Hemaspaandra et al. [6] and Carleton et al. [3, 4] found that many pairs of elec.oral (decision) problems about the same elec.ion system coincide as sets (i.e., they are collapsing pairs), which had previously gone undetected in the literature. While both members of a collapsing pair certainly have the same decision complexity, there is no guarantee that the associated search problems also have the same complexity. For practical purposes, search problems are more relevant than decision problems. Our work focuses on exploring the relationships between the search versions of collapsing pairs. We do so by giving a framework that relates the complexity of search problems via efficient reductions that transform a solution from one problem to a solution of the other problem on the same input. We not only establish that the known decision collapses carry over to the search model, but also refine our results by determining for the concrete systems plurality, veto, and approval whether collapsing search-problem pairs are polynomial-time computable or NP-hard. © 2023 International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems (***). elec.oral control refers to attacking elec.ions by adding, deleting, or partitioning voters or candidates [3]. Hemaspaandra et al. [16] discovered, for seven pairs (T, T ′) of seemingly distinct standard elec.oral control types, that T and T ′ are identical: For each input I and each elec.ion system E, I is a "yes" instance of both T and T ′ under E, or of neither. Surprisingly, this had gone undetected even as the field was score-carding how many standard control types elec.ion systems were resistant to;various "different" cells on such score cards were, unknowingly, duplicate effort on the same issue. This naturally raises the worry that other pairs of control types are also identical, and so work still is being needlessly duplicated. We determine, for all standard control types, which pairs are, for elec.ions whose votes are linear orderings of the candidates, always identical. We show that no identical control pairs exist beyond the known seven. For three central elec.ion systems, we determine which control pairs are identical ("collapse") with respect to those particular systems, and we explore containment/incomparability relationships between control pairs. For approval voting, which has a different "type" for its votes, Hemaspaandra et al.'s [16] seven collapses still hold. But we find 14 additional collapses that hold for approval voting but not for some elec.ion systems whose votes are linear orderings. We find one additional collapse for veto and none for plurality. We prove that each of the three elec.ion systems mentioned have no collapses other than those inherited from Hemaspaandra et al. [16] or added here. But we show many new containment relationships that hold between some separating control pairs, and for each separating pair of standard control types classify its separation in terms of containment (always, and strict on some inputs) or incomparability. Modern high-performance, large-scale simulations require significant computational power, memory, and storage, making heterogeneous architectures an attractive option. The presence of accelerators in heterogeneous architectures makes model development hard. Domain-specific languages (DSLs) have successfully simplified model development, but designing a DSL to target heterogeneous architectures can be burdensome. Model-driven eng.neering (MDE) can simplify the development of DSLs targeting heterogeneous architectures. In this paper, we focus on MDE and propose a model-driven approach targeting Parallel Discrete Event Simulations on heterogeneous architectures. We exercise our MDE-generated models using a state-of-the-art runtime environment for heterogeneous architectures.

Due to the technical complexity and social impact, automated vehicle (AV) development challeng.s the current state of automotive eng.neering practice. Research shows that it is important to consider human factors (HF) knowledge when developing AVs to make them safe and accepted. This study explores the current practices and challeng.s of the automotive industries for incorporating HF requirements during agile AV development. We interviewed ten industry professionals from several Swedish automotive companies, including HF experts and AV eng.neers. Based on our qualitative analysis of the semi-structured interviews, a number of current approaches for communicating and incorporating HF knowledge into agile AV development and associated challeng.s are discussed. Our findings may help to focus future research on issues that are critical to effectively incorporate HF knowledge into agile AV development. © 2023 IEEE.

Multimodal Machine Learning (MMML) has emerged as a promising topic with the ability to jointly utilize data from several data modalities to improve performance and address difficult real-world problems. Large-scale multimodal datasets and the availability of powerful computing resources have sped up the development of sophisticated deep learning architectures that are designed for multimodal data. In this paper, we conducted a systematic literature review focusing on the deep learning architectures used in MMML that combines image and text modalities. The objective of this paper includes looking at various models and deep learning architectures used in MMML with image and text data, learning about the fusion techniques used to combine both modalities, datasets that are used to train the models and limitations of these models. For this purpose, we have garnered 341 research articles from 5 digital library database and after an extensive review process, we have 75 research papers that allow us to thoroughly assess MMML. Our findings from these papers shed light on providing new directions for further study in this evolving and interdisciplinary domain.

