The IT industry is beginning to mirror a trend of specialization and outsourcing that has been present for decades in other industries, such as the automotive industry. We are beginning to see the emergence of specialist service providers, such as CRM services and market places, payment and settlement services, bill presentment services and many others. Organizations increasingly use these services in complex enterprise application systems using web service infrastructures. Unlike the automotive industry, however, the IT industry does not yet have an agreed way to manage web service quality. In this talk, I will focus on managing the service quality of web services that are used across organizational boundaries. I discuss the systematic definition of formal service level agreement languages that support the precise definition of service quality, such as latency, throughput, availability and reliability. I present how service level agreements written in these languages can be used and describe how service level agreements can be policed. I conclude the talk by sketching further research that is necessary before we have a similar grip on quality as other engineering disciplines. Copyright 2006 ACM.

With the recent spreading of social networks and digital communities, the Web has a new business model for providing free content-sharing services. Using the power of the masses and the collective intelligence, Web 2.0 sites have created enormous e-commerce opportunities for marketing and advertising. Thus, there is still a necessity of developing tools to help users to reach good decisions in such frameworks. We propose to manage this collective intelligence with a Decision Support System (DSS). It allows that users with similar user profiles that the potential customer can advice him/her according with their own experiences in their e-commerce activities. From user preferences the DSS obtains a collective advice that helps customers to make decisions related with their e-commerce activities.

Modern softwareengineering practices lead to large models which exist in many versions. Version management systems should offer a service to compare, and possibly merge, these models. The computation of a difference between large models is a big challenge;current algorithms are too inefficient here. We present a new technique for computing differences between models. In practical tests, this technique has been an order of magnitude faster than currently known algorithms. The main idea is to use a high-dimensional search tree for efficiently finding similar model elements. Individual elements are mapped onto a vector of numerical values using a collection of metrics for models and a numerical representation of the names which occur in a model. Copyright 2007 ACM.
