Suitable and Style-Consistent Multi-Texture Recommendation for Cartoon Illustrations

Texture plays an important role in cartoon illustrations to display object materials and enrich visual experiences. Unfortunately, manually designing and drawing an appropriate texture is not easy even for proficient artists, let alone novice or amateur people. While there exist tons of textures on the Internet, it is not easy to pick an appropriate one using traditional text-based search engines. Although several texture pickers have been proposed, they still require the users to browse the textures by themselves, which is still labor-intensive and time-consuming. In this article, an automatic texture recommendation system is proposed for recommending multiple textures to replace a set of user-specified regions in a cartoon illustration with visually pleasant look. Two measurements, the suitability measurement and the style-consistency measurement, are proposed to make sure that the recommended textures are suitable for cartoon illustration and at the same time mutually consistent in style. The suitability is measured based on the synthesizability, cartoonity, and region fitness of textures. The style-consistency is predicted using a learning-based solution since it is subjective to judge whether two textures are consistent in style. An optimization problem is formulated and solved via the genetic algorithm. Optical Head-Mounted Displays (OHMDs) allow users to read digital content while walking. A better understanding of how users allocate attention between these two tasks is crucial for improving OHMD interfaces. This paper introduces a computational model for simulating users' attention switches between reading and walking. We model users' decision to deploy visual attention as a hierarchical reinforcement learning problem, wherein a supervisory controller optimizes attention allocation while considering both reading activity and walking safety. Our model simulates the control of eye movements and locomotion as an adaptation to the given task priority, design of digital content, and walking speed. The model replicates key multitasking behaviors during OHMD reading while walking, including attention switches, changes in reading and walking speeds, and reading resumptions. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s)

Large Language Models (LLMs) are at the forefront of technological evolution, significantly enhancing digital interactions and automating complex processes across various sectors. While these models facilitate advancements in data analytics, content generation, and strategic decision-making, their opaque nature poses challenges regarding user trust and model comprehension. Addressing the critical need for transparency, this paper focuses on enhancing LLM explainability. We propose a framework to demystify the internal mechanisms of these models, facilitating a deeper understanding that aligns with stringent ethical standards. Our approach integrates advanced explanatory tools that elucidate model decisions and foster accountability and fairness in Artificial Intelligence applications. Ensuring the security of confidential information is a daunting task for any concerned authority. Proving the authenticity and integrity of exam question papers is a prime responsibility of examination authorities. Storing and sharing question papers on open networks makes them vulnerable to unauthorized access and alterations. The proposed approach redefines question paper management using the Interplanetary File System (IPFS) and blockchain technology, providing a secure, decentralized, and tamper-resistant platform. This solution addresses long-standing challenges and ensures security, accessibility, and data integrity, establishing new standards for examination management. A user-friendly text editor in the framework allows paper setters to create, modify, and format questions effortlessly while preserving content integrity. The integration of this editor streamlines question paper preparation and enhances both efficiency and security. By leveraging a decentralized framework, the proposed solution ensures that the critical tasks of any concerned authority are handled securely and efficiently, overcoming limitations of conventional methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Microstrip patch antennas are widely utilized in WLAN applications, and body-centric wireless communication relies on multiple network links to get messages through. But the existing antenna size is big with less bandwidth, which increases the cost. This paper has taken a rigorous approach to design an antenna that will provide a single resonant frequency at the targeted bandwidth (2.45GHz). The patch size in the proposed antenna is 28mm by 27mm and energized by a 50 ohm microstrip feed line with dimensions 3.137mm by 18.35mm. The dielectric substrate of permittivity Er = 4.3 is used in the fabrication process. The optimal size and other antenna characteristics are found by finite difference time domain method based CST Studio Suite. Other parameters like return loss, input impedance, and bandwidth of the microstrip patch antennas are calculated using VNA and WATS software to verify the proposed work. Finally, the proposed slot-loaded antenna attains an improved bandwidth and gain while providing a single resonant frequency. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper discuss about the scheduling problem for flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using the genetic algorithm. In FMSs, the operation of a job is performed on more than one machine. Therefore, FMS scheduling is considered to be a computationally hard problem. In this paper, various approaches are reviewed that are applied to the FMS scheduling problem. This paper also attempts to find a possible solution to the scheduling problem of FMS. To identify the order in which the various jobs would be assigned to a number of machines, this paper uses a genetic algorithm with Simulated Annealing to generate a machine sequence. In this, the developed tool requires tabular input. To obtain a schedule with minimum make span, many iterations of the genetic algorithm are applied. In this system, an optimal schedule is given for FMS by taking the makespan time and minimum penalty cost, and therefore calculating the minimum combined objective function. © 2024 IEEE.

