This paper emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in exploring the concept of robot gender within Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). It draws on a case study of the authors' own collaboration, where interdisciplinary discussions on the nature of gender informed the design of a multimethod study. This approach allowed us to avoid assigning a binary gender to Pepper robot, while still encouraging participants to reflect on their own gendering practices during interactions with robots. Additionally, we invite readers to consider alternative ways of conceptualizing robot gender in HRI—specifically, as fluid and performative rather than binary, which relies on stereotypical cues. After describing how our discussions on gender influenced and reshaped the study design, we offer practical advice on fostering interdisciplinary collaborations. These suggestions focus on communication strategies, mindset, and the practical setup of collaborative studies. We hope that these recommendations will inspire other researchers to continue exploring new and interdisciplinary ways of approaching robot gender in HRI.

The surge of interest in artificial intelligence systems has sparked new directions of research in the realm of music data analysis. At the same time, the exploration and exploitation of intrinsic musical structures and sequences, a timeless endeavor, continue to captivate scholars and practitioners alike. In this context, the fusion of computational techniques with music analysis emerges as a natural progression. One of the pivotal crossroads in this convergence is the identification of musical phrase boundaries, pivotal demarcations that underpin the organizational fabric of a musical composition. This article pioneers an inventive approach to address the challenge of detecting these musical phrase boundaries, harnessing the power of artificial neural networks. However, the innovation does not stop there; the pinpointed phrase boundaries undergo a comprehensive dissection utilizing pattern mining techniques. The focus of this analysis is on unveiling recurrent motifs and classifying phrases into coherent clusters, predicated on the repetitions and similarities exposed through these neural network-driven techniques. This exploration was conducted using an extensive repository of folk songs, a treasure trove of foundational musical expressions that indelibly shape the stylistic contours of musical compositions. We claim that the presented approach not only opens avenues for penetrating and nuanced analysis, but also enriches our comprehension of the intricate interplay of musical components and their manifestations inspired by neural networks.

Electronic Dental Records (EDRs) provides a solid ground for enhancing data exchange in the field of dentistry. Implementing blockchain technology into EDRs permits decentralization and easy collaboration among dental clinics and laboratories, eventually improving data security and the data exchange processes across various organizations. Traditional EDR systems that exist nowadays face challenges related to data security, integrity, and interoperability, which can affect effective collaboration and comprehensive patient care. To mitigate these issues, the research community is actively looking at blockchain technology as a viable solution due to its decentralized, secure, and transparent nature. Our research work introduces a blockchain-based system that enables dentists to securely store patient EDRs on the Hyperledger Fabric blockchain. Our study aims to enable secure sharing of patient data between different organizations, prioritizing patient consent. By utilizing both off-chain and on-chain storage for various types of data, including text, images, and radiographs, and by implementing smart contracts, we ensure the storage of data securely and ease the communication between organizations for sharing of data between them.

The mobile industry is one of the rapidly growing markets in the world. This has created a unique platform for delivering mobile network-based social and financial services. Mobile banking is the best and last banking platform that provides value-added services anytime and anywhere with a reduction in effort, time, and money. However, there is a decrease in the adoption rate of these services in Arabian countries, including Saudi Arabia. Although there have been several studies to determine factors influencing the adoption of these services worldwide, few studies have been done in this part of the world. This paper considers the current literature on mobile banking to investigate the factors that increase mobile banking adoption in Saudi Arabia. We propose a new integrative model for mobile banking adoption (IMMBA) that combines and expands the IS Success and UTAUT2 models to include factors that account for Perceived Trust, Perceived Privacy, and Perceived Compatibility. IMMBA provides a comprehensive analysis of the current challenges of mobile banking adoption in Saudi Arabia. Identifying the factors that affect mobile banking adoption and understanding the relationships between them will help banks, particularly in Saudi Arabia, to lay a roadmap for the proper implementation of it following the perceptions of their customers. © 2021 IEEE.

