As the global law enforcement workforce faces unprecedented challenges such as declining numbers and shifting demographics, the need for innovative solutions to manage crime and insecurity is becoming increasingly critical. This paper presents a multifaceted approach aimed at harnessing the power of intelligent systems to address the complex and evolving landscape of crime in societies with diminishing Police workforce in Nigeria. The study provides a comprehensive overview of the demographic shifts leading to a declining workforce and their far-reaching implications on crime rates, public safety, and law enforcement resources. It underscores the urgency of adapting to this new reality and the need for intelligent systems to assist in this endeavor. The paper adopts the object-oriented methodology in the design and development of an intelligent system tailored for crime management and insecurity mitigation. Drawing from the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics, this system employs cutting-edge techniques for predictive policing, resource allocation optimization, and risk assessment. It integrates data from various sources, including crime statistics, demographic data, economic indicators, and social media sentiment analysis, to provide a holistic understanding of the crime landscape. Furthermore, this paper emphasizes the ethical considerations and safeguards built into the intelligent system to prevent bias, discrimination, and privacy infringements. In the field of health care, the use of data for medical insurance is a current area of research. In this report, regression models created using machine learning methods and algorithms for health insurance prediction are the object of investigation. A correlation analysis was performed on the input data, and a strong dependence was found for the features BMI and smoker. A comparative analysis was made for twenty-four models constructed using Decision Trees (DT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Boosted, and Bagged algorithms. To evaluate the model metrics were used the coefficient of determination (R-Squared), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Time for training. From the obtained experimental results, it is found that the model for the BMI feature with the Bagged algorithm has an accuracy of 0.94. The mean squared error for features Smoker and Blood Pressure of models created with the Bagged algorithm is 0.06. Models built with the Support Vector Method (SVM) require more training time than the others do. Algorithms from machine learning and statistical analysis are used to create regression models that can be useful both for health care providers and to improve the services provided.

This research study focuses on the prediction of inflation rates using two distinct models, Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), tailored to accommodate the temporal resolutions of monthly and quarterly inflation data. While a comprehensive evaluation across varying time horizons was not conducted, the results suggest that the ARIMA model excels in short-term forecasting, as evidenced by its impressive performance on a 2021 holdout dataset. Conversely, the LSTM model displays potential for medium-term predictions. This study underscores the significance of aligning forecasting models with data characteristics, emphasizes the importance of temporal resolution, and discusses potential avenues for improvement, such as multivariate modeling or alternative techniques like Prophet. The findings have broad implications for economists, policymakers, and analysts seeking precise inflation forecasts, shedding light on the nuanced interplay between models and data in the domain of inflation prediction.

Within the paradigm of Evolving and Adaptive Intelligent systems, the Electrical Power System (EPS) represents a Critical Infrastructure demanding robust reliability metrics. This study pioneers the application of Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) heuristic to the Optimal Switch Allocation (OSA) problem in the EPS. Adapting neighborhood structures and local search methods, we consider the joint allocation of Manual Switches and Remote-Controlled switches, addressing interdependencies. Results highlight VNS efficacy in navigating OSA challenges, showcasing its adaptability in an evolving system. Comparative analyses endorse VNS as a valuable tool for addressing EPS reliability within the dynamic landscape of evolving and adaptive intelligent systems.

One major goal of digital twin technology applied in the architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Industry is the mapping of roads and road environments with their associated information. Such digital twins can support cost-effective testing, simulations, and the production of mapping backgrounds for automated vehicles and generally for Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) developments. The efficient workflow that leads from data acquisition to finished products depends on a number of requirements and knowledge sets. The main contribution of the paper is a general methodology of creating HD-map from point cloud and image data set. Accordingly, the most widely used survey techniques are presented and the requirements for the objects to be derived are summarized. The paper then outlines a general implementation procedure as an expert knowledge through a real-life example, where the results obtained for the ZalaZONE Automotive Proving Ground are demonstrated. © 2023 IEEE.

