Fake news continues to proliferate, posing an increasing threat to public discourse. The paper proposes a framework of a Mixture of Experts, Sentiment Analysis, and Sarcasm Detection experts for improved fake news detection. This approach captures the emotional cues in the text through a Sentiment Analysis expert, which is based on bidirectional encoder representations from Transformers (BERT) models with sentiment vectors generated using SentiWordNet and Integrated Gradients. It combines a sarcasm detection expert based on BERT, recognizing sarcasm and its type to help classify fake news. By fusing these experts through a Mixture of Experts gateway, subtle linguistic cues often found in fake news are more effectively analyzed, leading to improved accuracy in detecting misinformation. Experimental results are presented as 96% for the Sarcasm expert with the BERT base model and 83% for the Sentiment Analysis expert with the distilled version of the BERT (DistilBERT) base model, proving the effectiveness of the proposed approach in beating traditional methods. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, the Sri Lankan tea industry has fallen behind its competitors in the global tea market. This decline is caused by the challenges in productivity and resource management due to the limitations of traditional crop monitoring methods. This study presents a prototype system architecture that integrates multispectral imagery and IoT technologies to enhance plantation monitoring. The proposed system uses drones to capture high-resolution multispectral images and IoT devices to collect real-time environmental data, providing a comprehensive approach to assessing plant yield and detecting stress. Built on a hexagonal architecture, the system emphasizes modularity, reliability, and scalability by ensuring a clear separation of core functionalities from external components. This design facilitates easy adaptation to various crop types and agricultural contexts, enabling flexibility in deployment and use. This flexible framework can serve as a blueprint for improving decision-making and management practices across diverse plantation environments. © 2025 IEEE.

Rapid proliferation of aberrant neurons in brain tumors significantly damages organ function or causes death, endangering adult health. These tumors vary widely in terms of their locations, sizes, and textures. Finding malignant tumors requires the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). However, physically diagnosing brain tumors is a timeconsuming and potentially unpredictable technique. Cropping and resizing to fixed dimensions ensures consistency before submitting brain MRI images for analysis using deep learning models such as modified ResNet-50. This study uses the modified ResNet-50 model, a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) renowned for its accuracy and resilience in image recognition tasks, to provide an efficient method for brain tumor diagnosis. Initially trained on Image Net, the modified ResNet-50 model further improved using transfer learning on many annotated brain MRI scan datasets. By adding variation to the dataset, data augmentation makes the model more robust and helps it to generalize. Deeper networks are trained without sacrificing performance to the model's architecture, which addresses the vanishing gradient problem. This work classification model implemented using Python software, which facilitated the development, training, and evaluation processes, allowing for an analysis of their performance. The optimized model outperformed conventional Machine Learning (ML) techniques, demonstrating over 94% accuracy in tumor identification and classification tests. With the potential to enhance patient outcomes and diagnostic efficiency, the integration of modified ResNet-50 in brain tumor identification offers a significant development towards accurate and dependable automated diagnostic systems. The accuracy of the modified Resnet-50 is 94%, and the specificity comparison of the modified ResNet-50 is 93.5%, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Texture plays an important role in cartoon illustrations to display object materials and enrich visual experiences. Unfortunately, manually designing and drawing an appropriate texture is not easy even for proficient artists, let alone novice or amateur people. While there exist tons of textures on the Internet, it is not easy to pick an appropriate one using traditional text-based search engines. Although several texture pickers have been proposed, they still require the users to browse the textures by themselves, which is still labor-intensive and time-consuming. In this article, an automatic texture recommendation system is proposed for recommending multiple textures to replace a set of user-specified regions in a cartoon illustration with visually pleasant look. Two measurements, the suitability measurement and the style-consistency measurement, are proposed to make sure that the recommended textures are suitable for cartoon illustration and at the same time mutually consistent in style. The suitability is measured based on the synthesizability, cartoonity, and region fitness of textures. The style-consistency is predicted using a learning-based solution since it is subjective to judge whether two textures are consistent in style. An optimization problem is formulated and solved via the genetic algorithm. The industrial sector has entered a phase of profound change which sees digital technologies being integrated into the heart of industrial processes. This fourth industrial era gives birth to a new generation of factory called 'Digital Factory', 'Industry 4.0'. This industrial change is the result of the integration of new digital technologies into manufacturing processes and the optimization of energy consumption. The commitment to the environment is also a key and success factor of Industry 4.0 and green in particular the reduction of carbon emissions and pollution. This is how smart green industry try to take in charge the problem of energy consumption and to reduce the Co2 pollution. The goal of this paper is to present the new model of smart green industry using distributed artificial intelligence based on multi-agent system (MAS). The motivation to use the intelligent approach based on MAS is based on the similarity between the fundamental concepts of the cyber-physical system and those contained in the architecture and operation of MAS such as communication, coordination, decision and cooperation. © 2023 IEEE.