Discovering emerging entities (EEs) is the problem of finding entities before their establishment. These entities can be critical for individuals, companies, and governments. Many of these entities can be discovered on social media platforms, e.g. Twitter. These identities have been the spot of research in academy and industry in recent years. Similar to any machine learning problem, data availability is one of the major challenges in this problem. This paper proposes EEPT that is an online clustering method able to discover EEs without any need for training on a dataset. Additionally, due to the lack of a proper evaluation metric, this paper uses a new metric to evaluate the results. The results show that EEPT is promising and finds significant entities before their establishment. © 2023 IEEE.

Finance forecasting is always known for its ever-changing and complex nature in geopolitical markets, requiring advanced analytical tools to provide valuable deep insights for financial advisors, investors, and vital decision-makers. In this study, we delve into the realm of both quantitative analysis and forecasting in finance-related markets, utilizing sophisticated techniques to enhance our understanding of the markets. Our study focuses on the innovative utilization of the Optimized Wavelet Packet Transform (WPT), an advanced tool for processing signals, to uncover complex patterns within financial time series data through quantitative analysis using Plotly's interactive line charts. It bridges the gap between quantitative analysis and forecasting. It also reaches an accuracy rate of 99.5%, which is considered the best among the other prediction models. These insights help stakeholders and advisors navigate the ever-evolving landscape of financial markets and make decisions wisely. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents the preliminary results of our investigation in detecting negative road objects such as potholes and cracks in real-time for autonomous vehicles in order to improve safety. It is important to not only detect the existence of the negative road object from a safe distance, but also to identify the size, dept., and shape of such objects which plays a critical role in determining if the object must be avoided for safety or it can be ignored. We utilized open-source image databases such as ROBOFLOW (pothole) and RDD2020 of negative road objects for training a single layer convolutional neural network (CNN), such as YOLO. To test the trained algorithm, a small data set taken on the city streets in Indianapolis, IN was used in order to evaluate the accuracy of detection of the negative road objects. While the initial results show the ability of detecting the negative road objects through the proposed algorithm, more work needs to be done to improve the overall accuracy of detection with respect to size and shape of these negative road objects. Stress significantly affects the learning, academic performance, and health of university students. Traditional detection methods often rely on subjective self-reports, that can be stigmatized. In this study, we developed an electroencephalography (EEG)-based system to offer a more objective approach to chronic stress assessment. Fourteen participants (aged 24-35) were evaluated using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Trier Inventory for Chronic Stress (TICS), with EEG data collected during resting and cognitive tasks (i.e., the Stroop color word test). The study aimed to identify the most effective brain regions and EEG features for chronic stress detection. Data analysis involved feature extraction, normalization, classification, and regression to build and assess detection models. The results indicated no significant differences among resting state, cognitive task, and perturbation signals in the classification of chronic stress levels. Resting-state signals were more effective, with logistic regression, support vector machine classifier (i.e., SVC), and random forest classifiers achieving accuracies of 93.35%, 93.26%, and 94.69%, respectively. Furthermore, the EEG-based regression models estimated PSS and TICS scores with high accuracy, with adjusted R2 values exceeding 0.90, particularly for PSS. Contributive EEG features for chronic stress detection included gamma in the frontal, central, and parietal regions, as well as beta in the frontal and parietal regions. Limitations related to the sample size and circadian rhythm control were acknowledged, suggesting the need for future research with larger samples and varied recording schedules. © 2024 IEEE.
