Cardiac arrest (CA) survivors often suffer secondary brain injury due to impaired autonomic nervous system (reflected by heart rate HR) and hemodynamic function (reflected by blood pressure BP and baroreflex regulation). This study proposes a Dual Poincaré Plot, a novel method analyzing coupled variability in HR - BP dynamics to assess these impairments. Ten rats were categorized into good and poor neurological outcome groups in a rat model of CA. Dual Poincaré plot analysis, squared partial directed coherence, and sequence method were used to characterize the outcome. Results revealed differences in variability of HR, BP, and baroreflex, as well as coupling strength, between groups. Good outcome subjects exhibited 1) increased variability in both BP and HR, 2) enhanced baroreflex regulation, and 3) weakened cardiovascular coupling. Conversely, subjects with poor outcomes displayed 1) decreased HR-BP variability, 2) impaired baroreflex, and 3) stronger coupling. The Baroreflex Index from the Dual Poincaré plot showed a high correlation with the traditional sequence method (R2 = 0.91). These results imply that Dual Poincaré offers a real-time assessment of autonomic-hemodynamic interaction, effectively stratifying post-CA neurological recovery and potentially enhancing prognostic accuracy for timely interventions. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a current sensorless permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive scheme based on deadbeat predictive control in which a space vector pulse modulator is introduced for feedback currents to track reference currents accurately. Current sensors are omitted by replacing actual currents with predicted currents, thus only a position sensor is needed and a low-cost servo system is achieved. PI control is adopted for the speed loop. Simulation comparisons between control with current sensors and current sensorless control under external disturbances or parameter inconsistency are conducted to indicate that the performance of current sensorless control is almost the same as that of control with current sensors when the prediction model is accurate.

State-of-the-art research shows that sink mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) can prolong the lifetime of the WSN network. We have proposed an algorithm to automatically calculate the no. of partitions (k) of WSN. Each sink will move in every partition in such a way that it will visit every data collection site within the tolerance limit of every sensor nodes under the single-hop communication range of that site. A sink is placed within each partition of WSN and trajectory with data collection sites of each sink within each partition is determined in such a way that each and every sensor node should be able to send its data to its own sink directly with single-hop communication when the sink is at the site which is within communication range of it. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm generates different no. of partitions with different tolerance limits providing total coverage of sensor nodes in the WSN.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv6 (DHCPv6) is susceptible to DHCPv6 starvation attack due to the lack of authentication and security mechanisms. RSA authentication was proposed to secure DHCPv6 which increases the DHCPv6 packet size by adding certificate option. Moreover, suggested method generates digital signatures using SHA-1, which is vulnerable to hash collision attack. Cryptography encryption based DHCPv6 server was suggested which is very difficult to deploy since it takes longer to process DHCPv6 requests and consumes more hardware resources. Finally, MAC address whitelisting based DHCPv6 client authentication was introduced which can be easily evaded by MAC spoofing attacks. Therefore, the objective of this study is to propose a secured DHCPv6 server having multilayered security architecture to prevent starvation attack and authenticate clients before assigning IPv6 address. First, a thorough analysis of the DHCPv6 starvation attack was demonstrated that exhausts hardware resources of the DHCPv6 server and causes DHCPv6 service outages and network instability. Then, a DHCPv6 server was proposed that allows only a predetermined number of DHCPv6 requests per minute to prevent DHCPv6 starvation attack and also offered a robust client authentication technique using client’s MAC address and uniquely generated DHCP Unique Identifier (DUID) before allocating IPv6 address. Finally, the effectiveness of proposed DHCPv6 server was evaluated in EVE-NG network simulation environment and found that it successfully prevents DHCPv6 starvation attack and authenticate clients.

In this study, we report on crystallite parameters of Zinc Oxide nanoparticles doped with different concentrations of Nickel tetraphenylporphyrin. The films were made by dr. blade coating method and a hot compression technique. Physical characteristics such as crystal size and strain were evaluated more unerringly for all of the XRD reflection peaks resembling to the wurtzite hexagonal phase of ZnO using the Halder Wagner, modified Scherrer method, the SSP and Wagner Agua technique. The results indicate that the mean NiTPP doped ZnO crystalize size and lattice strain determined by all the methods were very interconnected. SSP and Wagner-Agua shows more accurate results than other strategies. Lattice strain decreases and crystallite size increases with increase in doping percentage. © 2022 IEEE.

