The rising prevalence of sleep disorders highlights their disastrous effects on health, well-being, cognitive performance, memory, and learning outcomes. Sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea normally require extensive instrumentation and expertise for diagnosis, which is not always possible or even available in most cases. This work, therefore, proposes a state-of-the-art use of Machine Learning (ML) to develop a model for the classification and detection of sleep patterns from electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The model is trained on a synthetic dataset, developed using mathematical simulations of real-life EEG data. This is a novelty in this area, which allows this model to be precise yet robust without relying too much on real-world *** application bridges advanced AI techniques with real-world applications and smooths out the experience for healthcare professionals and researchers alike. This research highlights how ML might transform sleep medicine through efficient, extended solutions for EEG data analysis and sleep disorder detection. We provide a realistic EEG simulation combined with an intuitive application, a powerful platform that makes advanced sleep diagnostics more accessible and impactful, which supports the development of educational strategies or technologies. © 2025 IEEE.

The growing presence of autonomous vehicles (AVs) on our roads has been applauded by many people, including those in the transportation, military, and logistics industries. However, an equally growing concern about AVs is that they raise new cybersecurity challenges, including the need for a robust digital forensic investigation framework to investigate incidents or criminal activities involving AVs. Of more concern is that traditional digital forensic methods have been found wanting when investigating incidents involving AVs. This is primarily due to the complex interplay of sensors, software, and human interaction involved in AV operation. In this research, therefore, the authors review existing digital forensic investigation frameworks for AVs and then analyse their strengths, weaknesses, and suitability for addressing various AV forensic challenges. Additionally, we analyse the potential legal and ethical implications of digital forensic investigations in AV contexts. The authors aim to identify key AV forensic challenges and future directions through this research. As a new contribution, the authors propose high-level ontological digital forensic investigation framework components as a starting point towards a comprehensive framework and the basis for further exploration and future research. This includes the future implementation of the proposed components into a fully-fledged ontological framework that supports efficient and reliable digital forensic investigation processes for autonomous vehicles. © 2024 IEEE.

A novel data-driven functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data analysis method is proposed using a deep object-centric learning paradigm. The method can faithfully estimate the variabilities in the spatial neural activation maps, which capture functional interconnections in the brain, over fMRI volumes. The key idea is to treat the component maps composing individual fMRI volumes as "objects,"whose latent representations are separately learned by a set of autoencoders. Numerical tests using synthetic and real data sets verify the advantages of the proposed method compared to existing matrix factorization-based approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

Image retrieval is one of the fundamental tasks in computer vision that involves searching and retrieving relevant images to a query from a large collection of images. It has applications in various domains, including online education, image search engines and disease diagnosis. For image owners, it is often cost-effective to avail third-party owned computation and storage resources such as a cloud paradigm, to facilitate their image retrieval application. However, in addition to the associated privacy risks during transmission, storage and computation;image owners lose control over their data, which is not desirable, especially for privacy sensitive data. Therefore, this work proposes a searchable encryption scheme that protects images in a way that their features can be extracted in the encryption domain to ensure privacy. Also, it allows image owners to encrypt images with their own keys before uploading them to the cloud-server, thus leaving them in control of their data. In addition, we propose a feature fusion technique that combines fuzzy logic and color micro-structures to define an image in a high-dimensional feature space for retrieval application. The simulation analysis shows that for non-secure image retrieval, proposed fusion technique delivered up to 3% better precision score. On the other hand, our proposed searchable encryption method degraded precision up to 2% at best for secure image retrieval applications compared to its non-secure counterpart. © 2024 IEEE.

