The management of radioactive sources is a critical process that ensures the safe and responsible handling of radioactive materials throughout their lifecycle. These sources require careful management from production to disposal, such as real-time tracking and radiation monitoring to follow everyone's safety rules and protect people and the environment. However, these sources present significant global challenges, especially regarding safety, security, and transparency. Current systems face limitations such as fragmented oversight, lack of accountability, and risks of unauthorized access. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a blockchain-based radioactive source lifecycle management system to manage the lifecycle of radioactive sources. Blockchain's decentralized and tamper-proof ledger secures data throughout the entire lifecycle of radioactive materials. By using smart contracts and access controls, the system ensures that only authorized parties can monitor and verify transactions in real-time, which reduces human error and prevents unauthorized changes to the data. Users can perform key operations such as retrieving source details, transferring ownership, updating source locations, and adding observers to our proposed system. Our experiment in designing and testing a blockchain application has proven the potential for a secure and transparent system that enhances global cooperation in managing radioactive sources. Overall, the proposed system not only addresses current challenges in radioactive source management but also enhances the tracking and monitoring of radioactive materials. © 2025 IEEE.

We tackle the problem of enumerating set-theoretic solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation. This equation originates from statistical and quantum mechanics, but also has applications in knot theory, cryptography, quantum computation and group theory. Non-degenerate, involutive solutions have been enumerated for sets up to size 10 using constraint programming with partial static symmetry breaking [1];for general non-involutive solutions, a similar approach was used to enumerate solutions for sets up to size 8. In this paper, we use and extend the SAT Modulo Symmetries framework (SMS), to expand the boundaries for which solutions are known. The SMS framework relies on a minimality check;we present two solutions to this, one that stays close to the original one designed for enumerating graphs and a new incremental, SAT-based approach. With our new method, we can reproduce previously known results much faster and also report on results for sizes that have remained out of reach so far. NFL Scorigamis have a cult-like following, and occur whenever a game ends in a new, never-before-seen score. While substantial research has gone into simulating and predicting NFL game scores, most work has been in relation to winner prediction and betting spreads. We analyze a Poisson random variable model for the distribution of NFL game scores and show that it fails to incorporate important game dynamics. Through an analysis of extensive play-by-play data, we extend this to a non-stationary, state-dependent Poisson process model. This latter model more closely fits real NFL score data, and we use it in NFL score simulations to forecast likely future Scorigamis.

Facial expression detection is paramount in real-world applications, including patient monitoring, photo selection, and facial protection within the metaverse and virtual reality environments. Among various expressions, detecting smiles poses a significant challenge. Traditional methods relying on low-level face descriptors are being superseded by advancements leveraging Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to enhance smile detection performance. In this research, we introduce and implement three CNN architectures tailored for smile detection from facial images. Our proposed model incorporates a fully convolutional neural network featuring two deep convolutional layers dedicated to smile detection. Additionally, pre-trained LeNet and DenseNet CNNs are employed for this task. The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated through extensive evaluations of the Hromada dataset, encompassing images with and without smiles within the virtual reality environment. Moreover, we delve into detailed discussions on the practicality and efficacy of CNNs in facial expression detection, explicitly focusing on smile detection in real-time scenarios. Our experiments are conducted within a federated learning framework, enabling model inference and optimization for privacy preservation and scalability of the smile detection system in large-scale virtual reality applications. Through this decentralized approach, we address challenges related to real-time detection, model inference, and collaboration in the metaverse.

This work explores advanced methodologies for encrypting images by utilizing one-dimensional Group Cellular Automata (1-D GCA) and S-Box techniques, with a focus on their pivotal role in ensuring the security of digital images. The proposed approach amalgamates Cellular Automata and S-Box mechanisms within a framework of symmetric-key cryptography to augment the strength of encryption. Through the generation of pseudorandom sequences using 1-D GCA and the utilization of S-Box for substitution, the method accomplishes efficient pixel diffusion and confusion. The assessment criteria demonstrate noteworthy enhancements: Number of Pixels Change Rate (NPCR) at 99.9864%, Unified Average Changing Intensity (UACI) at 33.6130%, Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) at 9.2336 dB, and Mean Squared Error (MSE) at 0.1193. These findings underscore the robustness of the algorithm against statistical and differential attacks. The study justifies the promise of integrating GCA and S-Box strategies to reinforce cryptographic systems, proposing future avenues for enhancing computational efficiency and broadening applicability across diverse digital contexts.

Modern scientific applications are increasingly decomposable into individual functions that may be deployed across distributed and diverse cyberinfrastructure such as supercomputers, clouds, and accelerators. Such applications call for new approaches to programming, distributed execution, and function-level management. We present UniFaaS, a parallel programming framework that relies on a federated function-as-a-service (FaaS) model to enable composition of distributed, scalable, and high-performance scientific workflows, and to support fine-grained function-level management. UniFaaS provides a unified programming interface to compose dynamic task graphs with transparent wide-area data management. UniFaaS exploits an observe-predict-decide approach to efficiently map workflow tasks to target heterogeneous and dynamic resources. We propose a dynamic heterogeneity-aware scheduling algorithm that employs a delay mechanism and a re-scheduling mechanism to accommodate dynamic resource capacity. Our experiments show that UniFaaS can efficiently execute workflows across computing resources with minimal scheduling overhead. We show that UniFaaS can improve the performance of a real-world drug screening workflow by as much as 22.99% when employing an additional 19.48% of resources and a montage workflow by 54.41% when employing an additional 47.83% of resources across multiple distributed clusters, in contrast to using a single cluster.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) play a vital role in ensuring the success of Intelligent transport systems (ITS), but the architecture of VANETs is vulnerable to several security attacks. There are also some challenges associated with VANETs such as the management of large-scale dynamic heterogeneous networks and secure communication over the network. The research community stressed on the integration of Software-defined Networking (SDN) with traditional VANETs to address these challenges. The SDN enhances the functionality of traditional VANETs by adding a centralised control mechanism, programmability, and flexibility *** SDN also mitigates some security issues in VANETs to a limited degree. However, SDN's inherent features introduce new security vulnerabilities mainly in the control plane. This paper first examines the characteristics of SDN when integrated with VANETs. Then, this paper discusses the new security vulnerabilitiesthat arise as a result of the integration of SDN into VANET architecture. The mostcritical security attack in SDN-based VANETs is Denial of Service (DoS) attack. This paper also examines different types of DoS attacks in SDN-based VANETs along with their potentialdefence mechanisms. Finally, this paper highlights the future research directions in the domain of securing the network operations of SDN-based VANETs.

The emergence of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is driven by the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in the healthcare sector. IoMT represents the integration of healthcare devices, systems, and applications into a connected network that leverages the power of IoT. IoMT facilitates the seamless collection, sharing, and analysis of patient data to improve diagnosis, treatment, and overall healthcare quality. However, significant security concerns have arisen with the adoption of IoMT technologies in the healthcare sector. These vulnerabilities pose significant threats to the privacy of patient data as well as the integrity of the healthcare delivery system. In this paper, we first conduct a study on various vulnerabilities associated with IoMT environments. This article then presents various security attack vectors that compromise the integrity, security, and privacy of IoMT-driven healthcare systems. Finally, the paper concludes by highlighting future research directions in the domain of security in IoMT-powered healthcare systems.
