Internet services are now accessible everywhere in the world due to the rapid advancement of networks and technology in recent decades. The development of information security solutions that can recognize novel threats is now critical due to the surge in piracy and the compromising of many modern systems. An intrusion detection system (IDS) is one of the most important information security technologies. It uses machine learning and deep learning algorithms to locate anomalies in the network. The main goal of this paper is to identify the unknown assault package by utilizing a novel intrusion detection method that offers excellent network performance. In this model, two techniques-binary classification and multiclass classification-that make use of a deep neural network algorithm are used to detect attacks. The suggested's outstanding accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

MOPO-HBT: A movie poster dataset for title extraction and recognition

Real-world images often encompass embedded texts that adhere to disparate disciplines like business, education, and amusement, to name a few. Such images are graphically rich in terms of font attributes, color distribution, foreground-background similarity, and component organization. This aggravates the difficulty of recognizing texts from these images. Such characteristics are very prominent in the case of movie posters. One of the first pieces of information on movie posters is the title. Automatic recognition of movie titles from images can aid in efficient indexing as well as information conveyance. However, it is accompanied by other texts like the names of actors, producers, taglines, dates, etc. Though the organization of components is somewhat similar across different film industries like Tollywood (West Bengal), Bollywood (Mumbai), and Hollywood (Los Angeles), the graffiti patterns differ in multifarious instances. To address the problem of movie title understanding, we propose a dataset named MOvie POsters-Hollywood Bollywood Tollywood (MOPO-HBT) that encompasses movie posters from the aforementioned industries. The entire dataset is publicly available (http://***/11564) for research purposes. The baseline results of title identification and recognition were obtained with a CNN-based (Convolutional Neural Network) approach, wherein the titles were extracted using the M-EAST (Modified-Efficient and Accurate Scene Text) detector model. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2023.

Challenges faced by traffic management in many developing nations across the globe is a result of the poor quality of road infrastructure. Inadequate and defective road infrastructure are major contributors to this effect. A key element that poses significant risk to road safety and that leads to increased road management cost is the increasing number of potholes and inefficient detection and reporting approach. This study provides an in-dept. exploration of the latest developments in pothole detection systems and examines various methodologies and technologies used in these systems, emphasizing the importance of real-time monitoring for proactive road maintenance. In addition, we proposed a system that addresses the persistent challenge of road infrastructure degradation by adopting cutting-edge technologies, including computer vision, machine learning, and sensor networks (such as ultrasonic and GPIO systems) that are used to identify and assess potholes on road surfaces. To achieve the aim of the study, the system adopts the use of RasberryPi 4 Model B for pothole detection and YOLOv4 for image processing. © 2024 IEEE.

In industry, the advancement of digital engineering and the digital thread aims to reduce the impact of knowledge ‘siloes’ by providing a way to integrate data across the entire system lifecycle and across multiple domains. In a typical engineering curriculum, however, courses are still treated as ‘siloes’, and students often do not have the opportunity to experience this industrially relevant approach to engineering. The Digital engineering Factory (DEF) is a digital engineering environment under development at the University of Arizona to support engineering students. The DEF supports students by providing access to multiple engineering tools and is structured using a ‘hub-and-spoke’ approach to consolidate data from these tools. Through this connected architecture, students can transfer data generated in a particular course to tools for use in other courses. Connecting course activities in this way enables students to experience a complete end-to-end system lifecycle. At its ‘hub’, the DEF uses Violet to integrate data from multiple sources, create a digital thread, and generate a graph representation of the dataset. This knowledge graph, written in the Ontological Modeling Language (OML), can be viewed in OML Rosetta and is structured according to the University of Arizona Ontology Stack (UAOS). The use of the UAOS and OML Rosetta allows instructors to leverage semantic web technologies to support teaching activities such as grading. In this paper, the authors review the objectives of the DEF, discuss the status of the project, and highlight current limitations and lessons learned with regards to its deployment. In the past few decades, Seizure Detection has been a vital cornerstone in biomedical research. Both hardware and software implementations have been explored to improve algorithms, detection performance and resources. In this paper, three handcrafted features composed of Coastline Function, Hurst Exponent and Fractal Dimension are used as training data for supervised learning models to build an efficient and sensitive seizure detector. Random Forest classifier exhibits the best accuracy at 98%. Hardware efficiency, too, is exploited through a modified Feature Extractor that combines the aforementioned features. The features are adjusted to reduce their hardware resources on Virtex-7 FPGA. The area utilization is improved by 10%, power utilization is improved by 20% and latency decreased by 32%. © 2024 IEEE.