UniFaaS: Programming across Distributed Cyberinfrastructure with Federated Function Serving

Modern scientific applications are increasingly decomposable into individual functions that may be deployed across distributed and diverse cyberinfrastructure such as supercomputers, clouds, and accelerators. Such applications call for new approaches to programming, distributed execution, and function-level management. We present UniFaaS, a parallel programming framework that relies on a federated function-as-a-service (FaaS) model to enable composition of distributed, scalable, and high-performance scientific workflows, and to support fine-grained function-level management. UniFaaS provides a unified programming interface to compose dynamic task graphs with transparent wide-area data management. UniFaaS exploits an observe-predict-decide approach to efficiently map workflow tasks to target heterogeneous and dynamic resources. We propose a dynamic heterogeneity-aware scheduling algorithm that employs a delay mechanism and a re-scheduling mechanism to accommodate dynamic resource capacity. Our experiments show that UniFaaS can efficiently execute workflows across computing resources with minimal scheduling overhead. We show that UniFaaS can improve the performance of a real-world drug screening workflow by as much as 22.99% when employing an additional 19.48% of resources and a montage workflow by 54.41% when employing an additional 47.83% of resources across multiple distributed clusters, in contrast to using a single cluster. Optimal Assignment and Motion Control in Two-Class Continuum Swarms

We consider optimal swarm control problems where two different classes of agents are present. Continuum idealizations of large-scale swarms are used where the dynamics describe the evolution of the spatially-distributed densities of each agent class. The problem formulation we adopt is motivated by applications where agents of one class are assigned to agents of the other class, which we refer to as demand and resource agents respectively. Assignments have costs related to the distances between mutually assigned agents, and the overall cost of an assignment is quantified by a Wasserstein distance between the densities of the two agent classes. When agents can move, the assignment cost can decrease at the expense of a physical motion cost, and this tradeoff sets up a nonlinear, infinite-dimensional optimal control problem. We show that in one spatial dimension, this problem can be converted to an infinite-dimensional, but decoupled, linear-quadratic (LQ) tracking problem when expressed in terms of the respective quantile functions. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) use information communication and technologies to provide road safety, traffic control, traffic congestion, accident avoidance, etc. Traffic accidents cause huge disruption of vehicle movements, road blockages, traffic jams, etc., known as secondary traffic incidents. These incidents in turn lead to huge CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, which directly impact the environment, reduce vehicle mileage, and unnecessary fuel waste. To reduce or avoid secondary traffic incidents, in this paper, we propose an Edge-AI-IoT integrated energy efficient system to detect, analyze, and predict the primary and secondary incidents. The proposed system uses the existing sensor technology like accelerometer, tilt, etc., to detect the accident and severity levels using Edge-AI-IoT, locally it analyzes and predicts the secondary incidents. The proposed system has been exhaustively simulated using real-time scenarios in OMENT++, Veins, and SUMO, and it was tested using the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier edge device integrated with the ThingSpeak cloud platform. The proposed system is tested with performance parameters such as clearance time, accident detection, density of vehicles, speed of vehicles, CO2 emissions, and fuel consumption at different times of day. The simulation and real-time tested results show its real-time deployment. © 2025 IEEE.

Today, data is more valuable to us than gold. When observing the environment, a substantial amount of data, particularly textual information, can be identified, tagged, prepared, and published in the form of a corpus or datasets. The primary objective of our paper is to gather, prepare, tag, and develop a vast dataset of Fidibo users' opinions regarding educational content and e-books. This dataset enables in-dept. analysis of emotions and opinion mining, particularly within the educational content realm. A common flaw in nearly all similar datasets in the Farsi language is their restriction to user opinions on services and products available on online platforms. The dataset we refer to as LDPSA (A Large Dataset of Persian Sentiment Analysis) offers several advantages over comparable datasets in the Persian language. Notably, this dataset consists of 253,368 comments, each categorized into 5 classes. LDPSA represents the sole extensive Iranian dataset suitable for scrutinizing educational content and e-books. Moreover, significant insights were gleaned from data analysis. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Iranian individuals dedicated more time to studying and engaging with educational platforms significantly. Nearly 80% of users expressed favorable opinions concerning the informational materials available on the Fidibo website. Users' inclination towards utilizing audio books has escalated, along with other analysis referenced in the paper.

Can Large Language Models Predict the Outcome of Judicial Decisions?

Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown exceptional capabilities in Natural Language Processing (NLP) across diverse domains. However, their application in specialized tasks such as Legal Judgment Prediction (LJP) for low-resource languages like Arabic remains underexplored. In this work, we address this gap by developing an Arabic LJP dataset, collected and preprocessed from Saudi commercial court judgments. We benchmark state-of-the-art open-source LLMs, including LLaMA-3.23B and LLaMA-3.1-8B, under varying configurations such as zero-shot, one-shot, and fine-tuning using LoRA. Additionally, we employed a comprehensive evaluation framework that integrates both quantitative metrics (such as BLEU, ROUGE, and BERT) and qualitative assessments (including Coherence, Legal Language, Clarity, etc.) using an LLM. Our results demonstrate that fine-tuned smaller models achieve comparable performance to larger models in task-specific contexts while offering significant resource efficiency. Furthermore, we investigate the impact of fine-tuning the model on a diverse set of instructions, offering valuable insights into the development of a more human-centric and adaptable LLM.
