To recommend newly-published papers that did not receive any citations yet, this paper proposes a novel method by using the authors' interest on the papers cited in the newlypublished paper. Compared to citation-network based methods, the empirical validation shows a significant improvement with our method in accuracy of 11%-41% in precision and 8%-34% in recall.

As a number of social network services appear online recently, there have been many attempts to analyze social networks for extracting valuable information. Most existing methods first represent a social network as a quite sparse adjacency matrix, and then analyze it through matrix operations such as matrix multiplication. Due to the large scale and high complexity, efficient processing multiplications is an important issue in social network analysis. In this paper, wepropose aGPU-based method for efficient sparse matrix multiplication through the parallel computing paradigm. The proposed method aims at balancing the amount of workload both at fine- and coarse-grained levels for maximizing the degree of parallelism in GPU. Through extensive experiments using synthetic and real-world datasets, we show that the proposed method outperforms previous methods by up to three orders-of-magnitude. © 2015 ACM.

Extracting high I/O performance from parallel file systems is no longer the only goal in modern data centres. As issues of the Energy Wall and the Reliability Wall become unavoidable, it is a demanding and challenging task to reduce energy consumption in large-scale storage systems in modern data centres while retaining acceptable systems reliability. Most energy conservation techniques inevitably have adverse impacts on the parallel disk systems. To address the reliability issues of energy-efficient parallel storage systems, we propose a reliable energy-efficient storage system called RESS, which aims at improving both energy efficiency and reliability of parallel storage systems by seamlessly integrating HDDs and SSDs. At the heart of the RESS is a transformative middleware layer, which reorganizes the I/O workload for the underlying parallel file systems. With the help of the middleware layer, RESS can distribute popular data to SSDs and put HDDs into the low-power mode under light workload conditions without modification of the parallel systems.

The progressive scaling of semiconductor technologies has led to significant performance improvements in digital designs. However, ultra-deep sub-micron technologies have increased the vulnerability of VLSI designs to soft errors. It is crucial to analyze this vulnerability early in the design process. In this paper we propose a new technique to model, analyze and estimate the propagation of Single Event Upsets (SEUs) in combinational designs at the Register Transfer Level (RTL) using Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT). The propagation of SEUs through RTL bit-vector constructs is modeled as a Satisfiability problem using the SMT theory of bit-vectors. Two different analysis techniques, concrete and abstract modeling, are used in order to investigate the efficiency and accuracy of a data type reduction technique for soft error analysis. Concrete modeling uses two versions of the design, one faulty and one fault-free, in order to analyze SEU propagation. Abstract modeling uses data type reduction to evaluate the difference in performance and accuracy over the first method. Experimental results demonstrate that the loss in accuracy due to abstract modeling depends on the design behavior. For example, for some circuits, the loss in accuracy was arround 73%, while for other circuits it was as low as 0.03%. However, abstract modeling allows reducing processing time significantly and an average reduction factor of 3.88 is reported.

Cellular and device-to-device (D2D) communication may cause significant inter-cell interference (ICI) at a neighboring base station (BS). In this work, we aim to maximize the sum rate of a cellular user (CU) and a D2D pair, with receive beamforming at the BS equipped with multiple antennas, subject to per-node power, maximum ICI, and minimum SINR constraints. We propose an efficient algorithm to maximize the sum rate in two steps. We first consider the D2D admissibility problem to determine whether the D2D pair can share the spectrum with the CU while satisfying all the constraints and SINR requirements. We then obtain the optimal beam vector and the optimal power levels of the CU and D2D transmitters in closed form. The performance of the proposed algorithm is studied numerically. It is shown the proposed optimal solution substantially outperforms a CU-priority heuristic approach that selects the maximum CU power with minimum D2D interference. © 2015 IEEE.

Rapid development of information and communications networks and the widespread distribution of smartphones have contributed to the steady increase in Internet utilization. This increase in Internet consumption has resulted in the creation of various services including web services, SNS (Social Networking Services), Internet banking, and remote processing systems, enhancing the quality of life globally. However, serious information security problems have surfaced alongside these services, leading to Internet privacy invasions and network attacks. This paper presents a process to detect anomalous traffic using selfsimilarity analysis in the ATMSim environment as a research method to resolve these problems. In order to measure anomalous traffic, normal traffic for each attack including ARP spoofing and DDoS was measured for 48 hours. Hadoop is employed to process the massive traffic data collected and MapReduce was used after storing the data in HDFS. The detection system ATMSim, which is a new platform operating on Hadoop, is used to identify anomalous traffic, and a comparative analysis of the normal and anomalous traffic was performed through a self-similarity analysis. The collected traffic was divided into four categories according to the attack method: normal LAN traffic, DDoS attack, ARP spoofing, and DDoS and ARP spoofing attacks. The anomalous traffic detection system ATMSim was used to simulate for each scenario and distinguish normal and anomalous traffic in order to determine whether real attacks can be effectively identified. Graphic and quantitative analyses based on the self-similarity estimation for the four different traffic types showed that, unlike normal traffic such as the LAN traffic, the graphic analysis revealed a burstiness phenomenon when anomalous traffic occurred and the self-similarity estimation values were also high.

One of the most notable features of collectible card games is deckbuilding, that is, defining a personalized deck before the real game. Deckbuilding is a challenge that involves a big and rugged search space, with different and unpredictable behaviour after simple card changes and even hidden information. In this paper, we explore the possibility of automated deckbuilding: a genetic algorithm is applied to the task, with the evaluation delegated to a game simulator that tests every potential deck against a varied and representative range of human-made decks. In these preliminary experiments, the approach has proven able to create quite effective decks, a promising result that proves that, even in this challenging environment, evolutionary algorithms can find good solutions.

Bidirectional dc-dc converter allows transfer of energy between two dc buses. As renewable energy systems are fluctuating in nature we use a energy storage system, bidirectional dc-dc converter allows exchange of energy between storage system and the system. Bidirectional dc-dc boost converter can be utilized to step-up voltage level in renewable energy sources which reduces the ripple content in output. This paper focuses on Integration of Multilevel converter with bidirectional dc-dc converter by connecting to a common DC bus to feed AC motor drives. multilevel converters has low ripple content, can generate near sinusoidal voltages with only fundamental switching which is very suitable for large motor drives this paper focuses on low frequency, high power applications of AC motor drives by employing a Hysteresis current control.

Aggregate nearest neighbor queries return a point with a minimum net distance from a set of query points. Consider, for example, group of friends located at specific locations (query points) that want to meet at a restaurant (a point) such that they travel the minimum sum of distances in order to meet. In this paper, we proposed a fast algorithm, A2 N2 , to answer such aggregate nearest neighbor queries on road networks based on pre-computation. An assortment of optimized data structures and techniques are used so as to reduce the overall computation time. Additionally, by focusing on reducing the amount of pre-computed data stored and using efficient ways to retrieve and use them during query time, the algorithm is computationally faster at the cost of being minimally approximate. Experiments on real road network data sets demonstrate the impact of input parameters on the query processing time and supports the claim. It was observed that the pre-computation time and query processing time for A2 N2 was respectively in the orders of up to 1000 and 100 times faster than that of a Voronoi based ANN approach. The minimum normalized path distance deviation across all data sets for A2 N2 was only 2% with the computed path distances comparable to a Voronoi based approach.
