To address the scalability problem in attack graphs generation, we propose a novel method to generate attack graphs automatically. Our approach constructs a two-tier attack graph framework, which includes a host access graph and some sub-attack graphs. A subattack graph describes concrete attack scenarios from one source host to one target host, while the host access graph describes the attacker's privilege transition among hosts. Our sub-attack graphs and host access graph have remarkable smaller scales and can help network administrators to find the key hosts in attack sequences. Analysis shows that the upper bound computational cost of our model is O(N3), which could also be competed in real time. The following experiment validates our approach.

The basic operation of Delay Tolerant Sensor Network (DTSN) is to finish pervasive data gathering in networks with intermittent connectivity, while the publish/subscribe (Pub/Sub for short) paradigm is used to deliver events from a source to interested clients in an asynchronous way. Recently, to extend a Pub/Sub system in DTSN has become a promising topic. However, due to the unique characteristic of frequent partitioning in DTSN, to extend a Pub/Sub system in DTSN is a considerably difficult and challenging problem, and there is no good solution to it in existing works. To adapt Pub/Sub systems to DTSN, we propose CED, a community-based event delivery protocol. In our design, event delivery is based on several unchanged communities, which are formed by sensor nodes in the network according to their connectivity. CED consists of two components: Event delivery and queue management. In event delivery, events in a community are delivered to mobile subscribers once a subscriber comes into the community, for improving the data delivery ratio. The queue management employs both the event successful delivery time and the event survival time to decide whether an event should be delivered or dropped for minimizing the transmission overhead. The effectiveness of CED is demonstrated through comprehensive simulation studies. © 2009 IEEE.

The aim of this paper is to present a new mobile decision support web service applied to improve the customer satisfaction in decision making situations related with m-commerce. The application is included as a new mobile web service under a social net framework such as web 2.0. It allows that users with the same user profile that the potential customer can act as a set of shop assistants that advices him/her according with their experiences. To facilitate the system-user interaction the service uses computing with words tools and implements an ease to use mobile interface. Therefore, users can provide their advice at anytime and anywhere by using their own mobile devices. © 2009 The authors and IOS Press. All rights reserved.

We present an automatic query expansion approach by generalizing the vector space model of information retrieval. In this framework, the images are presented by vectors of weighted concepts similar to the keyword-based representation in the text retrieval domain. The concepts comprise of color and texture patches from local image regions in a multi-dimensional feature space. To generate the concept vocabularies and represent the images, statistical model is built by utilizing a multi-class Support Vector Machine (SVM)-based classification technique. For automatic query expansion, the correlations between concepts are analyzed based on the neighborhood proximity between the concepts in encoded images by considering the local feedback information. The experimental results on a photographic image collection demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed query expansion approaches. Copyright 2009 ACM.

Reputation systems are very useful in large online communities in which users may frequently have the opportunity to interact with users with whom they have no prior experience. Recently, how to enhance the cooperative behaviors in the reputation system that has became to one of the key open issues. Research in the evolutionary game theory shows that the group selection or multilevel selection can favor the cooperation in the finite populations. Furthermore, Nowak et al., in [1], [2] give a fundamental condition for the evolution of cooperation by group *** on the above important result, we extend the group selection concept in evolutionary biology and propose a group-based mechanism to enhance cooperation for online reputation systems. © 2009 IEEE.

The apparent paradoxes of multipresence, having avatars in multiple places simultaneously, are resolvable by an 'autofocus' feature, which uses reciprocity to project overlaid soundscapes and simulate the precedence effect to consolidate the display. We have developed an interface for narrowcasting functions for networked mobile devices deployed in a Collaborative Virtual Environment. Featuring multiple icons in a '2.5D' application, the interface can be used to control motion, sensitivity, and audibility of avatars in a teleconference. The interface is integrated with other clients through a 'servent' (server/client hybrid) HTTP-TCP/IP bridge, interoperating with a heterogeneous groupware suite including stereographic panoramic browsers and spatial audio backends and speaker arrays. Infrastructure management (and its associated processes) is complex to understand, perform and thus, hard to make efficient and effective informed decisions. The management involves a multi-faceted operation that requires the most robust data fusion, visualization and decision making. In order to protect and build sustainable critical assets, we present our on-going multi-disciplinary large-scale project that establishes the Integrated Remote Sensing and Visualization (IRSV) system with a focus on supporting bridge structure inspection and management. This project involves specific expertise from civil engineers, computer scientists, geographers, and real-world practitioners from industry, local and federal government agencies. IRSV is being designed to accommodate the essential needs from the following aspects: 1) Better understanding and enforcement of complex inspection process that can bridge the gap between evidence gathering and decision making through the implementation of ontological knowledge engineering system;2) Aggregation, representation and fusion of complex multi-layered heterogeneous data (i.e. infrared imaging, aerial photos and ground-mounted LIDAR etc.) with domain application knowledge to support machine understandable recommendation system;3) Robust visualization techniques with large-scale analytical and interactive visualizations that support users' decision making;and 4) Integration of these needs through the flexible Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) framework to compose and provide services on-demand. IRSV is expected to serve as a management and data visualization tool for construction deliverable assurance and infrastructure monitoring both periodically (annually, monthly, even daily if needed) as well as after extreme events. © 2009 SPIE.

MIMO (multiple input multiple output) and OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) bringing along a number of pros; a combination of both stands a good possibility of being the next-generation (4th generation) of mobile wireless systems. The technology however imposes a challenge that is the increased complexity of channel equalization. Wireless channels are multipath fading channels, causing deformation in the signal. To remove the effect (imposed by channel) from received signal, the receiver needs to have knowledge of CIR (Channel impulse response) that is usually provided by a separate channel estimator. This paper is aimed at exploring the use of Neural Network (NN) as a tool for MIMO-OFDM channel estimation and compensation. The research attempts to gauges the usefulness of proposed system by analyzing different algorithms to train NN. Further to ascertain the performance of the proposed technique; length of the known training sequence has been varied over a reasonable range and observations are made. Finally, the results obtained by using different algorithms for training NN have been compared with each-other and against the traditional least squares channel estimator, which along with observations/comments form part of the paper.

Image segmentation is a technique that partitioned the input image into prerequisite semantic unique regions. Segmentation should stop as object of interest in an application is isolated. The ultimate goal is to make the image more simplified one and that to get more meaningful to analyze. Number of segmentation techniques are available but none of them satisfy the global properties and thus remain challenge for researcher. Many computer applications like object recognition, automatic pictorial pattern recognition, automatic traffic control are based on this analysis. As per need of an application segmentation techniques can be selected. This survey addressed various segmentation techniques, discussed fundamental methodologies, and issues related with specific techniques. It discussed its limitations and probable solution to recover it. It also includes discussion on segmentation technique based on graph partitioning which would be helpful to add intelligence for prediction. Concept of ontology is introduced in short as technical bridge in between segmentation and image prediction.

Searching for supermaximal repeats in large DNA sequences

We study the problem of finding supermaximal repeats in large DNA sequences. For this, we propose an algorithm called SMR which uses an auxiliary index structure (POL), which is derived from and replaces the suffix tree index STTD64 [1]. The results of our numerous experiments using the 24 human chromosomes data indicate that SMR outperforms the solution provided as part of the Vmatch [2] software tool. In searching for supermaximal repeats of size at least 10 bases, SMR is twice faster than Vmatch;for a minimum length of 25 bases, SMR is 7 times faster;and for repeats of length at least 200, SMR is about 9 times faster. We also study the cost of POL in terms of time and space requirements. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2008.
