In the rapidly evolving landscape of heterogeneous computing, the efficiency of data movement between CPUs and GPUs can make or break system performance. Despite advancements in parallel processing, existing methods for managing data transfers - particularly in GPU offloading scenarios - suffer from significant inefficiencies. These inefficiencies are particularly evident in nucleation list precomputation for non-equilibrium solidification models, where redundant data movements and complex dynamic work-sharing in OpenMP lead to significant performance overhead. To tackle this issue, this paper proposes a novel solution that integrates the Location-Aware Heap Static Single Assignment (LASSA) algorithm into the compilation process. This approach identifies and eliminates redundant memory copy operations, optimizing data transfers and reducing overhead. The findings reveal a dramatic performance boost, with up to a 9.6-fold increase in efficiency. By addressing the specific challenges of nucleation list precomputation, this work provides valuable insights into optimizing data movement in heterogeneous computing environments, paving the way for enhanced performance in parallel programming models. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper introduces a sign language translation system designed to bridge the communication gap between Hard of Hearing (HOH) or mute individuals, and address challenges in job opportunities and mental health. The system offers bi-directional translation of sign language and speech/text. For sign language to speech/text translation, the system utilizes either camera-based gestures, or data-glove inputs. The reverse translation is facilitated through a 3D avatar demonstrating the corresponding sign language for the input speech or text. Our findings demonstrate the system’s translation accuracy and its potential to empower HOH and mute individuals in various communication scenarios.

Detection of aerial vehicles is a challenging task. Over time, the significance of developing such vehicles has increased rapidly. However, an utmost concern arises from the potential misuse of these small-sized vehicles in illicit activities such as unauthorized surveillance, smuggling contraband, or disrupting critical infrastructure significant security threats. Recognizing the gravity of this issue, we have opted to introduce an innovative approach to automate the detection processes for aerial vehicles. This initiative aims to deploy effective drone detection systems to mitigate risks and safeguard against illegal activities. We put use to two datasets from GitHub depot. Cepstral, spectral, and time domain features were extracted from the data, followed by classification. We conducted two experiments, with the first (Drone, No-Drone) yielding 98.6% accuracy, using the Ensemble (Bagged Trees) classifier. The second set of experimentation addressed five classes: Background Noises, Bebop Drone, Drone, Helicopter, and Mambo Drone. Ensemble (Bagged trees) again outperformed all other classifiers and achieved 98.3% accuracy. The results highlight that our proposed framework gives effective results based on audio signals of different aerial vehicles. © 2024 IEEE.

Microstrip patch antennas are widely utilized in WLAN applications, and body-centric wireless communication relies on multiple network links to get messages through. But the existing antenna size is big with less bandwidth, which increases the cost. This paper has taken a rigorous approach to design an antenna that will provide a single resonant frequency at the targeted bandwidth (2.45GHz). The patch size in the proposed antenna is 28mm by 27mm and energized by a 50 ohm microstrip feed line with dimensions 3.137mm by 18.35mm. The dielectric substrate of permittivity E r = 4.3 is used in the fabrication process. The optimal size and other antenna characteristics are found by finite difference time domain method based CST Studio Suite. Other parameters like return loss, input impedance, and bandwidth of the microstrip patch antennas are calculated using VNA and WATS software to verify the proposed work. Finally, the proposed slot-loaded antenna attains an improved bandwidth and gain while providing a single resonant frequency.

