiding any visual properties). To that end, we propose the use of hardware to implement chaos-based ciphers for faster execution time. The results of this work show that such an implementation is feasible, and even favorable, when compared to software-based image encryption.

The success of Software-Defined networking and network Function Virtualization enabled providers to partially automate the decision-making of various network operating workflows. network slicing is an innate feature of the Fifth Generation (5G) and Beyond-5G (B5G) networks, bringing many advantages but also increasing the complexity of managing such networks. In this context, automation tools based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) have become a preeminent instrument of automation used by the industry, as it would be impossible to manually provision and manage such a vast and dynamic infrastructure. Safe interaction of the AI agents with the network is one of the predominant challenges, especially when Reinforcement Learning (RL) is used in critical environments. This is particularly important when the RL agent actions have a high or irreversible impact on the network or service. Slice management is one of the major features that operators want to automate, to offer future services at large scales with manageable complexity to the operator. However, during the exploration phase, RL agents can cause significant performance degradation during operation and possibly introduce irreversible damage to the service being offered. To address this major challenge, we propose a multi-agent, modular, SafeRL architecture for distributed slice orchestration. We study the problem of zero-touch slice management and orchestration, in the context of Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication services for B5G networks. Our results demonstrate improved performance over competing solutions, while ensuring the safety of the performed actions during real-time slice orchestration.