Coarse-grained reconfigurable arrays (CGRAs) belong to the family of configurable processing architectures that have recently attracted increasing interest for their adaptability and efficiency. Research on CGRA architectures and their associated CAD tools is typically conducted empirically, by modelling a CGRA fabric, mapping applications onto it, and then assessing performance, power, and/or area (PPA). In this paper, we describe an open-source framework for such CGRA research - CGRA-ME - CGRA modelling and exploration. We describe the recently released version 2.0 of CGRA - ME, which incorporates a new mapping approach, support for elastic CGRAs, floating point, predication, hybrid RISC-V+CGRA systems, and more. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper introduces the novel design of a dualmode inductorless charge pump (CP) employing a fractional architecture with buck-boost capabilities. The proposed design uses various capacitor arrangements within a cross-coupled topology to generate fractional voltage ratios (1/3,1/2,2/3,3/2,2/1) in order to allow for a wide selection of voltage options. This configuration aims to minimize the die area while preserving high efficiency and low ripple. Furthermore, no pre-charing is required at startup. The proposed charge pump was designed using IHP 130nm metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology and simulated with industry-standard tools. © 2024 IEEE.

Automation is advancing rapidly, with infrared (IR) communication being a key method for controlling electronic devices. Despite this, challenges remain in optimizing IR controllers for consistent performance across varying angles and task loads. A 3D design and a robust algorithm have been developed to enhance the system's accuracy, while security is ensured by matching a unique TOKEN with the Telegram bot for each session. Error rates were analyzed across different angles, with specific zones determined based on performance. Minimal error rates defined the working zone, while higher rates indicated critical and invalid zones. Error rates increased as the transmitter moved further from the optimal angles, such as a 0-6 % error rate when operating within a 0° - 5° range. Reaction time was calculated across multiple tasks, showing an average of 5 seconds per command. Mismatch rates, observed during higher task loads, rose sharply when handling many tasks. For instance, the mismatch rate was 0 % for 12 tasks but 20 % when executing 20 tasks. Performance evaluations demonstrated optimal IR signal strength for reliable control within a distance of 10 to 15 inches, with diminishing effectiveness beyond 20 inches. These findings provide a foundation for developing more reliable and efficient IR control systems for practical applications. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and experimental validation of a stacked common-base power amplifier (PA) tailored for D-band communication systems. Leveraging 55 nm SiGe BiCMOS technology, the proposed PA architecture combines the superior gain compression performance of the common-base topology with the higher voltage swing provided by stacked-transistor power amplifiers. Experimental results demonstrate a peak output power of 19.7 dBm with only a 0.5 dB lower 1-dB compression point (o P1dB) of 19.2 dBm at 135 GHz. The power added efficiency (PAE) reaches 12.1% at saturation and 11.5% at o P1dB. © 2024 IEEE.

As the growth in satellite applications and the Internet is projected to extend beyond Earth into the solar system, satellite networks operating beyond Earth's orbit are becoming a major point of interest. These satellite networks are expected to implement the Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) architecture, which is specifically designed for networks with frequent intermittency, large delays, and high packet loss. The Licklider Transmission Protocol (LTP) is a specialized transport layer protocol used in space internetworking, providing reliability through retransmissions of the lost packets, with lower overhead compared to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). This paper presents an analysis of LTP performance for satellite-to-satellite Earth-to-Moon links, based on the physical layer parameters of these radio links. Specifically, we defined the link budget for such links and, using two different modulation methods, calculated the segment error probability (SER). Given the SER, LTP performance was evaluated in terms of transmission time for varying block sizes. Our results show that a lower modulation order leads to a lower SER, which in turn reduces transmission time and increases throughput. © 2024 IEEE.

Load scheduling plays a vital role in the home energy management systems. The main objective of this load scheduling is to balance the power demand and supply power without degrading the performance of the loads and consumers tolerance. Though many research works concentrate on load scheduling, very few works concentrated on real time scenario. On the other hand, research work concentrated on optimal load scheduling through fuzzy logic requires incorporation of fuzzy based system in either simulated or real-time home energy management system. Hence, the proposal aims to schedule the loads in a simulated home energy management system through fuzzy logic controller using MATLAB Simscape with required subsystems. The proposed simulated environment considers four different resistive loads. Intelligent scheduling is aimed to achieve efficient load scheduling. A fuzzy controller has three inputs namely integrated source, state of charge of battery, and power demand whereas probability of scheduling is considered as output. The efficiency of the proposed fuzzy-based load scheduling scheme is evaluated under various load conditions for different sub-systems with varying input power.
