The government of Bangladesh has implemented the “Stay Home” policy following the WHO recommendation to resist the community transmission of Covid-19. As a result, the routine activities of all government, semi-government establishments, including educational institutions, are severely affected, and the country's economic growth becomes slowed down. To overcome such a situation, the relevant authorities have introduced the “Work from Home” policy for the employees and “Remote Education” for students. However, due to the persistence of multi-dimensional socio-economic problems, many employees and students face big challenges in performing their regular jobs while adopting such a policy. Consequently, enormous psychological anxiety has been developed for all people, including students, parents, employees, etc., and concurrently created severe changes in their behavior. This study aims to analyze the reasons for the behavioral changes of the employees, students, academic staff, and family members of different ages due to psychological anxiety, stress, or physical issues. A comprehensive online-based survey has been carried out on people working in various sectors in Bangladesh. A modified Apriori Algorithm has been used to sort out the associations between the causes and types of behavioral changes. Analyzed data revealed a massive human behavioral change in most participants. This finding indicates that the negligence of those significant human behavioral changes may cause a higher risk of creating psychological imbalance. Therefore, there is a need to have a solid understanding of the reasons for the behavioral changes and set up standard guidelines to maintain “Work from Home” in this Covid-19 situation to avoid psychological imbalance. Based on this study, some suggestions have been given for implementation by the government on an urgent basis. © 2023

Responding to inefficiencies in traditional classroom management methods, this paper proposes an innovative, technology-driven approach to enhance educational processes. Central to our proposal is the development of a facial recognition system designed for efficient student attendance tracking, thus eliminating time-consuming roll calls. Additionally, we plan to introduce interactive whiteboard features to enrich classroom dynamics between students and faculty. However, our approach extends beyond mere attendance tracking and interactive learning. We aim to launch a Program Learning Outcomes (PLO) and Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) mapper. Leveraging Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, this tool will auto-align CLOs with PLOs, facilitating a more efficient curriculum development process. We also suggest implementing a feature powered by YOLOv5 to monitor and assess student attention in the classroom. Our comprehensive suite of tools is designed to equip educators with resources to refine their teaching strategies and boost student learning outcomes. By integrating facial recognition for attendance, interactive whiteboard features, NLP-based CLO/PLO mapping, and attention monitoring, we aspire to provide a robust solution enabling educators to adapt their teaching methods to students’ unique needs.

Over the past several years, ATSC has continued to develop new technologies that can be integrated into the standard, making it a leading innovator in the broadcasting industry. The spectrum efficiency of the waveforms and coding, combined with new infrastructure based on the integration of a core network, has proposed ATSC 3.0 as a strong candidate for implementing new multimedia-related use cases. However, the requirements for certain use cases (e.g., AR/VR, 360-degree video) are very harsh, for instance, regarding the signal quality needed at the receiver end. A set of ATSC 3.0 physical layer configurations cannot be implemented with the current channel estimation and equalization solutions. Consequently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is presented as the necessary enabler for these cases. Specifically, AI has demonstrated better use of the knowledge of the propagation channel than traditional processing methods. Therefore, this paper aims to propose AI-based channel estimation techniques for ATSC. Specifically, two solutions are proposed. The first is a super-resolution estimation enhancer, whereas the second performs the interpolation process within the AI. The results show that both techniques improve the performance of current processing techniques by around one order of magnitude.

Swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms are widely applied in industrial scheduling, mobile edge computing, etc due to their strong robustness and fast optimization speed. However, some real-world industrial optimization problems involve numerous decision variables, known as high-dimensional problems. Current algorithms often require considerable computational resources to evaluate objective function values because of high-dimensional decision spaces. Moreover, they are also prone to be trapped in local optima. To solve the above problems, this work proposes an improved algorithm named Surrogate-assisted Multi-class Collaborative Teaching and learning optimizer (SMCT). A multi-class collaborative teaching and learning optimizer is proposed as a base optimizer to improve exploration and exploitation abilities. Furthermore, an autoencoder-assisted radial basis function is proposed as the surrogate model to replace true function evaluations, thereby saving computational resources and balancing the complexity and accuracy in fitting true models. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that SMCT surpasses its existing peers in both search accuracy and convergence speed across eight high-dimensional benchmark functions. © 2024 IEEE.

Jordan has a high and growing level of traffic accidents reaching 160,600) accidents in 2021, (11,241) of them had human injuries, (589) deaths, and (320) million JOD losses. Road traffic accidents are currently the 8th leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for about 1.35 million fatalities annually. Understanding the primary causes of these accidents and the circumstances in which they occur is essential if governments throughout the world are to put policies in place to limit the number of fatalities brought on by traffic accidents. This project has two objectives: (i) to learn more about Jordan's present road accident situation by performing an exploratory study on several road accident datasets, and (ii) to investigate the effectiveness of various machine-learning techniques in predicting the severity of road accidents in Jordan. The dataset entities were collected, collated, explored, and prepared for use in the model. To assess their predictive performance, five different classification algorithms were trained and tested. The findings of the present study demonstrate that the best algorithm was Logistic Regression, which had an accuracy of 98.1%.

