The vehicular wireless ad hoc network (VANET), a specialized wireless sensor network, is booming to provide safety and comfort for passengers. Special features of VANET, such as high mobility nodes and large scale node population, make the Quality of Service (QoS) task extremely challenging. To provide Quality of Service (QoS) to traffic safety and entertainment applications in VANET, we propose a routing protocol which improves QoS of VANET in terms of delay, response time and throughput. The proposed scheme disseminates packets among the links which has longer expiration time calculated by using relative velocity vectors. The optimal routing path and a backup routing path are selected by balancing stability, cost and delay. Besides, the proposed scheme gracefully switches to a new optimal routing path before the current routing path is broken. Simulation results indicate that the proposed protocol improves the bandwidth, routing duration, and response time. © 2010 IEEE.

This project was initiated to develop a method for managing requirements elicitation processes (i.e. planning, carrying out, observing, and replanning the process). Requirements are elicited step by step during requirements engineering (RE) process. However, we sometimes have difficulty in maintaining project's schedule, because some types of requirements are not fully elicited even when the scheduled requirements process is finished. If we forecast difficulties of the requirements elicitation of these types of requirements, we can alter the design of the system based on the difficulties of the requirements elicitation. We have developed the PRINCE model in order to emphasize the requirements elicitation process and/or plan the requirements process. We analyzed factors that affect the completion period of requirements elicitation. This paper presents a guide for observing requirements maturation with the PRINCE model. The decision tree derived by WEKA, a data mining system, is also presented for inferring requirements maturation types. We evaluate the tree by real projects and discuss its effectiveness and problems for our future work.

Although LFSR reseeding based on test cubes for modeled faults is an efficient test compression approach, it suffers from the drawback of limited, and often unpredictable, coverage of unmodeled defects. We present a new defect coverage-driven window-based LFSR reseeding technique, which offers both high test quality and high compression. The efficiency of the proposed encoding technique in detecting defects is boosted by an efficient "output deviations" metric for grading the calculated LFSR seeds. We show that, compared to standard compression-driven LFSR reseeding, higher defect coverage is obtained without any loss of compression.

This paper is to propose a method for dept. estimation in a 2D image using wavelet analysis. According to our observations, the high frequency components represent focused objects in images of limited dept. of field (DOF) and their high frequency wavelet subbands contain high energy. In our approach, each image is first transformed to YUV domain and the Y component is extracted for further analysis. Afterwards, the high frequency bands are derived with wavelet analysis. Through two stages of smoothing and scale manipulation, the dept. map data with less error can be used for some 3D display. The experimental result shows that the proposed approach is effective and efficient for dept. map estimation.

Acquisition of pervasive sensor data can be often unsuccessful due to power outage at nodes, time synchronization issues, interference, network transmission failures or sensor hardware issues. Such failures can lead to inadequate data delivery to the monitoring applications resulting in erroneous conclusions. This paper presents a missing values substitution framework that addresses the aforementioned issue. The presented framework has been evaluated within a pervasive sensor monitoring environment that collects and transmits patient health related data and results have been presented. First, the basic knowledge of information fusion and its' application in power system are introduced. Next, aiming at the failure of conditional D-S evidence theory in dealing with conflicting evidences, an improved D-S theory is recommended. Then, the advantage of modified D-S combination rule and matters need attention are elaborated through instances analysis of fault diagnosis of circuit breaker and state detection of transformer. Fuzzy control is a nonlinear control method;its performance depends on the fuzzy control rules, quantification factor and the scale factor. Because these multiple objectives are influence with each others, therefore it is very difficult to ensure the control effect only rely on expertise's experience. In this paper, dynamic evolutionary algorithm is adopted to optimize the multi-objectives in fuzzy controller. In dynamic evolutionary algorithm, based on the competitive relationship between particles' free energy and entropy in the phase space system, a new option strategy is put forward which is used to maintain species diversity;furthermore, multi-parent crossover operator is selected. This operator selects some individuals to form a space and then do searching in this space. This algorithm has strong ability to find the solutions of the problem, and it also run quickly compared with other traditional algorithms. Simulation results show that fuzzy controller optimized by the algorithm has good steady-state response time, steady-state error and overshoot. ©2010 IEEE.

In this paper, we present an FPGA implementation of real-time Retinex video image enhancement. Our implementation is based on the previously proposed architecture, which can handle the variational approach of the Retinex theory. In order to efficiently reduce the enormous computational cost required for image enhancement, processing layers and repeat counts of iterations are determined in accordance with software evaluation result. As for processing architecture, our pipelining architecture can handle high resolution pictures in real-time. Our FPGA implementation supports WUXGA (1,920x1,200) 60 fps as well as 1080p60. © 2010 TSI Press.

A pattern discovered from a collection of data is usually considered potentially interesting if its information content can assist the user in their decision making process. To that end, we have defined the potential interestingness of a pattern based on whether it provides statistical knowledge that is able to affect one's belief system. In previous work, we proposed two novel algorithms, Discovering All Potentially Interesting Patterns (DAPIP) and All-Confidence Discovery of Potentially Interesting Patterns (ACDPIP), designed to discover potentially interesting patterns from a collection of data. Results of experimental investigations show that the application of these two algorithms is limited to non-dense datasets. In response, we propose a new algorithm, referred to as ACDPIP-Closed, designed to discover potential interesting patterns from dense datasets. We show empirically that ACDPIP-Closed is able to effectively and efficiently discover potentially interesting patterns from dense datasets. Additional contributions provided by the paper include a definition of a frequent closed itemset based on an all-confidence threshold and a theorem stating that, under the assumption of a particular ordering of items, an itemset is support based closed if and only if it is all-confidence based closed. © 2010 IEEE.
