The progressive shrinking of device size in advanced technologies leads to miniaturization and performance improvements. However, ultra-deep sub-micron technologies are more vulnerable to soft errors. Error analysis of a complex system with a sufficiently large sample of vulnerable nodes takes a large amount of time. In this paper we propose RASVAS, a hierarchical statistical method to model, analyze, and estimate the behavior of a system in the presence of Single Event Transients (SETs) modeled at different abstraction levels. Gate level propagation tables are developed to abstract SET propagation conditions and probabilities from gate level models. At RTL, these tables are utilized to model the underlying probabilistic behavior as Markov Decision Process (MDP) models. Experimental results demonstrate that RASVAS is orders of magnitude faster than contemporary techniques and also handle designs as large as 256-bit adders while maintaining accuracy.

Classical compressive sensing typically assumes a single measurement, and theoretical analysis often relies on corresponding concentration-of-measure results. There are many real-world applications involving multiple compressive measurements, from which the underlying signals may be estimated. In this paper, we establish a new concentration-of-measure inequality for a block-diagonal structured random compressive sensing matrix with Rademacher-ensembles. We discuss applications of this newly-derived inequality to two appealing compressive multiple-measurement models: for Gaussian and Poisson systems. In particular, Johnson-Lindenstrauss-type results and a compressed-domain classification result are derived for a Gaussian multiple-measurement model. We also propose, as another contribution, theoretical performance guarantees for signal recovery for multi-measurement Poisson systems, via the inequality.

In this paper, we present a novel approach to computing link-based similarities among objects accurately. We discuss the problems with previous link-based similarity measures and propose a novel approach that does not suffer from these problems. In the proposed approach, each target object is represented by a vector. The elements of the vector denote all the objects in the given data set, and the value of each element indicates the weight of the corresponding object with respect to the target object. As for this weight value, we propose to utilize the probability of reaching from the target object to the specific object, computed using the "Random Walk with Restart" strategy. Then, we define the similarity between two objects as the cosine similarity of the two vectors representing the two objects. We also evaluate the performance of the proposed approach in comparison with existing link-based measures using two kinds of data sets. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach significantly outperform the existing measures. Copyright 2014 ACM.

Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETS) are multi hop wireless networks, where a packet hops through a number of intermediate nodes within coverage range of each other to reach the intended destination. The novel application of MANET routing protocols in the marine environment using available technology is one of the contributions of this work. The high cost of other available technologies which require direct connection to IP networks make our approach an attractive proposition for small craft. In this paper we investigate the effect of different maritime traffic patterns on the performance of three different MANET routing protocols which are Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV), Ad hoc On-Demand Multi Path Distance Vector (AOMDV) and Destination-Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV). The traffic patterns are represented by different node densities and mobility behaviours which are likely to be found in the marine environment. Performance evaluation of the MANET protocols is compared in terms of packet delivery ratio.

Mobile smart devices are now being used by many people as the primary means of listening to music. Based on the observation that a user's preferences for particular music pieces change with the contexts she/he faces, this paper proposes an approach to music recommendation that takes the target context into account by exploiting data gathered from a smart device. In addition, the proposed approach improves recommendations by including newly-added music pieces and newly-faced contexts, avoiding repeated recommendations of the same music piece, and reflecting a user's positive and negative feedback over time. The continuous alteration of living landscape in earth due to the greatest impact of information technology has converted the whole earth into a small digital village. With the availability of information and communication technology like cloud computing, heterogeneous networking, crowd sensing, web services and data mining, anywhere and anytime information sharing is possible, but this will bring out lot of challenges like incompatibility in standards, data portability, data aggregation, data dissemination, differential context and communication overhead. The ICT has changed many aspects of human lifestyle, work places and living spaces. However, there is one sector namely agriculture which has been deprived of the real advantages of ICT. Hence, there exists a digital divide between farming industry and other industries. Farming industry consumes large amount of natural resources such as water, energy and fertilizers that could escalate issues such as global warming, soil degradation and depletion of ground water to the next level. To reduce the global warming effect, farming industry needs to be integrated with relevant technologies. This paper proposes ubiquitous context oriented middleware architecture for precision agriculture (LA-COMPa) to solve major issues such as waste of water, improper application of fertilizer, choice of wrong crops and season, poor yield and lack of marketing.
