This contribution proposes a genetic learning process for designing the knowledge base of Fuzzy Rule-Based classification Systems, that will be used as binary classifiers in a One-vs-One decomposition for multi-class problems. A Genetic Algorithm is designed to adapt the number of fuzzy labels per variable (granularity level) for each classifier in order to improve the accuracy rate of a multi-class classifier. The genetic learning process evolves granularity levels and needs a fuzzy rules generation method for generating the whole knowledge base of the Fuzzy System. Several data-sets from KEEL data-set repository are used in the experimental study and we compare our proposal with three related methods: the standard way to design Fuzzy Rule-Based Classification Systems using the fuzzy rules generation method chosen with and without One-vs-One decomposition, and our proposal of genetic granularity level learning without One-vs-One decomposition.

In many developing countries, agriculture is one of the primary livelihoods of common people. Agriculture requires various types of technologies for improving crop yields. The attack of animals in the agricultural land and the theft of crops by humans cause heavy loss in cultivation. In this work, we propose a hardware prototype using Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for intruder detection in an agricultural field. The proposed system is named Agricultural Intrusion Detection (AID). AID helps to generate alarms in the farmer's house and at the same time transmits a text message to the farmer's cell phone when an intruder enters into the field. In order to implement the proposed scheme, we design and deploy Advanced Virtual RISC (AVR) micro-controller-based wireless sensor boards over an outdoor environment and evaluate the performance.

Ontologies are reusable artifacts within the software engineering filed that are a pillar of the Semantic Web. Created in a different context, they can be adapted and applied in another context. This paper endeavors to develop a knowledge base in the form of an ontology that formalizes all aspects to do with culture and thus contribute to the preservation and dissemination of cultural knowledge. Written in the context of a small African country (Botswana), the ontology is expected to be generic enough to be adaptable and reusable in the global context. Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, livelihoods, religion, traditional medicine, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. Culture is transmitted orally from father to son, mother to daughter or teacher to a student. However, this knowledge is gradually lost as many young people migrate to popular culture. The absence of tools and technologies that aide in the preservation and dissemination of cultural knowledge lead to the gradual loss of cultural valuable information that could be useful for tourism, and learning. Information currently representing elements that define culture is dispersed, heterogeneous, disjointed, in varying stages of formalization and digitization, and distributed in collections of different memory organizations at different locations. As a solution, this paper introduces ontologies to formulate an efficient way to preserve and represent cultural knowledge. The benefits of the cultural ontology include, reuse, sharing, and portability of knowledge across platforms. Overall, the cultural knowledge ontology leads to a better understanding of concepts in the cultural domain and to a more effective and efficient way of handling information about concepts in the cultural knowledge domain.

Since Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have received great attention and momentum, security has become a crucial issue for them. Denial of Service attack (DoS) represents a serious threat on WMNs due to their plug-and-play architecture. Unfortunately, a DoS attack still very hard to stop due to the uncontrolled spoofing of source IP addresses. The best solution to this is to fix the problem at its root by guessing the source of attack. As a solution to this dilemma, numerous approaches have been suggested to support IP traceability. In this work, we focus on Wireless Mesh Network WMN (IEEE 802.11s standard). We design a signaling architecture, based on previous works, in order to trace anonymous IP packets back towards their source(s), where a simple security-oriented signaling protocol permits specialized signaling entities to exchange reliable signaling information that allows performing a simple and efficient traceback. This solution represents a novel and efficient approach to deal with the traceback problem in WMN environments.

Image retrieval and computer vision rely heavily on noise removal and image hole padding to ensure the accurate rendering of images from dept. cameras. Noise can undermine the accuracy of dept. values, resulting in object occlusion and temporal variation in dept. pixels. This paper proposes an efficacious approach to dealing with this problem based on an exemplar-based inpainting method for the removal of noise from object-removed images obtained using RGB-D cameras. The proposed method was also applied to the Tsukuba Stereo database, which provides 3D video with ground truth disparity maps. Experiment results were evaluated in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and computation time. Moreover, the self-recorded RGB-D dept. images database was used to verify the corrections in spatial and temporal variation of dept. values. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing the original occluded dept. images with the images being processed.

