Embedded systems tightly serve the needs of consumer electronics, home automation and portable devices. During the period of developing embedded systems, code generation is always seen a design challenge because every embedded processor has its own specific characteristic. In this paper, we propose a retargetable code generation (RCG) methodology which can generate retargetable C program for embedded processors. In addition, the generated code is further verified for time constraint with the global time, local time and kernel time. Finally, two design examples namely normal traffic light controller (NTLC) and four phases stepping motor control (FPSMC) are used to illustrate the feasibility in the embedded platform.

Abstract Due to stringent environmental regulations, wastewater treatment plants are always challenged to meet new constraints in terms of water pollution prevention. In such an effort, the number of sensors and data available in the plants have increased considerably during the last decades. However, the quality of the collected data and the sensor reliability are often poor mainly due to the hostile environment in which the measurement equipment has to function. In this work, we present the design of an array of soft-sensors to estimate the nitrate concentration in the post-denitrification filter unit of the Viikinmäki wastewater treatment plant in Helsinki (Finland). The developed sensors aim at supporting the existing hardware analysers by providing a reliable back-up system in case of malfunction. After a careful selection of suitable observations and variables to be used for calibrating the estimation models, the experimental results show the accuracy of the developed soft-sensors and their potential for an on-line implementation in the plant's control system.

Abstract Soft-sensors for estimating in real-time important quality variables are a key technology in modern process industry. The successful development of a soft-sensor whose performance does not deteriorate with time and changing process characteristics is troublesome and only seldom achieved in real-world setups. The design of soft-sensors based on local regression models is becoming popular. Simplicity of calibration, ability to handle nonlinearities and, most importantly, reduced maintenance costs while retaining the requested accuracy are the major assets. In this paper, we introduce several approaches for defining an appropriate locality neighborhood and we propose a recursive version of local linear regression for soft-sensor design. To support the presentation, we discuss the results in designing a soft-sensor for estimating the ethane concentration from the bottom of a full-scale deethanizer.

In this work we build the first BI-RADS parser for Portuguese free texts, modeled after existing approaches to extract BI-RADS features from English medical records. Our concept finder uses a semantic grammar based on the BI-RADS lexicon and on iterative transferred expert knowledge. We compare the performance of our algorithm to manual annotation by a specialist in mammography. Our results show that our parser's performance is comparable to the manual method.
