Modern high-performance, large-scale simulations require significant computational power, memory, and storage, making heterogeneous architectures an attractive option. The presence of accelerators in heterogeneous architectures makes model development hard. Domain-specific languages (DSLs) have successfully simplified model development, but designing a DSL to target heterogeneous architectures can be burdensome. Model-driven eng.neering (MDE) can simplify the development of DSLs targeting heterogeneous architectures. In this paper, we focus on MDE and propose a model-driven approach targeting Parallel Discrete Event Simulations on heterogeneous architectures. We exercise our MDE-generated models using a state-of-the-art runtime environment for heterogeneous architectures.

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) and serverless computing have emerged as foundational technologies for modern IT systems, such as e-commerce platforms, banking and insurance solutions, healthcare applications, and gaming systems. As these systems grow in complexity and scale, there is an increasing demand for advanced modelling approaches that enable software eng.neers to verify and simulate system components during the development and maintenance phases. The goal of our research is to apply Model-Driven eng.neering (MDE) techniques to build multi-faceted models of service-oriented systems, in order to ensure that transactions occur as expected, and ultimately evaluate whether a proposed design meets the goals and requirements of stakeholders. In this paper, we present work towards a prototype framework that leverages sequence diagrams, activity diagrams and goal models to represent the behaviour of the actual system as well as the intents of its stakeholders. The proposed framework aims to ensure the correctness and consistency among these multifaceted models, and any design changes are reflected in these models early in the software lifecycle, potentially uncovering noncompliant or unintended events and interactions.

The analysis of facial expressions is a powerful tool to decode nonverbal behavior in humans. Due to its importance, several studies have already been done in the past. However, facial expression recognition on wild and multi-label faces is under-investigated also due to the limited number of available databases. This paper fills in the current lack by challeng.ng the RAF-ML dataset and fixing the state-of-the-art performance of 50.5% on the "single label experiment". The proposed method is also tested in a second experiment, suggested by this work, which considers only wild faces having a dominant expression. The benchmark performance for the second trial is 56.1%. The deep-learning algorithms presented in this work are described in detail to facilitate their reproduction.