Device identification is a crucial aspect of securing networks, particularly in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT), where a vast variety of devices are interconnected. Recently, there has been significant research on developing techniques for identifying IoT devices based on their unique characteristics, called as device fingerprints. These techniques use machine learning algorithms, which can effectively learn and classify devices based on their features. However, device identification remains a challenging task due to the diversity of IoT devices and the constant evolution of their characteristics. This paper presents our attempt at device identification by analyzing distinct device characteristics observed during network communication and using different machine learning techniques. © 2023 IEEE.

Tomato is one of the most popular crops worldwide. The success of a tomato crop is highly dependent on the health of the plants. Nutrient deficiency surveillance is typically conducted through visual inspections, which can be challenging for inexperienced farmers and home gardeners to work accurately. There is a growing need for a quick, reliable, and accurate nutrient deficiency identification system to address this issue. The proposed method is based on image processing and deep learning technologies that are highly effective for image classification tasks. Two models were trained using a dataset collected from tomato plants in Sri Lanka and evaluated using Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask R-CNN) and, You Only Look Once (YOLO) for deficiency classification, and results obtained 92% and 98% accuracy, respectively. Deficiency dispersion level expressed as a percentage using Mask R-CNN and followed by image processing techniques. Overall, this proposed system offers a convenient and accessible tool for farmers and home gardeners to monitor and maintain the health of their tomato plants, enabling them to achieve optimal yields and ensure profitable returns. © 2023 IEEE.

This proposal outlines the development of a comprehensive educational platform aimed at bridging the information Technology knowledge gap among Tamil-speaking students in Sri Lanka. The platform is designed to enhance programming skills through personalized quizzes, hands-on projects, and adaptive learning models. The application focuses on two primary components: the first component emphasizes project-based learning and assessments, leveraging advanced Artificial Intelligence models for generating educational content. This model is combined with Retrieval-Augmented Generation, which retrieves relevant external information to refine and tailor the educational content to each student's needs. This component keeps students engaged and challenged at appropriate levels, promoting deeper understanding and practical information Technology skills. The second component involves a Level-based IT Fundamental Knowledge Evaluation system, which incorporates machine learning algorithms to predict student performance, recommend customized learning paths, and assess overall technical knowledge. The platform also integrates the OpenAI Application Programming Interface, which provides real-time Tamil translation, making the content more accessible to the target demographic. The platform empowers educators to better address individual student needs with real-time feedback and tailored experiences. 5G operates in the unlicensed spectrum to expand its capacity. This spectrum provides more uplink and downlink frequency bands in 5G to satisfy ultra-dense and scalability requirements. Wi-Fi is a prominent wireless technology that operates in unlicensed bands. Due to the proximity of cellular and Wi-Fi channels, utilization of both Wi-Fi and 5G New Radio (NR) can cause interference. The co-existence of 5G NR and Wi-Fi devices lacks the means of communication for negotiation and coordination among them. Listen-Before-Talk and Duty-cycling are standard Medium Access Control (MAC) mechanisms to enable co-existence. Due to a lack of coordination, network utilization becomes unfair with the existence of selfish devices. The selfish users could maximize throughput and affect other Wi-Fi and NR users. Here, we investigate the effects of selfish nodes on this Wi-Fi Co-existence with 5G. These nodes disobey exponential backoff to boost their channel acquisition. We study the effect of misbehavior through the Order Gain metric. Through standard CSMA/CA settings with overall channel occupancy of 99.75%, we demonstrate that selfish users profoundly impact fair co-existence. We study the side effects through throughput, channel sensing, and acquisition for various backoff window access patterns. Finally, we go through counteraction methods to overcome the selfish user impact. © 2023 IFIP.

This research aims to develop a comprehensive system for Sinhala Sign Language (SSL) that includes a learning system, dynamic sign detection, audio/video to sign conversion, and vocal training. SSL plays a crucial role in facilitating communication for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in Sri Lanka. The learning system provides a platform for learning SSL and includes a text-To-sign language interpreter. The dynamic sign detection system uses computer vision techniques to identify and interpret dynamic signs accurately. The audio/video to sign conversion system bridges the gap between spoken language and SSL by converting auditory information into visual representations. The vocal training system focuses on enhancing the vocal skills of cochlear implanted children. This research contributes to the development of effective communication and language skills for SSL users. © 2023 IEEE.