Open source software for robot audition called HARK aims to make “OpenCV” in audio signal processing, providing comprehensive functions from multichannel audio input to sound localization, sound source separation, and au-tomatic speech recognition. Since each of these HARK modules takes considerable energy when executed on PC, we propose to implement each module on an FPGA board called M-KUBOS connected. Here, we focus on the most computationally expensive function of HARK; the sound source separation, and implement it on a Zynq Ultrascale+ board. More than twice a performance improvement was achieved by using the sound frequency level parallelization in the HLS description compared to the software execution on the Ryzen 3990X64-core server. Power evaluation of the real board showed that the energy consumption is only 1/23.4 of the server.

Artificial intelligence (AI) trends vary significantly across global regions, shaping the trajectory of innovation, regulation, and societal impact. This variation influences how different regions approach AI development, balancing technological progress with ethical and regulatory considerations. This study conducts a comparative analysis of AI trends in the United States (US), the European Union (EU), and Asia, focusing on three key dimensions: generative AI, ethical oversight, and industrial applications. The US prioritizes market-driven innovation with minimal regulatory constraints, the EU enforces a precautionary risk-based framework emphasizing ethical safeguards, and Asia employs state-guided AI strategies that balance rapid deployment with regulatory oversight. Although these approaches reflect different economic models and policy priorities, their divergence poses challenges to international collaboration, regulatory harmonization, and the development of global AI standards. To address these challenges, this paper synthesizes regional strengths to propose an adaptive AI governance framework that integrates risk-tiered oversight, innovation accelerators, and strategic alignment mechanisms. By bridging governance gaps, this study offers actionable insights for fostering responsible AI development while ensuring a balance between technological progress, ethical imperatives, and regulatory coherence.

As the Internet of Things (IoT) is poised to become a global phenomenon, it is imperative to schedule the transmissions of IoT devices effectively and in a fair way. Leveraging Long Range (LoRa) technology, we can achieve transmissions that consume minimal power while covering vast distances, aligning with the requirements of IoT devices. However, the proximity of multiple devices within the same area often leads to packet interference and collisions. To address this, our study introduces a pioneering scheduling method utilizing a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to manage and streamline the transmission of data from End Devices (EDs). This method employs two LEO satellites: the first satellite assigns the sequence for EDs to dispatch their packets, and the second collects these packets in the predetermined sequence before forwarding them to the LoRa Network Server (LNS). For urgent (URG) communications, EDs can alert the first satellite, which then coordinates with the LNS to schedule these priority transmissions. The LNS generates a schedule that is relayed to the second satellite, informing EDs with URG packets of their specific transmission times and channels. This scheduling approach is designed to optimize channel usage effectively while accommodating the transmission of urgent data.

In this study, we propose a fusion model based on DenseNet201 and InceptionV3 aimed at improving the accuracy of 8-class classification of the BreakHis breast cancer histopathological image dataset. The BreakHis dataset poses significant challenges for automatic classification tasks due to its high feature similarity and class imbalance. Our model leverages the deep connectivity of DenseNet201 and the broad exploratory capabilities of InceptionV3 to capture comprehensive features from local to global scales, enhancing adaptability to various feature scales. This fusion model outperforms individual DenseNet201 or InceptionV3 models in key performance metrics such as precision, recall, and F1 score. It shows marked performance improvements, particularly in categories with high feature similarity and fewer samples, demonstrating its effectiveness in addressing internal dataset imbalances. Additionally, the model exhibits stability across multiple training and testing iterations, further validating its reliability and effectiveness in classifying breast cancer histopathological images. The results indicate that the fusion of DenseNet201 and InceptionV3 models can enhance the accuracy of automatic classification of breast cancer histopathological images, especially in categories with high feature similarity. This finding provides valuable insights for the development and selection of classification models and contributes to future work in medical image analysis. © 2024 SPIE.

Heart failure (HF) is a complex syndrome that is affected by many factors and causes. It is crucial to early recognize the disease subtypes and the unidentified clinical pathways that give rise to it. Machine learning (ML) is the tool that assist to deal with these challenges and improve the prediction of HF. In this work, the HF risk prediction was implemented by employed ML classifiers, such as Random Forest (RF), Extreme Grading Boosting (XGBoost) and Light Gradient-Boosting Machine (LGBM). We utilized the data from the German epidemiological trial on ankle brachial index - getABI cohort, which includes 6,454 patients. The performance of classifiers was estimated by Accuracy (ACC), Sensitivity, Specificity and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) in mean values for each ML classifier. The results were also interpreted using the Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) approach, the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) values. Our work reveals that LGBM classifier predict the HF risk within 5 years follow-up in general population with 68 % accuracy. Moreover, the N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) was identified as the most important feature for HF risk prediction. © 2024 IEEE.
