The rising popularity of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV s) and other vehicles with high centers of mass has heightened the importance of effective anti-rollover protection systems. Traditional methods for checking roll rates can be cost-prohibitive due to the need for redundant sensors. This paper presents a novel approach using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network to predict the roll rate of vehicles under off-road conditions, forecasting up to 0.04 seconds into the future. The model inputs include lateral and longitudinal accelerations, roll and yaw rates, the steering angle of the first axle, and the speeds of all four wheels, with data spanning the current and up to 0.04 seconds in the past. The neural network was trained and validated with five hours of preprocessed data from the Bremly, Michigan off-road test track. A comparison with results from existing literature, along with a thorough evaluation, robustly demonstrates the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed model in predicting vehicle roll rates.

Device identification is a crucial aspect of securing networks, particularly in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT), where a vast variety of devices are interconnected. Recently, there has been significant research on developing techniques for identifying IoT devices based on their unique characteristics, called as device fingerprints. These techniques use machine learning algorithms, which can effectively learn and classify devices based on their features. However, device identification remains a challenging task due to the diversity of IoT devices and the constant evolution of their characteristics. This paper presents our attempt at device identification by analyzing distinct device characteristics observed during network communication and using different machine learning techniques.

Cultural Tourism (CT) is a significant element of today’s economy, accounting for around 37% of the total tourist industry and expanding at a pace of over 15% each year. This function and economic impact can benefit some EU and non-EU locations and areas with high cultural, social, and environmental potential. Other synergistic variables such as know-how, Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), gastronomy, identity, local culture, values, intangible legacy, or other characteristics also contribute to this influence. The work presented in this paper is part of the Social Innovation and TEchnologies for Sustainable Growth through Participative Cultural TOURism (TExTOUR) project, which brings together partners from the quintuple social innovation helix (knowledge, business, society, government, and entrepreneurs) to co-design, validate, and scale up policies and strategies that have a positive impact on socioeconomic territorial development based on cultural tourism. TExTOUR collaborates with eight CT Pilots in lesser-known destinations to develop collaborative work methodologies for developing CT strategies for local sites, utilizing ICTs and social innovation tools. The CT-Labs assist stakeholders in putting CT ad hoc strategies and action plans into action, monitoring them, and validating them. As a result, a technological platform (ICT tool) is presented in this paper, with its components outlined.

A building lifecycle consists of multiple domains, and building information modeling (BIM) applications involve cross-domain knowledge exchange. In the knowledge spiral theory proposed by Nonaka, externalization facilitates knowledge exchange in designing cooperation, and a model library (ML) contains the necessary information for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. However, current MLs are centralized systems that are vulnerable to data tampering and copyright disputes, and the provided models may not match the requirements of current building projects. Therefore, this article develops a blockchain-based parametric ML (BBPML) for BIM collaboration to realize knowledge sharing. The parametric model in our ML can be flexibly applied to a project by adjusting the parameters. A blockchain network provides reliable storage and ensures the upload sequence. The research creates a website based on the proposed system through Ethereum and applies it to a curtain wall project. © 2023 American Society of Civil Engineers.

