As urbanization is expanding rapidly and vehicular traffic is on the rise, efficient and automated vehicle identification is a must. Smart transportation, safety monitoring, & police work all heavily rely on Automatic License Plate Detection (ALPD). Traditional heuristic-based image processing techniques are incapable of handling environmental variations; Artificial intelligence (AI) & machine vision solutions are therefore used. YOLO, Faster R-CNN, and SSD are some of the most effective CNN-based and object identification algorithms that demonstrate cutting-edge accuracy in license plate recognition. The paper studies the usage of deep learning algorithms with prepossessing and advanced localization methods for ALPDs' optical character recognition (OCR) and character segmentation. The research also studies integrating ALPD with edge computing and IoTs to develop real-time smart traffic solutions. It also examines machine learning techniques, deep learning innovations, and conventional methods, emphasizing how well various models perform in comparison in terms of accuracy, computational efficiency, and real-time processing power. By employing cutting-edge designs, this study seeks to increase the scalability and resilience of license plate recognition systems, which will support future urban development, security applications, as intelligent transportation management.

As robots pervade industrial environments, such as construction, manufacturing, and transportation, the fear of job displacement, lack of independence, and safety are natural concerns among workers. Prior survey-based research on the perception of robots in industrial environments show that education level, country of work, labor sector, self-identified gender, age, and minority status play an important role in shaping how workers view robots. When exploring demographic factors, such as gender, labor sector, or country of work, prior work has studied their impact independently. In our work we explore the strength of self-identified gender, country of work, and labor sector when it comes to a worker's sense of safety and task independence when working with a robot, fears of job safety due to the presence of robots in the workplace, and the type of assistance expected from a collaborative robot for lifting actions. We analyze responses acquired using a Google Forms online survey from 530 workers in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, and United States working in construction, contract work, manufacturing, retail, transportation & delivery, and warehousing. Our results show the self-identified gender, country of work, and the labor sector play distinct and significant roles in how workers expect collaborative workplace robots to provide assistance during lifting tasks. We find that country of work significantly influences perceptions of safety, independence, and job security.

Wafer defect detection is a critical aspect of semi-conductor manufacturing, where even minor defects can lead to significant performance issues or device failures. Traditional methods, such as rule-based approaches and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), have achieved moderate success but face limitations in scalability, adaptability, and the ability to model complex spatial patterns in high-resolution wafer imagery. These limitations make it critical to investigate advanced architectures that can accurately capture complex spatial relationships. Vision Transformers (ViTs) have emerged as a promising alternative within computer vision, offering global attention techniques that are particularly effective in recognizing long-range dependencies. This study evaluates the feasibility of ViTs for wafer defect detection through a literature-based empirical validation approach, synthesizing findings from prior research on ViT-based classification, defect localization, and industrial feasibility. Results indicate that ViTs offer superior accuracy and interpretability compared to CNN s, particularly in detecting rare and mixed-type defects. However, challenges remain in terms of computational cost and real-time deployment in high-throughput manufacturing settings. The findings of this study underscore the potential of ViTs as a transformative technology for semiconductor defect inspection while highlighting key areas for further development.

This article discusses optimizing energy Consumption in CRN-enabled Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) systems, presenting a novel approach to optimize the energy Consumption of a cognitive radio network-enabled MEC system using iterative optimization techniques. The proposed model aims to minimize the system's energy consumption while maintaining its performance and quality of service requirements. The iterative optimization algorithm is used to find the optimal allocation of resources, such as computing, communication, and power, among different nodes in the MEC system. As a result, the cognitive radio network enables efficient spectrum utilization by dynamically allocating available spectrum to different users based on their requirements. The performance evaluation approach is evaluated through simulations, and the results show that it can significantly improve the energy consumption of the MEC system while maintaining its performance and QoS requirements. This article contributes to developing sustainable and energy-efficient communication systems for future wireless networks. © 2023 IEEE.

