data augmentation plays a crucial role in deep learning-based medical imaging analysis, but manually designing tailored data augmentation strategies for each dataset is impractical. Although automatic data augmentation (ADA) techniques have been explored, they often focus solely on data augmentation without considering the importance of neural architecture. Similarly, neural architecture search (NAS) methods mainly concentrate on optimizing the neural architecture while overlooking the impact of data augmentation. However, both data augmentation and neural architecture are interrelated and should be considered together. The joint optimization of data augmentation and neural architecture can lead to improved model performance by harnessing the complementary effects of customized data augmentation strategies and compatible neural architectures. Despite this, the seamless integration of data augmentation and neural architecture search remains under-explored. To address this research gap, we propose MedPipe, an approach that enables end-to-end joint search of data augmentation and neural architecture. We introduce a compact data augmentation search space and unify data augmentation and neural architecture into a cohesive network. This allows simultaneous exploration, optimizing their synergy for enhanced performance. Experimental evaluation on nine medical datasets highlights the necessity of the joint search for data augmentation and neural architecture, demonstrating the superior performance of our approach. Our work opens up possibilities for future applications in diverse medical domains. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, the emergence of the Internet and E-commerce has steered significant growth in digital transactions. Businesses today need mobile wallets, credit and debit cards, and e-cash to digitize payments. Digital payment systems are in transition and promise amazing advancements, but they also pose many risks and as the number of online transactions is increasing tremendously, we need a security system that follows all security norms. In this paper, we study digital transaction systems and evaluate various components of E-commerce plat-forms to address the security of these services. We evaluate the attributes that affect the security of digital payment processes and identify several barriers that hinder their performance to propose a simplified payment mechanism for micro-payments that eliminates the double payment problem. © 2023 IEEE.

Distributed quantum computing has become a potential way to solve hard computing problems by combining the power of many quantum devices that are connected to each other. But it's hard to make sure that distributed quantum computer nodes can trust each other, stay safe, and work together well. The decentralized and open nature of blockchain technology holds significant potential in addressing these challenges and revolutionizing the domain of distributed quantum computing. This scholarly essay examines the potential of blockchain technology in facilitating the coordination, resource sharing, and data management within distributed quantum computing networks, with a focus on ensuring safety and efficiency. We provide an overview of the primary advantages, challenges, and potential applications of integrating blockchain technology into distributed quantum computing frameworks. This has the potential to result in a quantum computing environment that is both more stable and scalable. The objective of this scholarly essay is to elucidate the potential impact of integrating blockchain technology into distributed quantum computing. Distributed quantum computing networks may effectively coordinate, share resources, and manage data by using the decentralized, transparent, and secure nature of blockchain technology. © 2024 IEEE.

Many multilingual communities, including numerous in Africa, frequently engage in code-switching during conversations. This behaviour stresses the need for natural language processing technologies adept.at processing code-switched text. However, data scarcity, particularly in African languages, poses a significant challenge, as many are low-resourced and under-represented. In this study, we prompted GPT 3.5 to generate Afrikaans–English and Yoruba–English code-switched sentences, enhancing diversity using topic-keyword pairs, linguistic guidelines, and few-shot examples. Our findings indicate that the quality of generated sentences for languages using non-Latin scripts, like Yoruba, is considerably lower when compared with the high Afrikaans–English success rate. There is therefore a notable opportunity to refine prompting guidelines to yield sentences suitable for the fine-tuning of language models. We propose a framework for augmenting the diversity of synthetically generated code-switched data using GPT and propose leveraging this technology to mitigate data scarcity in low-resourced languages, underscoring the essential role of native speakers in this process. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association.

Skin cancer is a prevalent and potentially fatal disease that requires early detection for effective treatment. We trained and evaluated five YOLOv8 classification model variants (YOLOv8n-cls, YOLOv8s-cls, YOLOv8m-cls, YOLOv8l-cls, and YOLOv8x-cls) on the HAM10000 dataset, which contains 10,015 dermatoscopic images of common pigmented skin lesions. The models were trained for 30 epochs using data augmentation techniques to enhance generalization. Performance was assessed using metrics including accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and inference time. The YOLOv8x-cls model achieved the highest accuracy of 86.2% and precision of 82.1%, while the YOLOv8lcls model demonstrated the best balance with the highest F1-score of 77.0%. Compared to previous ensemble approaches, our single YOLOv8 models achieved superior performance with lower computational overhead. The YOLOv8n-cls variant showed the fastest inference time of 0.5 ms, making it suitable for real-time applications. Our results demonstrate the potential of YOLOv8-based models for accurate and efficient skin lesion classification, which could aid in early skin cancer detection and improve patient outcomes. © 2024 IEEE.