Air quality monitoring is crucial for protecting ecosystems and public health, especially in Indonesia, a country with unique geographical and socio-economic characteristics facing complex environmental challenges. This study examines the multifaceted interactions of various factors affecting Indonesia’s air quality monitoring system, including industrial emissions, vehicular traffic, agricultural activities, and forest fires. Geographic factors like topography, wind patterns, and regional diversity significantly influence pollutant distribution and concentrations. Social and economic dimensions, such as rapid industrialization, urbanization, and population growth, also impact energy consumption patterns and air quality. This research employs a comprehensive methodological approach, combining literature review, data analysis, and the SmartPLS analytical model to understand these complexities. Data were collected from air monitoring agencies and scientific sources, focusing on variables such as industrial activity levels, traffic density, meteorological conditions, urbanization, and health impacts. The SmartPLS model was utilized to analyze complex cause- and-effect relationships between these variables. Results highlight significant variations in air quality across different regions and times, influenced by both environmental and human factors. Advanced sensor technologies and remote monitoring systems are identified as potential solutions to enhance monitoring coverage and accuracy, especially in remote areas. Collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector is emphasized as vital for developing a sustainable and effective air quality monitoring infrastructure. The study provides actionable recommendations for improving Indonesia’s air quality monitoring system, aiming to foster a cleaner and healthier environment. We have developed a visual programming tool called SmrAI for function testing, and investigated whether wrapping existing source code with Scratch Blocks is an effective means of mitigating the shortage of programming personnel in the manufacturing. SmrAI is based on Smalruby, which can convert Scratch Blocks into Ruby code. In addition, SmrAI introduces two new sets of Blocks that wrap existing Ruby libraries for function testing. Since existing tools and libraries were utilized, the cost of developing SmrAI was low, and there were no changes in the function testing procedure. We conducted a verification test using staff members who were familiar with the function testing process but had little or no programming experience, and confirmed that they were able to program using SmrAI and that they had confidence in its business applications. These results are expected to contribute to the diversification and increase of programming personnel responsible for function test programming. © 2022 Japan Society for Software Science and technology. Extended reality (XR) enables both new opportunities but also introduces new barriers for inclusion in society. Furthermore, XR is less researched than web, desktop and mobile applications. This position paper presents the concept of an XR platform for inclusion, with the purpose to make people on the autism spectrum and with other disabilities, more independent of help from others in everyday life situations. Based on previous research, our position is that, through current and future XR technologies combined with civic and artificial intelligence, it is possible to create individually personalised support for this purpose, grounded in practice to ensure validation.

Deep learning as a tool for quantum error reduction in quantum image processing

Despite the limited availability and quantum volume of quantum computers, quantum image representation is a widely researched area. Currently developed methods use quantum entanglement to encode information about pixel positions. These methods range from using the angle parameter of the rotation gate (e.g., the Flexible Representation of Quantum Images, FRQI), sequences of qubits (e.g., Novel Enhanced Quantum Representation, NEQR), or the angle parameter of the phase shift gates (e.g., Local Phase Image Quantum Encoding, LPIQE) for storing color information. All these methods are significantly affected by decoherence and other forms of quantum noise, which is an inseparable part of quantum computing in the noisy intermediate-scale quantum era. These phenomena can highly influence the measurements and result in extracted images that are visually dissimilar to the originals. Because this process is at its foundation quantum, the computational reversal of this process is possible. There are many methods for error correction, mitigation, and reduction, but all of them use quantum computer time or additional qubits to achieve the desired result. We report the successful use of a generative adversarial network trained for image-to-image translation, in conjunction with Phase Distortion Unraveling error reduction method, for reducing overall error in images encoded using LPIQE. © 2023, CC BY.

The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is designed for low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPANs). Deterministic and Synchronous Multi-channel Extension (DSME) is one of the key Medium Access Control (MAC) modes of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard that was introduced to address the need for higher reliability, lower latency, and better scalability in network communication in Internet of Things (IoT) applications. However, in dynamic network conditions (topology and channel traffic), the network suffers from several limitations, such as low packet delivery ratio, high latency and packet collisions, and finally, higher power consumption. This is because of sub-optimal parameter settings. The standard does not define any mechanism to adapt the parameters based on network conditions. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to adapt/fine-tune the network parameters DSME along with the optimization of QoS using an algorithm based on Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) for dense and dynamic DSME-based IoT networks. Through simulations, the proposed mechanisms’ performance is analyzed in terms of energy efficiency, transmission overhead, throughput, and latency and is shown to outperform the existing DSME MAC scheme.

However, to facilitate the transfer to other subjects, the catalogue of active teaching activities is sufficiently varied to make it easy to extrapolate and use in other subjects, thanks to the fact that teachers have a wide variety of activities to choose from the set.
