Code reviews are an integral part of software development and have been recognized as a crucial practice for minimizing bugs and favouring higher code quality. They serve as an important checkpoint before committing code and play an essential role in knowledge transfer between developers. However, code reviews can be time-consuming and can stale the development of large software projects. In a recent study, Guo et al. assessed how ChatGPT3.5 can help the code review process. They evaluated the effectiveness of ChatGPT in automating the code refinement tasks, where developers recommend small changes in the submitted code. While Guo et al.’s study showed promising results, proprietary models like ChatGPT pose risks to data privacy and incur extra costs for software projects. In this study, we explore alternatives to ChatGPT in code refinement tasks by including two open-source, smaller-scale large language models: CodeLlama and Llama 2 (7B parameters). Our results show that, if properly tuned, the Llama models, particularly CodeLlama, can achieve reasonable performance, often comparable to ChatGPT in automated code refinement. However, not all code refinement tasks are equally successful: tasks that require changing existing code (e.g., refactoring) are more manageable for models to automate than tasks that demand new code. Our study highlights the potential of open-source models for code refinement, offering cost-effective, privacy-conscious solutions for real-world software development. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Driving behavior classification plays an important role in many real-world applications, including traffic accident prevention, driver safety, usage-based insurance, and optimizing ridesharing services. In this research, we introduce a novel approach called Hybrid ConvLSTM with Attention for Driver Behavior Classification (HCLA-DBC), designed to achieve precise and reliable driver behavior classification. Our main focus is to distinguish three fundamental driving behavior classes: normal, drowsy, and aggressive, which play a vital role in supporting advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). To evaluate the performance of our proposed models, we conducted experiments using the publicly available UAH-DriveSet dataset. The evaluation comprised six distinct models, encompassing two machine learning models (SVM and Gradient Boosting) and four deep learning models (CNN, MLP, LSTM, and HCLADBC). Our HCLA-DBC model outperformed all other models and previous results on the same data. On the test data, it achieved an accuracy of 94.12%, precision of 94.24%, recall score of 94.12%, F1-score of 94.12%, and a macro-average ROC AUC of 98.83. These exceptional outcomes underscore the efficacy of our hybridized approach and its potential to significantly enhance driver behavior classification. The HCLA-DBC model not only promises new possibilities for driver behavior analysis but also paves the way for elevated ADAS capabilities and safer driving experiences. © 2023 IEEE.

Global warming has increased large-scale natural disasters at an alarmingly greater frequency. These natural disasters affect humans and the ecosystems that all species rely upon for food and shelter. A significant byproduct of global warming is the emergence of mega-fires, which are wildfires that burn more than 100,000 acres. Mega fires have exhibited the capacity to destroy entire ecosystems and urban areas. Researchers forecast a significant increase in wildfires during the next decade. This is a fundamentally growing problem that mandates modern solutions. Currently, simulation models are employed to predict wildfire propagation and aid firefighters in suppressing them. However, these methods are computationally expensive and often inaccurate. A recent advance in this area is the usage of neural networks (NN), which are systematically more accurate and computationally efficient. This paper focuses on predicting wildfire spread using NN with an attention mechanism to improve spatial recognition and overall performance in neural networks for wildfire spread prediction. We train different models on 12 distinct observational variables derived from the Google Earth Engine catalog. Evaluation is conducted with accuracy, Dice coefficient score, ROC-AUC, and F1-score. Results show that when augmenting segmentation models with attention mechanisms, the attention component improves feature suppression and recognition, improving overall performance. Furthermore, we use ensemble modeling to reduce bias and variation, leading to more consistent and accurate predictions. The architecture presented in this research achieved a ROC-AUC score of 86.2% and an accuracy of 82.1% when inferencing on wildfire propagation at 30-minute intervals. © 2023 IEEE.

The DC link capacitor discharge in the event of a DC fault is rapid and contains high frequencies. This rapid discharge of high current and frequency interface with DC bus, Voltage Source Converter (VSC), and AC source. This interface damages the equipment and possibly living beings in proximity. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a topology to detect and identify fault types promptly, along with the isolation and restoration of the system. This study introduces an improved novel fault detection technique using the Highpass Chebyshev type 2 filter due to its flatter pass-band response. Further, the polarities of peaks obtained from the fault detection calculation are used again for another proposed novel fault location method. It identifies fault types to locate and isolate the faulty system using only polarities of amplitude response peaks. In the simulation, both methods were fast and accurate in detecting, locating, and identifying appropriate fault types only by High Pass Filter (HPF) amplitude response peaks and their polarities. © 2024 IEEE.