Lay summarization aims to generate summaries of technical articles for non-experts, enabling easy comprehension for a general audience. The technical language used in research often hinders effective communication of scientific knowledge, making it difficult for non-experts to understand. Automatic lay summarization can enhance access to scientific literature, promoting interdisciplinary knowledge sharing and public understanding. This has become especially important for biomedical articles, given the current global need for clear medical information. Large Language Models (LLMs) (Yao et al., 2024), with their remarkable language understanding capabilities, are ideal for abstractive summarization, helping to make complex information accessible to the public. This paper details our submissions to the BioLaySumm 2024 Shared Task: Lay Summarization of Biomedical Research Articles (Goldsack et al., 2024). We fine-tune and evaluate sequence-to-sequence models like T5 across various training dataset settings and optimization methods such as LoRA (Hu et al., 2021b) for lay summarization. Artificial intelligence (AI) breakthroughs have created new opportunities in the field of medical diagnostics, especially for the early identification of respiratory conditions like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), the most prevalent respiratory condition, is characterized by breathing difficulties, mucus (sputum) coughing, and wheezing. Early verification is critical for efficient administration. A one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D CNN) model for COPD detection, optimized using Adam and RMSprop algorithms is proposed for this purpose. Utilizing the ICBHI 2017 dataset, the performance of each optimizer based on training and validation accuracy is evaluated. The Adam optimizer achieved a training accuracy of 9 4% and a validation accuracy of 9 0%. In comparison, the RMSprop optimizer yielded a training accuracy of 9 2% and a validation accuracy of 8 8%. These results demonstrated that the Adam optimizer surpassed RMSprop in terms of accuracy. It showcased the potential of the proposed 1D CNN model as a reliable diagnostic tool, contributing to the advancement of respiratory health analytics. © 2024 IEEE.

Amplification by subsampling is one of the main primitives in machine learning with differential privacy (DP): Training a model on random batches instead of complete datasets results in stronger privacy. This is traditionally formalized via mechanism-agnostic subsampling guarantees that express the privacy parameters of a subsampled mechanism as a function of the original mechanism's privacy parameters. We propose the first general framework for deriving mechanism-specific guarantees, which leverage additional information beyond these parameters to more tightly characterize the subsampled mechanism's privacy. Such guarantees are of particular importance for privacy accounting, i.e., tracking privacy over multiple iterations. Overall, our framework based on conditional optimal transport lets us derive existing and novel guarantees for approximate DP, accounting with Rényi DP, and accounting with dominating pairs in a unified, principled manner. As an application, we analyze how subsampling affects the privacy of groups of multiple users. Our tight mechanism-specific bounds outperform tight mechanism-agnostic bounds and classic group privacy results. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. All rights reserved.

The increasing need for high-speed internet for wireless devices has driven the development of 5G New Radio (NR) technology. The 5G NR operates in various spectrums such as sub-1 GHz, sub-6 GHz, and millimeter wave (mmWave) in the 26-28 GHz range. Conversely, the new standard Wi-Fi 6E operates on the unlicensed band and currently utilizes 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz. The coexistence of 5G NR sub-6 GHz and Wi-Fi 6E networks can result in interference and reduced performance for both technologies. To address this challenge, we introduce a Multi-Task Learning (MTL) approach using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to improve the coexistence of 5G and Wi-Fi 6E networks. This proposes identifying and classifying packets transmitted and its modulation over both types of networks. The MTL-CNN model is trained to classify packets based on their type (e.g., 5G or Wi-Fi) and to identify the specific protocol used within each packet. We confirm the accuracy of this method with Wi-Fi and 5G signals produced by the MATLAB waveform simulator and subsequently deploy it on a hardware testbed using SDR. Our experimental results show that this method improves the accuracy of packet identification and classification, thus enhancing the coexistence between 5G and Wi-Fi 6E networks. MTL-CNN potentially leads to more efficient use of the wireless spectrum and improves the overall performance of wireless communication systems. © 2024 IEEE.
