Radial or pincushion distortion problem of the wide angle charge-coupled device (CCD) camera is an important issue in the image calibration in case of close-up photography of real scene. We designed the auto-extraction method of the warping points in the calibration algorithm of the image acquired by the wide angle CCD camera. Proposed method extracts the distortion point by the wide angle CCD camera, using the threshold value of the histogram of the horizontal and vertical pixel lines. This processing step can be directly applied to the original image of the wide angle CCD camera output. Proposed method results are compared with hand-worked result image using the two wide angle CCD cameras having different angles (90° and 120°) with the difference value of the result images respectively. Experimental results show that proposed method can allocate the distortion-calibration constant of the wide angle CCD camera regardless of lens type, distortion shape and image type.

We present an automatic query expansion approach by generalizing the vector space model of information retrieval. In this framework, the images are presented by vectors of weighted concepts similar to the keyword-based representation in the text retrieval domain. The concepts comprise of color and texture patches from local image regions in a multi-dimensional feature space. To generate the concept vocabularies and represent the images, statistical model is built by utilizing a multi-class Support Vector Machine (SVM)-based classification technique. For automatic query expansion, the correlations between concepts are analyzed based on the neighborhood proximity between the concepts in encoded images by considering the local feedback information. The experimental results on a photographic image collection demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed query expansion approaches. Copyright 2009 ACM.

This paper proposes a coarse-grained dynamically reconfigurable architecture, which offers flexible reliability to soft errors and aging. A notion of cluster is introduced as a basic element of the proposed architecture, each of which can select four operation modes with different levels of spatial redundancy and area-efficiency. Evaluation of permanent error rates demonstrates that four different reliability levels can be achieved by the proposed architecture. We also evaluate aging effect due to NBTI, and illustrate that alternating active cells with resting ones periodically will greatly mitigate the aging process with negligible power overhead. The area of additional circuits to attain immunity to soft errors and reliability configuration is 26.6% of the proposed reconfigurable device. Finally, a fault-tolerance evaluation of Viterbi decoder mapped on the proposed architecture suggests that there is a considerable trade-off between reliability and area overhead.