EBV: Electronic Bee-Veterinarian for Principled Mining and Forecasting of Honeybee Time Series

Honeybees are vital for pollination and food production. Among many factors, extreme temperature (e.g., due to climate change) is particularly dangerous for bee health. Anticipating such extremities would allow beekeepers to take early preventive action. Thus, given sensor (temperature) time series data from beehives, how can we find patterns and do forecasting? Forecasting is crucial as it helps spot unexpected behavior and thus issue warnings to the beekeepers. In that case, what are the right models for forecasting? ARIMA, RNNs, or something else? We propose the EBV (Electronic Bee-Veterinarian) method, which has the following desirable properties: (i) principled: it is based on a) diffusion equations from physics and b) control theory for feedback-loop controllers;(ii) effective: it works well on multiple, real-world time sequences, (iii) explainable: it needs only a handful of parameters (e.g., bee strength) that beekeepers can easily understand and trust, and (iv) scalable: it performs linearly in time. We applied our method to multiple real-world time sequences, and found that it yields accurate forecasting (up to 49% improvement in RMSE compared to baselines), and segmentation. Specifically, discontinuities detected by EBV mostly coincide with domain expert’s opinions, showcasing our approach’s potential and practical feasibility. Moreover, EBV is scalable and fast, taking about 20 minutes on a stock laptop for reconstructing two months of sensor data. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Amid the rising demand for efficient processors, the challenge has always been to reduce power consumption without compromising performance. FinFET technology has significantly reduced leakage power issues, but dynamic power consumption at lower nodes has reemerged as a concern. Methodologies such as power/clock gating, DVFS, and voltage biasing have been proposed in the past. However, next-generation complex SoC designs at < 7nm technology require rethinking at finer granularity. The power gating methodology proposed by You et al., Roy et al., and PG-instr algorithm [1] reduce power consumption but have performance drawbacks. These techniques cause at least a 2% drop in performance in terms of wake-up latency. Moreover, You et al. and Roy et al. only considered idle time, while PG-instr focuses solely on energy savings. None of them balance idle time and energy savings together, which is crucial for achieving the best performance with low power consumption.

Many important fields rely on accurate rainfall predictions, including agriculture, water resource management, and emergency preparation. The many nonlinear interactions included in weather data are notoriously difficult for traditional approaches to grasp. Agriculture, water resource management, and disaster preparation are just a few of the many sectors that might benefit greatly from accurate rainfall predictions. Because meteorological data is both complicated and dynamic, traditional methods often get it wrong. Recent years have seen encouraging results in the use of machine learning (ML) approaches, especially ensemble models, to enhance the precision and consistency of precipitation forecasts. This research provides a new method for predicting precipitation using an ensemble of ML models. The ensemble model EERP algorithm combines the predictions of numerous base learners to create a more reliable and accurate forecast. Decision trees, random forests, gradient boosting machines, neural networks, and other ML approaches serve as the ensemble’s base learners. Assess the effectiveness of the proposed approach and then compare it with some existing classifiers in which the proposed classifier gave the best accuracy when compared with the other i.e., 96 %.

In this paper, the problem of fault estimation and localization in the connecting dynamic elements of distributed heating and cooling systems are treated. The fault represents the physical parameter change related to the heat transfer between the system and the external environment. First, based on the bi-linear dynamic state space model of the system in the presence of a fault, structural observability analysis using Signed Directed Graph (SDG) has been performed to investigate the sensor placement problem. Then, a nonlinear observer with a parameter adaptation algorithm was proposed for fault estimation. The simulation results show that it can successfully detect and estimate the fault. Fault localization along the length of the element has also been attempted, but it has been found that the localization cannot be performed using practically changeable input variables. Frequency domain analysis is presented to discuss this phenomenon. © 2022 ACM.

With the growth of online shopping, organizations should update their portals and websites in response to changing conditions and competitors' actions. To attract and retain online customers, various tools such as reputation building, trust en-hancement, and gamification are utilized and reinforced. This study has investigated 243 users of DigiKala company through paper and electronic questionnaires. Due to the non-normality of the data, non-parametric statistical methods using SPSS and Smart-PLS3.0 software were employed to analyze structural relationships. Additionally, machine learning tools were utilized to optimize the analysis of customer behavior and identify patterns for effective customer retention strategies. The results show that contrary to the research background, the use of gamification on DigiKala's website has not had a positive and significant impact on customers using this company's website and their repurchase intention. Thus, it seems that DigiKala should focus on context and infrastructures, while simultaneously strengthening and revamping gamification dimensions. © 2023 IEEE.