Recent advances in neuroscience have shown that the neuropathological disorders are closely related with diseases such as Alzheimer's. Those damages are particularly associated with the intermediate visual perceptual processing which can cause the motion perception defects and abnormal visuo-spatial functions in daily living of patients. In this paper, we propose a virtual reality based assessment tools for measuring human perceptual sensitivity to dynamic erroneous motions, particularly designed to assess possible early stage of brain damages and its associated visual dysfunctions. The proposed method contains multiple assessment layers to check the awareness of erroneous motion in natural scenes at various severities. Our VR based game type environment provides an effective test bed for various dynamic motion based perceptual sensitivity experiments. Our initial human subject tests show that game based test environment produces more coherent and consistent data, preferable to survey based methods. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

An automated assembly task on production lines requires robotic manipulation of a target when the target is moving. Due to complicated environments and multi-tasking, vision occlusion and uncertainty of dynamics of a gripper/target may happen. Therefore, we developed a vision guided robotic system composed of a target motion estimation-based visual tracking controller and an adaptive controller. The target motion estimation-based visual tracking controller enables the system to estimate target positions and velocities and compute desired robotic positions and velocities based on previous estimates even if the target is not viewed occasionally. Moreover, a robotic end-effector is controlled with the adaptive controller to pursue and catch the target even if the target and gripper parameters are not exactly known. In experiments, interceptions of the target moving at different speeds by using different grippers based on visual feedback were presented to demonstrate good performance on efficiency and robustness of the proposed method.

software static analysis is one of many options for finding bugs in software. Like compilers, static analyzers take a program as input. This paper covers tools that examine source code - without executing it - and output bug reports. Static analysis is a complex and generally undecidable problem. Most tools resort to approximation to overcome these obstacles and it sometimes leads to incorrect results. Therefore, tool effectiveness needs to be evaluated. Several characteristics of the tools should be examined. First, what types of bugs can they find? Second, what proportion of bugs do they report? Third, what percentage of findings is correct? These questions can be answered by one or more metrics. But to calculate these, we need test cases having certain characteristics: statistical significance, ground truth, and relevance. Test cases with all three attributes are out of reach, but we can use combinations of only two to calculate the metrics. The results in this paper were collected during Static Analysis Tool Exposition (SATE) V, where participants ran 14 static analyzers on the test sets we provided and submitted their reports to us for analysis. Tools had considerably different support for most bug classes. Some tools discovered significantly more bugs than others or generated mostly accurate warnings, while others reported wrong findings more frequently. Using the metrics, an evaluator can compare candidates and select the tool that aligns best with his or her objectives. In addition, our results confirm that the bugs most commonly found by tools are among the most common and important bugs in software. We also observed that code complexity is a major hindrance for static analyzers and detailed which code constructs tools handle well and which impede their analysis.

Non-interference (NI) is a property of systems stating that confidential actions should not cause effects observable by unauthorized users. Several variants of NI have been studied for many types of models, but rarely for true concurrency or unbounded models. This work investigates NI for High-level Message Sequence Charts (HMSC), a scenario language for the description of distributed systems, based on composition of partial orders. We first propose a general definition of security properties in terms of equivalence among observations, and show that these properties, and in particular NI are undecidable for HMSCs. We hence consider weaker local properties, describing situations where a system is attacked by a single agent, and show that local NI is decidable. We then refine local NI to a finer notion of causal NI that emphasizes causal dependencies between confidential actions and observations, and extend it to causal NI with (selective) declassification of confidential events. Checking whether a system satisfies local and causal NI and their declassified variants are PSPACE-complete problems.

A matrix multiplication is a building block for social networks analysis. Recently, there have been various methods proposed for GPU-based matrix multiplications. NVIDIA, one of major manufacturers of GPUs, has also proposed various matrix multiplication methods based on GPUs. In this paper, we introduce the methods, and evaluate their performance via extensive experiments using synthetic and real-world datasets. Our results would help practitioners choose the best one for analyzing real-world social networks. © 2014 ACM.