The key goals in learning Bayesian networks (BNs) from data are to identify significant statistical relationships between variables and to build a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) that represents these relationships through Joint Probability Distributions. Most research relies on score-based or conditional test methods for model selection. However, when using real-world data, it can be challenging to identify whether the learned DAG represents the underlying relations inherent in the limited datasets, particularly when evaluating data obtained from multiple independent sources. This study presents a methodology to assess the credible interval for both the existence and direction of each edge within Bayesian networks derived from data. Furthermore, it explores the fusion of models acquired from distinct and independent datasets. This approach enables the Bayesian learning of Bayesian Networks (BNs) from data by treating the uncertainty associated with the existence and orientation of each edge as a random variable. By evaluating the probability of the orientation of each edge, it is possible to suggest the existence of a potential latent variable within the dataset. If an edge exhibits equiprobable directions and is verified to exist, it becomes a plausible hypothesis for a latent variable. The Fast Causal Algorithm, originally introduced by [1], is the foundation of this approach. Finally, by employing a maximum a posteriori estimation, the most prominent edges and their respective orientations are identified and employed to create the leading DAG. We present our findings in simulated datasets with different length sizes. By comparing the structure of the learned DAGs with existing structures and evaluating the inference capabilities of the final BN, we establish that our approach achieves results comparable to the most recent studies in the field, while offering insights into the model’s reliability and improving the use of the data.

Public bus stops in India are becoming more crowded due to the country's fast population expansion. People wait a long time for buses to come, then suddenly congregate around them when they do, packing the buses with people and pushing them up into the footboards, which causes accidents. An additional concern of overcrowding is theft. All of this is the result of numerous bus stops not having adequate information on when busses would arrive. The proposed work paves a very important role for the passengers. The passengers will be provided with the information of the arrival of next bus, seat occupancy and the total passengers inside the bus. The information about the seat occupancy, in-passengers and out-passengers is done with the help of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. The arrival of the next bus is determined by calculating the duration of the buses that are near using RFID readers placed in different bus stations. The count and the frequency will be interfaced in the web application. The passengers can check the application to know the occupancy and today's society where people can catch the right bus at the station and at the right time. This will solve the problems like waiting in bus stops and wasting time and going in a crowded bus. © 2024 IEEE.

For decades, speed sensors based on the spatial frequency filter method have successfully proven themselves in a wide range of applications. This makes the sensor concept particularly suitable for the area of functional safety. New filter variants extend the previous measuring range to very low speeds up to standstill detection. By combining the sensor with a safety system on chip for recording and analysing measured values, a functionally safe measuring chain can be established. In order to demonstrate the variability and performance of the new filters, an optical application-specific integrated circuit was designed, which forms the basis for further extensive tests. The core components are a large number of freely configurable photodiode channels, which were realised via a redundant structure, as well as two different transimpedance amplifier concepts. In the further course of the project, the ASIC will be analysed with regard to its desired performance parameters and its robustness.

The testing phase is one of the most important phases of the software life cycle, which ensures the efficiency and quality of the software product. Many tests are conducted on the software, not only to detect errors, but also to provide a complete picture of the quality of the outputs provided by the program and to increase confidence in all of the functions. Due to the difficulty in estimating most of the test data and the time spent in this process, many techniques are used in the automatic generation of test cases. The genetic algorithm is one of the most important used methods in this process, and it has achieved great success in generating limited and appropriate test cases to give a complete conceptualization of the function under test. The Junit testing framework is used in automated testing processes within test-based development methodologies, but it lacks of a mechanism to specify and generate a specific test data that put the program under test in the required scenario. In order for the programmer to be able to perform the test automatically in an integrated way within JUnit testing framework, the genetic algorithm has been improved in this research and emerged into the JUnit testing framework to fully automatic testing and generate various numeric test cases at the unit-test stage. Based on testing of the proposed algorithm within the Junit testing framework, it has proven its effectiveness and facilitation of generating perfect specific numeric test cases.

Rural areas broadband access suffers from the limited investment of network operators, due to the forecasted return on investment. As a consequence, digital services such as eHealth, remote education, or smart agriculture cannot be offered to the rural population. In this context, research on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) networks has emerged, which aims to solve the coverage problem by relying on small cells mounted on UAVs to provide coverage. From the network Quality of Service (QoS) point of view, i.e., the performance offered to users according to certain parameters such as delay, reliability, and throughput provisioning can be identified as one of the weak points. For the problem of maximizing throughput, the main solution is to group several UAVs in the same area. However, as the offered throughput increases, the power consumption will also increase. In this context, this paper proposes a genetic algorithm to solve the problem of jointly maximizing the offered throughput in rural scenarios where users request microservice-based IoT applications while minimizing the energy consumption of the swarm of UAVs. The algorithm is defined and evaluated in realistic scenarios, demonstrating its effectiveness on increasing the throughput while decreasing the number of UAVs that are required.
