Lay summarization aims to generate summaries of technical articles for non-experts, enabling easy comprehension for a general audience. The technical language used in research often hinders effective communication of scientific knowledge, making it difficult for non-experts to understand. Automatic lay summarization can enhance access to scientific literature, promoting interdisciplinary knowledge sharing and public understanding. This has become especially important for biomedical articles, given the current global need for clear medical information. Large Language Models (LLMs) (Yao et al., 2024), with their remarkable language understanding capabilities, are ideal for abstractive summarization, helping to make complex information accessible to the public. This paper details our submissions to the BioLaySumm 2024 Shared Task: Lay Summarization of Biomedical Research Articles (Goldsack et al., 2024). We fine-tune and evaluate sequence-to-sequence models like T5 across various training dataset settings and optimization methods such as LoRA (Hu et al., 2021b) for lay summarization. Fake news continues to proliferate, posing an increasing threat to public discourse. The paper proposes a framework of a Mixture of Experts, Sentiment Analysis, and Sarcasm Detection experts for improved fake news detection. This approach captures the emotional cues in the text through a Sentiment Analysis expert, which is based on bidirectional encoder representations from Transformers (BERT) models with sentiment vectors generated using SentiWordNet and Integrated Gradients. It combines a sarcasm detection expert based on BERT, recognizing sarcasm and its type to help classify fake news. By fusing these experts through a Mixture of Experts gateway, subtle linguistic cues often found in fake news are more effectively analyzed, leading to improved accuracy in detecting misinformation. Experimental results are presented as 96% for the Sarcasm expert with the BERT base model and 83% for the Sentiment Analysis expert with the distilled version of the BERT (DistilBERT) base model, proving the effectiveness of the proposed approach in beating traditional methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Modern compilers often offer a variety of warning flags, which developers can enable to get feedback on code that, while syntactically correct, may be problematic. In the case of C++, one example of such 'correct but problematic' code is code that leads to undefined behavior (UB). The usage of compiler warnings has long been suspected as a way to decrease bugs and increase code quality. However, empirical evidence that supports this hypothesis is rare. In this study, we present evidence from a study of 127 open source C++ projects. We categorize their usage of compiler warnings into five groups based on which warning flags are being used, and analyse the relationship between compiler warnings and five quality metrics (bugs, critical issues, vulnerabilities, code smells, and technical debt) using Bayesian analysis. We conclude that, in general, compiler warnings indeed correlate with, and potentially cause, higher code quality, with the clearest impact being on the number of critical issues in a project. Using stricter warning flags expectantly correlates with higher code quality in our study objects. However, there are substantial differences between projects, which we attribute to the project's individual development culture. That is, while warnings matter, other factors such as quality culture, are likely to be even more important to source code quality. © 2024 ACM.

The proliferation of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) in various applications has necessitated the exploration of network architectures that can ensure efficient, scalable, and reliable communication. This study presents a comparative performance evaluation of traditional networking paradigms and Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-based architectures within WSN. Utilizing the Floodlight SDN controller and Mininet-WiFi emulator, we conducted a series of experiments across three different network topologies, varying the number of hosts and access points. The performance metrics focused on are average latency, packet loss percentage, and throughput. The results demonstrate a considerable improvement in all measured parameters under the SDN-based environment compared to the traditional setup. Specifically, SDN environments consistently showcased lower latency, minimal packet loss, and higher throughput, with the most notable difference observed in smaller network configurations. The findings suggest that SDN, with its centralized control plane, can significantly enhance the performance of WSNs, particularly in scenarios demanding rapid scalability and dynamic traffic management. This study underscores the potential of SDN architectures in optimizing WSN operations and lays the groundwork for future research in this domain. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. In addition to taking care of the normal citizens, Road Traffic protection is also one of the main issue for corporations governing the transportation. We use data mining techniques to get the hidden matter from the database. The applications of Data mining is there in various fields such as fraud detection, marketing and many more. Many countries were affected due to many decisions that were taken by the governments one such issue is globalization. This has brought some drastically changes in the intake level and the financial related activities and this has given a boost to transportation department. Understanding the importance of the street protection the authorities are putting effort to know the reasons behind the street accidents. The increase in the street injuries made it difficult to determine the limitations of the street injuries. This paper explains the street injuries frequency from analysing the database. An essential diagnostic technique for brain tumors, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) enables early detection and improved patient outcomes. However, manual interpretation of MRI scans can be time-consuming and subject to human error. Deep learning has revolutionized medical image analysis by providing automated and accurate classifications, significantly enhancing diagnostic processes. This study leverages the pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model Xception to classify MRI brain data, demonstrating its effectiveness in identifying brain tumors. The model was trained and validated using a diverse dataset, achieving a high test accuracy of 98.78% and training accuracy of 99.96%. These findings highlight the potential of the Xception model in supporting clinical decision-making and reducing diagnostic workloads. The study contributes to the field by showcasing Xception's implementation, dataset preparation, model design, training, and evaluation. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of using deep learning techniques for reliable and efficient brain tumor classification, setting the groundwork for future advancements in automated diagnostic systems. © 2025 IEEE.

Plant diseases pose significant challenges to the agricultural sector, leading to decreased crop production and financial losses. Mango, being a popular fruit worldwide, is susceptible to various leaf diseases. Traditional diagnosis of these disorders requires labor-intensive and time-consuming manual picture interpretation. To address this issue, deep learning models have been utilized to enhance the precision and effectiveness of identifying leaf illness in mango crops. In this study, ResNet50, ResNext50, Convnet, and Conventv2 deep learning models were compared to find the most successful approach. The results demonstrated that the Conventv2 model achieved the highest accuracy of 98.21%. The major aim of the research work is improvising sustainable agricultural practices by leveraging advanced technology for accurate plant disease classification. The findings have implications for improving mango crop management and ensuring a more sustainable and efficient agricultural industry. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid expansion of 5G networks and the increased focus on user experience has resulted in the growth of Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) at the edge of wireless networks. The indeterministic workloads handled by MEC often lead to overloaded applications. Services migrations are performed in MEC to manage the application performance, potentially minimising the impact on the user's Quality of Experience (QoE). While prior research on application migrations in MEC has primarily focused on subscriber mobility, energy management, and resource optimisation, a gap exists in understanding how these migrations impact application performance in MEC environments with stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs). This research proposes a new approach for service migrations in MEC based on dynamic service prioritisation. The proposed Dynamic Service Prioritisation Algorithm (DSPA). uses a variable application performance watermark to trigger migrations, enabling MEC infrastructure to dynamically adapt to indeterministic workloads. DSPA selects services for migration by optimally balancing service load and migration time parameters. Through extensive simulations, our study proves that DSPA is best suited for managing the performance of diverse applications hosted in MEC. DSPA exhibited superior performance in minimising SLA violations and mitigating user experience impact during service migrations compared to other contemporary algorithms. © 2024 IEEE.

Epidermal ridges are crucial for tactile sensing in both human fingers and synthetic sensors. These ridges are made of compliant materials and susceptible to abrasion damage after iterative use. This study focuses on examining the impact of sensor ridge damage on the acquired signal, which encompasses a broad range of frequency components. We compared the frequency responses of a tactile sensor scanning sandpaper with both intact and damaged sensors. The degradation of signal levels was evident across the 0-1,000 Hz range, with particularly prominent suppression of the peak frequency component. This study demonstrates the frequency-dependent influence of ridge abrasion. © 2024 IEEE.