Quality Assurance for LLM-RAG Systems: Empirical Insights from Tourism Application Testing

This paper presents a comprehensive framework for testing and evaluating quality characteristics of Large Language Model (LLM) systems enhanced with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) in tourism applications. Through systematic empirical evaluation of three different LLM variants across multiple parameter configurations, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our testing methodology in assessing both functional correctness and extra-functional properties. Our framework implements 17 distinct metrics that encompass syntactic analysis, semantic evaluation, and behavioral evaluation through LLM judges. The study reveals significant information about how different architectural choices and parameter configurations affect system performance, particularly highlighting the impact of temperature and top-p parameters on response quality. The tests were carried out on a tourism recommendation system for the Värmland region, utilizing standard and RAG-enhanced configurations. The results indicate that the newer LLM versions show modest improvements in performance metrics, though the differences are more pronounced in response length and complexity rather than in semantic quality. The research contributes practical insights for implementing robust testing practices in LLM-RAG systems, providing valuable guidance to organizations deploying these architectures in production environments. One major goal of digital twin technology applied in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Industry is the mapping of roads and road environments with their associated information. Such digital twins can support cost-effective testing, simulations, and the production of mapping backgrounds for automated vehicles and generally for Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) developments. The efficient workflow that leads from data acquisition to finished products depends on a number of requirements and knowledge sets. The main contribution of the paper is a general methodology of creating HD-map from point cloud and image data set. Accordingly, the most widely used survey techniques are presented and the requirements for the objects to be derived are summarized. The paper then outlines a general implementation procedure as an expert knowledge through a real-life example, where the results obtained for the ZalaZONE Automotive Proving Ground are demonstrated. © 2023 IEEE.

Automated hair removal in dermoscopy images using shallow and deep learning neural architectures

Removing hair from digital dermoscopy images is occasionally a necessary step before further analysis is applied to the images. This work considers two machine learning approaches that segment the hair pixels from dermoscopy images. Subsequently, morphological post-processing is applied to refine the segmented hair and an image inpainting algorithm replaces the hair pixels with values based on the surrounding image structures. The first hair segmentation approach combines pixel-wise features extracted using the well-known Gaussian image pyramid with a traditional shallow multilayer perceptron (MLP-ANN), to detect hair pixels in images. The second approach uses a deep neural convolutional Encoder – Decoder (ED) network to segment hair. Both hair segmentation methods (MLP-ANN and ED) are trained with a set of 32 dermoscopy images with manually annotated hair, whereas the MLP-ANN dataset is constructed in a pixel-wise manner. Both proposed methods underwent three different assessments. First a set of 50 images with a-priori known hair is used for hair segmentation evaluation. Secondly, a set of 13 different dermoscopy images with hair added using a suitably trained Generative Adversarial Network -GAN- are used to assess the quality of hair removal that generates the hair-free image, in terms of several error metrics with respect to the original hair-free image. Finally, both proposed hair segmentation methods (MLP-ANN and ED) are applied on a set of 200 hair and hair-free images, which is used for training an image classifier to recognize melanoma against nevi lesions and the improvement in the image classification accuracy is measured. Comparative results against several other state-of-the-art hair removal techniques are also presented. Results show that in terms of hair removal, both the proposed hair removal techniques outperform the best performing of the state-of-the-art methods under comparison, in terms of several error metrics. In quantum computing, although correspondences between quantum circuits and polynomials have been explored, a correspondence between a quantum circuit and a low-degree polynomial, even a linear function has not fully clarified. In this paper, a quantum circuit approximating a linear function for building piecewise linear functions, is proposed. First, for qubit operations, a dimensionless form in $[0,1]$ of a linear function is provided. Secondly, a theorem of a parameterized quantum circuit approximating linear functions are provided. Thirdly, by using Yao: an open source Julia package, the quantum circuit simulation results to approximate the linear functions are presented. Finally, the principal results are summarized.

Despite the proliferation of educational programmes in Health informatics (HI) worldwide, there is limited knowledge regarding students' preferences and learning strategies in HI courses. To address this gap, we conducted a study to gather and analyse data from three HI courses. Employing the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) and theories of deep and surface learning, we designed a questionnaire to collect data. The analysis of students' responses indicates that machine learning emerges as one of the most interesting topics, while certain topics such as data wrangling of genomics data were more challenging for students. Students expressed a preference for sequential learning. They exhibited multimodal tendencies regarding the type of learning resources, with tendency to prefer learning resources that have more visual contents. In all three courses, learners reported using deep learning strategy rather than surface learning, yet they appear to struggle with employing organisation, elaboration, and peer learning tactics. This study provides valuable insights into HI education, offering recommendations for educators, learners, and researchers to enhance HI education. © 2024 The Authors.