The security of industrial networks, particularly in industrial automation systems, is critical for ensuring system reliability and protecting sensitive data. This paper proposes a deeper anomaly detection system using the ResNet34 (Residual Network) model to identify and detect cyber-attacks in industrial networks, specifically focusing on Controller Area Network (CAN) systems. The study highlights the vulnerabilities in industrial communication protocols, such as CAN, Modbus, and Ethernet/IP, which are susceptible to cyber-attacks including replay, modification, and fuzzing attacks. These attacks can disrupt the functioning of industrial systems and cause significant damage. Experimental results show that the proposed model achieves a 100 % detection rate for all types of cyber-attacks, demonstrating its effectiveness in recognizing abnormal patterns and responding to changes in network behavior. The results confirm that the ResNet34-based deep anomaly detection model can be a valuable tool for strengthening the security of industrial networks by providing real-time detection of cyber-attacks, thereby ensuring the stability and safety of industrial automation systems.

The cryptocurrency boom has resulted in a substantial rise in energy usage and carbon emissions. The mining process of Bitcoin is notorious for its energy intensive process because it requires huge computational power. The carbon footprint of Bitcoin mining is a growing concern that's why we have to analyze the number of CO2 emissions resulting from the mining procedure. In this study, we have utilized machine learning techniques to examine the number of CO2 emissions generated by Bitcoin mining, analyzed the correlations between Bitcoin price, electricity consumption, and CO2 emissions, and pinpoint the factors during the process of Bitcoin mining that leads to CO2 emissions. We gathered global data set on Bitcoin electricity consumption, prices, and CO2 emissions. We trained supervised machine learning model (Regression) in Python to analyze and investigate the data. Our research findings have great implications for policymakers and researchers worried about the impact of the latest technologies on the environment, and in future Bitcoin policies and practices;they should prioritize sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of mining operations. In the end, our research will provide valuable insights into the environmental impact of Bitcoin mining, highlight the factors that cause CO2 emissions and underscored the need for further research and action to reduce the carbon footprint of cryptocurrencies. © 2024 IEEE.

This proposal outlines the development of a comprehensive educational platform aimed at bridging the Information Technology knowledge gap among Tamil-speaking students in Sri Lanka. The platform is designed to enhance programming skills through personalized quizzes, hands-on projects, and adaptive learning models. The application focuses on two primary components: the first component emphasizes project-based learning and assessments, leveraging advanced Artificial Intelligence models for generating educational content. This model is combined with Retrieval-Augmented Generation, which retrieves relevant external information to refine and tailor the educational content to each student's needs. This component keeps students engaged and challenged at appropriate levels, promoting deeper understanding and practical Information Technology skills. The second component involves a Level-based IT Fundamental Knowledge Evaluation system, which incorporates machine learning algorithms to predict student performance, recommend customized learning paths, and assess overall technical knowledge. The platform also integrates the OpenAI Application Programming Interface, which provides real-time Tamil translation, making the content more accessible to the target demographic. The platform empowers educators to better address individual student needs with real-time feedback and tailored experiences. The industrial sector has entered a phase of profound change which sees digital technologies being integrated into the heart of industrial processes. This fourth industrial era gives birth to a new generation of factory called 'Digital Factory', 'Industry 4.0'. This industrial change is the result of the integration of new digital technologies into manufacturing processes and the optimization of energy consumption. The commitment to the environment is also a key and success factor of Industry 4.0 and green in particular the reduction of carbon emissions and pollution. This is how smart green industry try to take in charge the problem of energy consumption and to reduce the Co2 pollution. The goal of this paper is to present the new model of smart green industry using distributed artificial intelligence based on multi-agent system (MAS). The motivation to use the intelligent approach based on MAS is based on the similarity between the fundamental concepts of the cyber-physical system and those contained in the architecture and operation of MAS such as communication, coordination, decision and cooperation. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel fifteen-level two-source inverter topology that is reliable against source outages. The topology has two DC sources, a total of ten switches, and four DC-link capacitors. Level-shifted PWM is used to generate the required number of levels. Simulations are performed for normal operation as well as for the source outage conditions. The proposed topology is able to generate multi-level output waveform satisfactorily even at the advent of source outages. The simulation results for the source outages are presented for both static and dynamic conditions along with the THD measurements. © 2023 IEEE.

As applications in IT have been spanning multiple containers across servers, kubernetes is being used extensively for automating software deployment, scaling and management. Kubernetes eases the container tasks and also other activities like horizontal scaling and canary development. To run cloud-native applications, kubernetes has become the de facto standard for container orchestration, regardless of the underlying platform. This makes it very crucial to have a disaster recovery plan for kubernetes environments. This paper proposes a system for backup and restore of a kubernetes cluster using the snapshot method along with the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates of a cluster. It also focuses on automating the backup and restore operations using microservices. Furthermore, it makes use of Amazon Web Services (AWS) tools for the reliability, scalability and the automation of backup and restore operations. The user can run the proposed microservices to backup and restore the cluster from any specific timestamp before the disaster. The experimental results demonstrate the effective performance of the proposed method in terms of efficiently restoring the kubernetes cluster in optimal time. © 2023 IEEE.