The proliferation of 5G technologies has presented challenges such as signal attenuation and high energy consumption. This study proposes a novel approach to enhance wireless networks by integrating Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize signal propagation and predict the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). A new framework combines K-means clustering for IRS deployment with a Temporal Convolutional Network-Gated Recurrent Unit (TCN-GRU) model for signal prediction. Using data from 15,000 Wi-Fi access points in Herefordshire, UK, the results demonstrate significant improvements in signal strength, with the proposed model achieving a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 37% lower than the existing models, indicating higher prediction accuracy. In addition to enhancing signal quality, the framework achieves throughput increases of 21.26% with single-group IRS and 64.91% with multi-group IRS. These results validate the proposed the potential of the framework to improve performance, making it suitable for next-generation wireless networks. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and implementation of an Internet of Thing (IOT)-based long-distance fire-extinguishment system named 'Stationary 3-Axis Fire-Emergency Response Base' (STAFERB). The system aims to provide immediate response to fire hazards in various environments, including residential areas, building complexes, commercial areas, small-scale industries, large factories, dense slum areas, and remotely located forest regions. The proposed STAFERB is designed to receive fire location coordinates, fire intensity, and probable cause information. It then calculates the path of a projectile based on considering obstacles and self-detection of a clear line of sight to reach the t1arget location. The system uses this information to select the appropriate speed and type of fire retardant. The designed STAFERB features robust communication, self-path detection, auto-orientation, and reduced response time, making it a significant advancement in fire-fighting technology. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed STAFERB in mitigating fire hazards and hence can be well suited for real-time disaster management. © 2025 IEEE.

Human activity prediction has become increasingly prevalent in a plethora of time-critical applications. To realize accurate identification and prediction of human behaviour, we propose a situation-aware wearable computing system. A wearable computing system has the capability to perceive, comprehend and project situations by analyzing the human behavioral patterns in different environments. In particular, this work proposes a situation-aware human activity prediction (SA-HAP) approach based on sequential pattern mining that aims to anticipate future activities and tailor its responses according to situations by analyzing frequent sequential patterns and their correlations to understand how these situations are interrelated. The approach not only improves prediction accuracy but also provide the foundation for a more informed decision-making process, as the projected situations can be explained using the identified behavioral patterns. The approach is compared with other traditional techniques for activity prediction (LSTM and HMM), achieving better performance on the Extrasensory dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

The goal of this research is to create an optimized hybrid coupler structure for a PIN diode reflection type phase shifter (RTPS) operating at microwave frequencies. To date, no phase shifter has been reported with the proposed technique, compactness, minimum phase error and balanced amplitude. Another limitation of designing such structures at such high frequency range, is that the 50Ω impedance lines' width approaches its length for given substrate thickness, that is undesirable. This study introduces a new method of developing a module at 100 Ω and translating it back to 50 Ω at the input and output terminals. Moreover, the proposed design is highly resilient to manufacturing constraints owing to the addition of radial stubs instead of lumped components, as reflective loads. Its performance with respect to its bandwidth coverage is better with 15% bandwidth enhancement, insertion loss around 3dB, and reflection co-efficient at all ports is better than -15dB over the whole operating bandwidth. The simulated and measured results validate the proposed design effectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Amidst rapid urbanization and fluctuating climatic patterns, the world witnessed a surge in mosquito-borne diseases, escalating global health concerns. Mosquitoes, often dismissed as mere irritants, are carriers for a spectrum of conditions, including malaria, dengue, and the Zika virus, with WHO reporting large numbers of dengue cases annually. This review delves deep into the observation of mosquito behavior and the challenges in eradicating these pests, emphasizing the inefficacy of singular sensory targeting repellents. This paper introduces a pioneering device, combining the mosquito's affinity towards light with the suffocating effects of metofluthrin, offering a holistic solution. By the combination of advanced engineering with a comprehensive understanding of mosquito behavioral dynamics, this device promises not only to repel but to substantially reduce these vectors, fostering safer indoor spaces.