When it comes to information, the internet is a gold mine. Whether you need data for your business, school, or personal use, you may uncover a wealth of information by performing an internet search. Web Scraping (WS) is a computerized method of obtaining big amounts of information from internet sites. The bulk of this information is in the form of unstructured HTML that would be transformed to structured data in a digital document before use in diverse applications. Although web scraping is not illegal, it might go against the ethics. This paper contains research-based findings of different methods of web scraping techniques used to extract data from websites. The various approaches used in this paper to obtain the results include requests library, selenium and other external libraries. Using the results obtained the findings are visualized through different graphs having contrasting parameters as measurements. Results obtained from our paper show that there is a lot of improvement needed to protect websites from web scraping bots. © 2022 IEEE.

This research addresses the dual challenges of image restoration quality and data privacy in optical remote sensing. Traditional restoration methods often fall short due to the complex nature of remote sensing images, and data privacy concerns further complicate the use of advanced techniques. By integrating the Deep Memory Connected Neural Network (DMCN) with the Data-Decoupled Federated Learning (DDFL) framework, our approach enables significant improvements in image restoration without requiring direct access to sensitive raw data. This method not only enhances data privacy by leveraging federated learning principles but also incorporates advanced techniques like Gaussian image denoising to maintain high restoration quality despite potential noise introduced by the federated process. The performance of the federated DMCN, particularly on the UCMERCED dataset, demonstrates minimal accuracy degradation, even in the presence of noise, while the strategic use of Downsampling Units within DMCN optimizes computational efficiency. Our comprehensive evaluations reveal the effectiveness of this approach in balancing data privacy with the need for high-quality image restoration, suggesting a promising direction for future advancements in remote sensing applications.

The multi-day intermodal trip planning problem (MITPP) is an optimization problem that finds the optimal route to visit points of interest (POIs) and hotels over days with multiple transportation such as walking and trains. Meanwhile, quantum annealers effectively solve the optimization problems by transforming the problems into quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO). However, the possible input QUBO size of the current quantum annealer is quite limited. In this paper, we propose a subQUBO annealing method for solving large-scale MITPPs. Also, we apply a correction processing to avoid constraint violation. Evaluation experiments show that the proposed method succeeds in obtaining high-quality solutions for large-scale MITPPs.

Hazardous sounds represent a particular type of danger signal and should be heard clearly to ensure safety. Hearing-impaired people can be involved in accidents. This is exacerbated by the fact that they may have difficulty hearing hazardous sounds. Therefore, they spend time with a hearing-assistance dog in their daily lives. However, the number of hearing-assistance dogs has decreased recently, and they are less known in society and they may even be prevented from entering public facilities. Therefore, an animal external ear model-based mobile device that can detect hazardous sounds has been proposed. This device can alert the hearing-impaired person. In this paper, the animal external attachment with a human- and a cat-external ear model-verified for hazardous sound detection accuracy by microphone sensor is presented. Microphone sensors with and without a human- and a cat-external ear model are used. An ambulance siren and a bicycle bell are used as the hazardous sounds, and the spectral envelopes of each recorded sound are compared. The results show that the animal external ear model-based microphone sensor can more effectively detect the frequency features of the ambulance siren and the bicycle bell. A microphone sensor attached an external attachment with a human-external ear model can detect 2 ∼ 3 kHz frequency features with the highest sound pressure compared to the other microphones, regardless of the distance between the microphone sensor and the sound source. Also, a microphone sensor attached an external attachment with a cat-external ear model can detect wide range of frequencies with the highest sound pressure compared to the other microphone sensors, regardless of the distance between the microphone sensor and the sound source. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

This research introduces an AI-Infused Firewall that revolutionizes network security by integrating artificial intelligence to detect and mitigate evolving cyber threats. Traditional firewalls often fall short in identifying novel and sophisticated vulnerabilities. Our proposed system addresses this limitation by dynamically adapting firewall rules based on real-time network traffic analysis and employing machine learning for packet classification. Quantum technologies have recently undergone a second quantum revolution, following the first that triumphed with the creation of quantum mechanics at the beginning of the twentieth century. Quantum computing promises to solve hard mathematical problems exponentially faster than classical supercomputers, and this poses serious threats to classical cryptography, whose security is based on deterministic hard-to-solve mathematical problems such as the factorial of large integers. © 2024 IEEE.
