Objective measures are favored and widely used by many researchers in evaluating the quality of noise-suppressed speech. A good and reliable objective measure should have property that it could evaluate speech quality in consistent and well correlated with subjective ratings. In this paper, several widely used objective measures are applied to the speech signals with the Chinese languages including Mandarin and Cantonese. The correlations between objective measure outputs and perceptual-subjective ratings are reported and analyzed. The experimental results show that the correlation with the language types of Mandarin and Cantonese are lower than the one with English and objective measures behave differently in Mandarin, Cantonese and English. Detail discussion and conclusion are presented as well.

Target localization and tracking problems in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have received considerable attention recently, driven by the need to achieve high localization accuracy, with the minimum cost possible. A wide range of proposed approaches regarding the localization area have emerged, however most of them suffer from either requiring an extra sensor, high power consumption, inaccessible indoors, or offer high localization error. This paper presents a research and development of a hybrid WSN tracking system using the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and the inertial system. The proposed system is an efficient indoors, where it offers reasonable localization accuracy (0.1 - 0.7) meters, and achieves low power consumption. A number of real experiments have been conducted to test the efficiency of the proposed system using XBee modules. © 2014 IEEE.

Data Distribution Service (DDS) is the Object Management Group's (OMG) new standard middleware after Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), which is becoming increasingly popular. One of the important problems in DDS Based software Systems is the deployment configuration of DDS modules to the physical resources. In general, this can be done in many different ways whereby each deployment alternative will perform differently. Currently, the deployment configuration is decided after the coding phase and usually performed manually. For large configurations, finding the feasible deployment might require serious rework with costly and time consuming iterations. In this paper, we present the tool Deploy-DDS to support the selection and generation of deployment architectures of DDS based systems. The tool can be used to perform an evaluation during the design phase and generate the selected feasible configuration. © 2014 Authors.

In the 2009 Security Protocols Workshop, the Pretty Good Democracy scheme was presented. This scheme has the appeal of allowing voters to cast votes remotely, e.g. via the Internet, and confirm correct receipt in a single session. The scheme provides a degree of endto- end verifiability: receipt of the correct acknowledgement code provides assurance that the vote will be accurately included in the final tally. The scheme does not require any trust in a voter client device. It does however have a number of vulnerabilities: privacy and accuracy depend on vote codes being kept secret. It also suffers the usual coercion style threats common to most remote voting *** this paper we investigate how to counter the above threats by introducing modest cryptographic capabilities, and modest trust assumptions, to the voting client. Of course, we are simply shifting trust, but we are transforming it and, arguably, making the trusted devices more accountable. Which design is deemed more secure will depend on the threat environment. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Context: Number of defects fixed in a given month is used as an input for several project management decisions such as release time, maintenance effort estimation and software quality assessment. Past activity of developers and testers may help us understand the future number of reported defects. Goal: To find a simple and easy to implement solution, predicting defect exposure. Method: We propose a temporal collaboration network model that uses the history of collaboration among developers, testers, and other issue originators to estimate the defect exposure for the next month. Results: Our empirical results show that temporal collaboration model could be used to predict the number of exposed defects in the next month with R2 values of 0.73. We also show that temporality gives a more realistic picture of collaboration network compared to a static one. Conclusions: We believe that our novel approach may be used to better plan for the upcoming releases, helping managers to make evidence based decisions. © 2014 Authors.

Conventional content-based filtering methods recommend documents based on extracted keywords. They calculate the similarity between keywords and user interests and return a list of matching documents. In the long run, this approach often leads to overspecialization and fewer new entries with respect to a user's preferences. Here, we propose a semantic recommender system using Linked Open Data for the user profile and adding semantic annotations to the index. Linked Open Data allows recommendations beyond the content domain and supports the detection of new information. One research area with a strong need for the discovery of new information is biodiversity. Due to their heterogeneity, the exploration of biodiversity data requires interdisciplinary collaboration. Personalization, in particular in recommender systems, can help to link the individual disciplines in biodiversity research and to discover relevant documents and datasets from various sources. We developed a first prototype for our semantic recommender system in this field, where a multitude of existing vocabularies facilitate our approach. The many-core design research community has shown high interest in optical crossbar on chip for more than a decade. Key properties of optical crossbars, namely (1) contention-free data routing, (2) low latency communication, and (3) potential for high bandwidth through the use of wavelength division multiplexing, motivate several implementations of this type of interconnect. These implementations demonstrate very different scalability and power efficiency abilities depending on three key design factors: (1) network topology, (2) considered layout, and (3) insertion losses induced by the fabrication process. In this paper, the worst-case optical losses of crossbar implementations are compared according to the factors mentioned earlier. The comparison results have the potential to help many-core system designer to select the most appropriate crossbar implementation according to, for instance, the number of IP cores and the die size. Coordinating a software project across distances is challenging. Even without geographical and time zone distances, other distances within a project can cause communication gaps. For example, organisational and cognitive distances between product owners and development-near roles such as developers and testers can lead to weak alignment of the software and the business requirements. Applying good software development practices, known to enhance alignment, can alleviate these challenges. We present a theoretical model called the Gap Model of how alignment practices affect different types of distances. This model has been inductively generated from empirical data. We also present an initial version of a theory based on this model that explains, at a general level, how practices affect communication within a project by impacting distances between people, activities and artefacts. The presented results provide a basis for further research and can be used by software organisations to improve on software practice.

In modern energy control centers, the Optimal Power Flow (OPF) routine is used to determine individual generator outputs that minimize the overall cost of generation while meeting transmission, generation, and system level operating constraints. OPF relies on the output of another module, namely the state estimator, which computes all the system variables, principally the voltage magnitudes with phase angles, transmission line flows, and the bus (and total system) loads. However, recent works have shown that the widely used weighted least square based state estimation is vulnerable to stealthy attacks wherein an adversary can alter certain measurements to corrupt the estimator's solution, yet remain undetected by the estimator's bad data detection algorithm. Here, we show that an attack on state estimation can compromise the integrity of OPF and undermine the economic and secure system operation. We present a formal verification based framework to systematically investigate the feasibility of such stealthy attacks and their influence on OPF. The proposed approach is described with an illustrative example. We also develop a mechanism to increase the efficiency of executing our model, which is evaluated by running experiments on different IEEE test cases. © 2014 IEEE.

As the number of mobile applications grows rapidly, personalized recommendation for mobile apps becomes more and more important to mobile App stores. While most of the current works focused on proposing novel recommendation models for mobile apps, the lack of understanding of user download behaviors still remains a problem. Towards this end, we conducted a user behavior study on a large scale real world dataset, focusing on three kinds of biases to user download behaviors, namely, browsing history, app update history, and app categories. The dataset we used in this paper was constructed from Mobile Market (MM), an online mobile app store released by China Mobile, server logs from April 16, 2013 to June 13, 2013, containing 12,125,702 users and 67,577 apps. © 2014 IEEE.