User identification (UI) and channel estimation (CE) are essential in wireless networks with numerous users. Signature-code-based UI and CE schemes are widely used owing to their high spectral efficiency. Traditional signature code uses a discrete sensing matrix as a dictionary to generate codewords. Subsequently, the sparse vector recovery algorithm is used to recover the user state and channel state information in the received signal to complete the UI and CE. In this study, we propose an end-to-end machine-learning-aided signature code scheme under a multiple-access Rayleigh fading channel called machine-learning signature code (ML-SC). The ML-SC consists of a binarized-neural-networks-based (BNNs-based) trainable encoder and a trainable-iterative-soft-threshold-algorithm-based (TISTA-based) trainable decoder. To improve the accuracy, the dictionary is optimized by minimizing the mean squared error between the original and recovered information. Our proposed scheme achieved better performance and efficiency than the conventional schemes in the simulation. Moreover, it was confirmed that the dictionary generated by the ML-SC is suitable for various conventional decoders. Finally, by analyzing the results of the simulations, we found that ML-SC improves the restricted isometric constants and coherence of the dictionary.

VR can be used for creating situated learning environment, so most of research focused on applying VR on teaching and learning. Nevertheless, learning new information technology, including VR, is the educational target in senior high school. To eng.ge the learners in learning information technology is an important educational task. Therefore, this study developed a systematic learning modular for VR technology based on learning by doing strategy, conducted a one-semester learning experiment in a senior high school, and investigated the learners' perception towards VR technology learning. The results revealed that the learners showed high motivation and perception towards VR technology learning. However, some of learning dilemmas should be reduced in the future. © 2023 IEEE.

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) serves as a foundational technology for complex IT systems, such as e-commerce platforms, banking solutions, public-sector applications, and gaming systems. As these systems become increasingly intricate, the need for models that enable software eng.neers to simulate component interactions early in the software lifecycle becomes crucial. This approach helps identify potential issues during the design phase. The goal of this research is to apply digital twin model principles to simulate component transactions, message exchanges, and ultimately evaluate whether a given design meets the goals and requirements of stakeholders. In this paper, we outline ongoing work towards a prototype framework that uses sequence diagrams and activity diagrams to build digital twin models of service-oriented systems. The framework aims to ensure that any design changes are reflected in the digital twin model early in the software lifecycle, potentially uncovering non-compliant or unintended interactions.

Requirement conflicts commonly o ccur i n soft-ware development, especially for complex systems that involve many requirements. Resolving these conflicts c an b every time-consuming and costly. Moreover, due to the contextual nature of requirements conflicts, resolutionstrategies a re n eeded that can be tailored to a specific conflict an d it s co ntext. Currently, there is a lack of research on what categories of conflicts exist and how practitioners manage these conflicts. Toe nable more adaptive resolution strategies, the aim of this research is to map what types of requirement conflicts a re e ncountered a nd how they are managed in practice. Through an interview study with eleven participants from eight companies in six domains, we identified three levels of conflict ty pes th at co nnect to four types of causes. These types and causes revealed two main dimensions that impact conflict management. One dimension is related to the nature of the conflict, either technical or social, a nd the other dimension is related to the nature of the requirement scope, which is either too constraining or too undefined resulting in stakeholders making assumptions that create conflicts. We found that these two dimensions impact what conflict resolution strategies are most commonly used for different types of conflicts.

Fragile watermarking is the task of embedding a watermark in an image such that even small changes, called tamper, in the image can be detected or even recovered to preserve unauthorized alteration. A well-known type of spatial fragile watermarking embeds the watermark in the least significant bits of the image to measure correctness of the most significant bits. In addition, Hamming code is a coding algorithm in communication that transmits the data-bits by augmenting some check-bits to exactly detect and recover single-bit modifications. This property is used, in this paper, to detect and perfectly recover the images modified by a tamper with diameter less than a half of the diameter of the image. Based on our knowledge, this is the first time that perfect reconstruction is guaranteed in a high probable condition. To achieve this goal, the Hamming code is applied on a distributed pixel of which bits are extracted from far sufficient pixels in the image. According to the experimental results, the proposed method achieves better performance, in terms of recovering the tampered areas, in comparison to state-of-the-art. © 2021 IEEE.
