This study investigates the comparative effectiveness of manual PID tuning versus Fuzzy-PID control in enhancing the performance of a robot arm with two degrees of freedom (2-DOF). The experimental approach involves conducting two scenarios: manual tuning of PID parameters in Scenario 1 and utilizing a fuzzy algorithm for PID parameter tuning in Scenario 2. The novelty of this research lies in the new 3D mechanical design of the 2-DOF robot arm and the utilization of the ESP8266 microcontroller for implementing Fuzzy-PID control. Performance evaluation is conducted using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Root Mean Square Percentage Error (RMSPE) calculations. The results reveal that Fuzzy-PID control significantly reduces errors compared to manual PID tuning, with lower RMSE and RMSPE values indicating more precise and stable control. These findings underscore the potential of integrating fuzzy logic with PID control to enhance system adaptability and flexibility. Additionally, the ESP8266 is capable of handling the computations required for fuzzy-PID control while being cost-effective.

This paper has conducted a detailed and extensive analysis of the algorithms applied in image colorization. Specifically, this paper analyses the application of the algorithms, combinations of the approaches, the performance of the algorithms considering different parameters. This paper also reviews and contrasts the research methodologies suggested. The analysis is conducted to understand how the algorithms really work what are the drawbacks of the applications how the systems operate under different conditions. This paper also suggests possible areas for further research, such as integration of different image features; the implementation of multi-modal pictures for matching and colorizing; the study of super-resolution. Overall, this paper aimed to provide a comprehensive guide for further development of algorithms in the image colorization area. The paper also highlights new directions and challenges in the field of image colorization, including the development of real-time colorization systems for interactive applications, the exploration of novel evaluation metrics for evaluating colorization quality, and the integration of machine learning techniques with domain-specific *** paper acts as a roadmap for improving the state-of-the-art in image colorization, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and ultimately improving the visual content creation process across various domains by synthesizing existing research findings and suggesting directions for future exploration.

The Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus of CFRP laminates can be varied by changing their stacking sequences. CFRP with the specific stacking sequence can theoretically perform the "negative" Poisson’s ratio, which causes extension in the direction perpendicular to the loading direction, for example. However, the relationship between Poisson's ratio and fracture morphology has not yet been elucidated. The increasing reliance on computers and the internet has increased the need for protection against attacks and security threats. A network-based intrusion detection system (NIDS) is one of the promising research fields that could highly contribute to cyber-attacks detection and mitigation. Datasets are necessary for NIDS training and evaluation. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of publicly available NIDS datasets. The study covers the most used NIDS datasets, each dataset is briefly described along with its main properties and shortcomings. Moreover, the paper highlights the most important dataset characteristics and provides a clear datasets comparison accordingly. Finally, the paper discusses observations and provides some recommendations to help researchers identify future work.

Magnetic-field simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) using consumer-grade inertial and magnetometer sensors offers a scalable, cost-effective solution for indoor localization. However, the rapid error accumulation in the inertial navigation process limits the feasible exploratory phases of these systems. Advances in magnetometer array processing have demonstrated that odometry information, i.e., displacement and rotation information, can be extracted from local magnetic field variations and used to create magnetic-field odometry-aided inertial navigation systems. The error growth rate of these systems is significantly lower than that of standalone inertial navigation systems. This study seeks an answer to whether a magnetic-field SLAM system fed with measurements from a magnetometer array can indirectly extract odometry information — without requiring algorithmic modifications — and thus sustain longer exploratory phases. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that such a system can extract odometry information and indirectly create a magnetic field odometry-aided inertial navigation system during the exploration phases. However, practical challenges related to map resolution and computational complexity remain significant.

The paper discusses the challenges in controlling a two-stage photovoltaic (PV)-based shunt active power filter (SAPF) under distorted grid conditions and stochastic PV system behavior. To address this, the paper proposes an adaptive proportional integral (API) regulator to regulate the DC-link voltage, which adapts its parameters based on the DC-link error voltage to provide low bandwidth for disturbance rejection and high bandwidth for dynamic performance enhancement. The paper also proposes an estimation method for the reference current using the sliding discrete Fourier transform and the instantaneous symmetrical component theory, which is suitable for non-ideal grid or load conditions. The accuracy of the proposed reference current estimation method is analyzed using time- and frequency-domain analysis. The performance of the PV-SAPF system with the proposed control algorithms is illustrated through simulation and real-time hardware validation under various grid conditions. Despite distorted grid conditions, the total harmonic distortion of the grid current is substantially within IEEE Std 519-2014. The proposed API regulator and reference current estimation method show promising results in improving the performance of the PV-SAPF system in the presence of internal and external disturbances. © 2013 IEEE.

This confluence of escalating energy costs and upsurges in the demand for high-quality crop yields under uncertain environmental conditions makes a strong case for the urgent optimization of greenhouse operations. The most currently used control systems for smart greenhouses are founded upon static or even narrowly focused optimization approaches, which severely limit their adaptability and efficiency in dynamic settings. These methodologies fail to address the challenge of multiple objectives, such as the consumption of energy and crop yield, with unpreparedness for disturbances caused by external influences and computational bottlenecks. This paper brings about a collective framework for three of the most advanced RL methodologies: Multi-Objective Adaptive Policy Gradient with Environmental Feedback, Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning with Temporal Decision Decomposition, and Neural Meta-Controller with Self-Organizing Sub-Networks. MAPGEF utilizes real-time environmental feedback to dynamically adjust policy weights, thus achieving up to a 25% reduction in energy use and an 18% increase in crop yield through accurate environmental tuning. The HRL-TDD utilizes hierarchical RL combined with temporal decomposition in order to handle tough tasks of a greenhouse, thus improving a decision by up to 30%, with energy efficiency improved by 20% and crop yield stabilized with 15%. NMCSOS introduces a neural meta-controller coordinating self-organizing sub-networks, ensuring robust responses to external disturbances with 33% faster recovery, 22% better energy optimization, and 18% reduced yield variability levels. Together, these methodologies address the pressing need for adaptable, scalable, and energy-efficient greenhouse control systems. By integrating multi-objective learning, temporal decomposition, and self-organizing networks, this work significantly advances greenhouse management, promoting sustainable agriculture and resilience in the face of environmental uncert

The design of civic tech is often confronted with impediments, barriers, and a lack of resources. These and other causes may lead to the discontinuation and even abandonment of initiatives. Since seemingly failed projects are much more difficult to publish as articles, this workshop will provide academics and practitioners with a rare opportunity to exchange experiences and insights on discontinued civic tech initiatives. The goal of the workshop is to develop a better understanding of why some civic tech initiatives fail and ask whether discontinued initiatives may still somehow contribute to social change and the growth of digital civics. A variety of sub-questions around discontinued civic tech will be addressed in the workshop, including matters of participation, citizen science, public management, power structures and biases, and communication. © 2023 Owner/Author.
